Glad to hear it worked out the way you hoped and prayed it would Regardes!I still don't know what I want to do, i'm almost afraid of makiing my bad periods worse somehow, or the other potential complications and side effects that come along with these things. IP: Logged |

I've had the copper IUD since 2007 and I'm very happy with it.. my only regret is not getting it sooner. Anything hormonal turns me into a crazy woman.. IP: Logged |

RegardesPlatero- I had mine inserted under aesthetic and I didn't have any pain after that except some mild cramps for a few days. IP: Logged |

I just read the sad stories and experiences people here have been through ... just wanted to offer my profound sympathies to RegardesPlatero, Lexx and Ami. You guys are so strong and I wish you all the best from the bottom of my heart. @Reg: I know my IUD is not exactly the same as the one you are going to get but I also have the copper one and my periods are now 2 days longer. I have no cramping, no pain, but I do bleed slightly more and I have to make sure I eat enough in the morning in order to not feel dizzy. But that's about it, I think this is very much worth it. It's also not possible to tamper with any IUD or take it out in your sleep because it's painful to do so, you will certainly feel this! You can also use a condom. If the IUD is freshly installed, the wire might be straight and poke the guy (and perhaps also the condom) but if you have the IUD in for a while, the wire is curled around the cervix and there should be no problem. Doctors prefer to not cut the wire too short for this reason, so the wire can soften and curl up. IP: Logged |

My Copper 7s and Copper T had no wires, only a fine gauge nylon fishing line like string. I had it trimmed short. I had IUDs inserted a couple of times during light period days. In fact the doctors told me they prefer that because it is less likely one is pregnant. I think the only thing I did not like was the string can cause some mild but reversible cervical erosion. Oh and if by some chance the string disappears, see your doctor to make sure the IUD is still seated properly or has not been expelled. In rare cases, heavy periods especially with passing of clots, the IUD can be expelled. Before having intercourse, ALWAYS check to see if you can feel your IUD string. Even if not having intercourse, check for the string especially after each period.IP: Logged |

Never heard of that happening with the Copper non hormonal ones. Though the hormonal ones like the old Progestasert (circa 1976–2001) could cause such. Any hormonal based ones could I think.IP: Logged |

Aww I'm so happy for you that all went well! It's nice to hear that your parents are understanding of what you went through. I really hope that from now on everything will only get better for you and that includes your relationship with your parents as well. IP: Logged |

I get mine in March. They refused ADIANA because of my age. I have to wait until I'm 30. Stupid isn't it? So I told him I'm pretty bloody sure I'm not going to change my mind in the next two years. I'M DONE I'M DONE I'M DONE!!! They treat you like a kid, worse than that.... I'm going to appeal the decision, I still want the adiana. But will get the copper thing until I win the fight which will probably drag out all year............. I am really mad at my Doctor, I Have 3 kids, I"m 28 this year, what's the friggn' problem? I'm very surprised at his narrow-mindedness.

I have to agree. The patronizing tone taken by the medical establishment in general towards women (and men, too, to some extent - I've known some who've wanted a pre-child vasectomy and have been denied) is ridiculous. Doctor: *pats patient's head* No, dear - trust me. I know what's best. They may say that they fear suit, but that shouldn't be a problem with the proper waivers and documentation. IP: Logged |

The "fearing suit" is absolute horsepuckey. Malpractice cases are nearly impossible to prove this day and age. The party has to prove that the doctor/healthcare facility acted with malice and reckless disregard for patient safety, so signing waivers is generally enough to protect them. I personally had to have a LIEP procedure done to remove cancerous cervical cells, and the equiptment they used was faulty, resulting in me being burned INSIDE, and I could do nothing about it, I signed a waiver. "Here, have some percocet for the pain" Um no, I'm nursing, but thanks for charring my lady parts! It's definately more of a control thing if you ask me. A doctor personally pushing their beliefs on you, and you the untrained civilian helpless to their decisions. It's truly unfair. My sister wasn't allowed to get a tubal ligation (tubes tied) after the birth of her 3rd child, and she was also 28. She was like "SERIOUSLY?? You think I want more children??" I'm not sure how they can put age as an indicator of how or when you can be "mature" enough to make this decision. IP: Logged |
