I am only speaking for myself:I am choosing adoption because I believe "Love is touching souls." And when I am ready to be a Mom and meet my new family member, I will say that line and end it with: "And surely you touched mine." I am making the commitment to live and love, and to build healthy relationships that transcends the purely biological function. Just thoughts and my Karma. Aphrodite IP: Logged |

What a lucky child that will be, Aphrodite. I am honored to know you. ------------------ "Never mentally imagine for another that which you would not want to experience for yourself, since the mental image you send out inevitably comes back to you." Rebecca Clark IP: Logged |

Nicole Kidman said the best thing about adoption is that you get to see children who are not like you develop their own inner talents--whether it be music, art, athletics, or anything else. ------------------ "Never mentally imagine for another that which you would not want to experience for yourself, since the mental image you send out inevitably comes back to you." She and Tom Cruise adopted two (or maybe three) young African American children. I was so impressed by what she said that I cut out the article and had it laminated. Maybe I will type it up for the Forum. ------------------ "Never mentally imagine for another that which you would not want to experience for yourself, since the mental image you send out inevitably comes back to you." I have to find it first! I laminated it to keep it, but somehow I misplaced it. ------------------ "Never mentally imagine for another that which you would not want to experience for yourself, since the mental image you send out inevitably comes back to you." Rebecca Clark IP: Logged |

While Randall searches... Here's a poem that has circulated among the adoption community for years. Enjoy! Lunargirl ------ Legacy of an Adopted Child (Author unknown) Once there were two women who never knew each other, One you do not remember, the other you called your Mother. Two different lives shaped to make you one, One became a guiding star, the other became your sun. The first gave you life, And the second taught you to live it. The first gave you a need for love And the second was there to give it. One gave you a nationality, The other gave you a name. One gave you the seed of talent, The other gave you an aim. One gave you your emotions, The other calmed your fears. One saw your first sweet smile, The other dried your tears. One gave you up... It was all that she could do. The other prayed for a child, And God led her straight to you. And now you ask me through your fear The age old questions, unanswered through the years. Heredity or environment...? Which are you a product of...? Neither my darling... neither, Just two different kinds of love.

Aphrodite... I hope you don't mind my asking this, but are you choosing adoption as a result of knowing biological children are not a possibility, or simply wishing to spread good karma and love? I am fully in support of adoption, and actually, after foster parenting for 8 years, my mom has decided that she is going to adopt (she had me in her late thirties, and even though my dad's not in the picture, has always loved being a parent and providing a safe haven for little souls). The transition of foster placements almost tore us up at some moments because the bonds form so deeply, and when the children leave....oh, it's an indescibibly painful feeling. I've always felt that there are so many children without "forever families", and at the same time, so many loving potential "parents", regardless of whether they've had biological children or not, that there shouldn't be as great a shortage of homes as there seems to be. As for me, I plan on having a few children biologically (the Universe willing) and adopting a few more little souls who are in need of permanency and nurturing. I really love kids, and helping them heal. I know this wasn't terribly on topic, but... ------------------ -K "Most people love with restraint As if they were someday to hate We hated gently, carefully As if we were someday to love"-Venus Trines at Midnight IP: Logged |

hi virgo-aries artist,I hope you don't mind my asking this, but are you choosing adoption as a result of knowing biological children are not a possibility, or simply wishing to spread good karma and love? nope, i don't mind at all. the answer is neither i choose to adopt because i choose to adopt. no reasons at all, just a stand i am taking into the future. thank you for sharing your perspective and past experiences with adoption and foster children. i wish you all the best for your future plans in parenthood aphrodite IP: Logged |

Did you happen to catch Angelina Jolie's interview? she has her adopted son Maddox and is planning on adopting a couple more children. When asked if she would have any biological children, she said no, because then there would be one that she should have adopted out there. As controversial as she is, she's avery interesting human being.------------------ "Fear less, hope more; Whine less, breathe more; Talk less, say more; Hate less, love more; And all good things are yours." -Swedish Proverb IP: Logged |
