Hello!I don't know if there's a simple and practical explanation about this, because POF is a mathematical calculation just like midpoints are.
But I'll try my best, I think it would be better to explain this with a bit of history.
***********************************
The Lot of Fortune and all the Arabic Parts is a very, very ancient astrological calculation. (And I really mean it).
It's that ancient, that many of the Institutes of Historical Research are not sure about the origin of this astrological method.
- To resume, here are some basic interpretations in many cultures.
For some Hindu astrologers.
It's a point that tells you about financial gain, wealth and investment.
For some Persian / Hermetic astrologers (maybe Zoroastrian too)
As this mathematical point is involving Sun+Moon but also ASC. This point indicates where the native's nature express all its qualities at best. Because this mathematical calculation is more accurate than the typical Sun/Moon midpoint according to them.
For Babylonian astrologers.
No idea
But it's well known that its usage has been present in that period of time.
In some ancient Egyptian practices
This is an Alchemic point.
A magi point that is related to number 21, a composite number that can be reduced to a 3. Three is a sacred number for ancient Egyptians. Triads of deities were used in Egyptian religion to signify a complete system. Examples include references to the god Atum "when he was one and became three" when he gave birth to Shu and Tefnut, and the triad of Horus, Osiris, and Isis.
