I love it! But I know several people who don't. I finally got two people to tell me why. They said it tastes like lemons to them. If you hate seafood, why?

I don't 'hate' it, but definitely don't like it!

1. Smell (no offense!)
2. Appearance (no offense!)
3. Bioaccumulation principle
4. Potential for deadly allergies

I second what ss9 & C/S729 said.

Plus, I'm allergic (to a few). And I'm glad of it too! lol

quote:
It's no surprise that lobster didn't use to have much of a reputation. It is, literally, a sea insect. The lobster belongs to the same animal group as both the spider and the common bug, which should be your first clue. They were initially thought of as giant hassles that got in the way when fishermen were fishing for, you know, fish. You know in Forrest Gump when they first pulled up their nets and a bunch of junk fell out? The lobsters were the equivalent of that toilet seat.

The lobsters they presumably found crawling around the bottom of the fish bucket were originally what fishermen gave to their indentured servants to eat. People were so averse to eating it that they ground it up and used it as fertilizer, instead. Being seen as someone who had to eat lobster was something you generally didn't tell anyone until at least the third date.

A sea insect, no wonder. I feel so bad for them when I see them crawling on top of each other in tanks, limbs floating around from being stepped on by other lobsters.

I like lemons. I don't remember it tasting like lemons, to me.

I don't like the smell, for one thing. I feel no draw towards it whatsoever. I used to eat Tuna mixed with chopped onion and salad cream, but I haven't eaten that since I was a teenager.

& it shouldnt taste like lemons unless the chef squeezed lemon juice on it first. Usually a lemon wedge is put on the side with white fish or shrimp, etc as it goes well with them.

Some people have taste bud differences, so it tastes sour to them.

I absolutely positively love seafood of all kinds. One thing I haven't tried yet are raw oysters. I know people swear by them but to me they just look like snot. Supposedly they don't taste like it though, so I'll have to try and see.

Yin! Long time no see How've you been?

Same here with the oysters. My ex loved raw oysters but I couldnt get up the courage to try them because of how disgusting they looked. I was afraid i might gag or possibly throw up and didnt want to risk doing that in public.

They probably do taste good since so many people love them.

Hiya, girlies. Hard to stay away from the old haunting grounds. This looks like a nice, safe forum. We'll see how it goes, I guess.

T. I look at your pic and it reminds me of how much I actually like you. Despite... you know.
I just wanted to say I'm sorry if I ever hurt you in any way.

Hey, know you can share those recipes from your country.. the black bun cake? Or something like that.

Did you know that I changed to rice and coconut milk? It isn't so bad at all.

Again in the minority here. I like seafood.
I love certain types of fish like salmon and I cook it the Japanese way (teriyiaki salmon anyone?). I don't really have any food hates. I will try anything once. I'm curious about most food. I don't understand people who only eat like 5 things all their life and are afraid to try something new.
I do eat sushi but not a big fan of copious amount of raw food (of any sort -seafood or not) due to oversensitive digestion. A well-cooked dish doesn't have to be fried or overdone neither does it have to 100% raw to be healthy. My Libra Jup is showing: I hate extremes.

Fried oysters are super yummy. I've only had one raw oyster on a dare. It tasted great. I don't eat them for fear of parasites. I eat nothing raw.

Let me rephrase that--I said I eat nothing raw, but I meant that I eat no meat raw--fruits and veggies are different.

I looooooooooooove shrimp (there are two different stories of me as a young'un eating the tails and all), but am not all that fond of most other seafood.

The reason? The taste. It's...fishy.
I don't know why shrimp taste different than the rest to me. They just do.

Yeah, Saggie tends to put on the "know-it-all" hat. Guilty!
The black butt cake, you mean? LOL.

Yay for coconut milk but what do you mean rice and coconut milk? (Oh, I used to love coconut milk out of a can and then I started using coconut flour and coconut oil as well as fresh coconut water. Now I don't like the taste of canned coconut milk at all. Yuck.)

Oh yeah I meant it the same way in my post above. Fruits and veggies and nuts/seeds are different of course!
