I read Steve Martin's Cruel Shoes when I was about 6 or 7 years old. I haven't been the same since. It contains some mind-bending short essays and musings, such as Dr. Fitzkee's Lucky Astrology Diet, My Uncle's Metaphysics, or Confessions of Raymond to His Goldfish.

My employers (a husband and wife team) were called Mr. Joe and Mrs. Jo by everyone because that's what their first names were--Joe and Jo. I noticed that everyone that worked there had a form of Joseph as either their first or middle name. I told my boss he should add Get Back to the jukebox to subliminally encourage his customers to Get Back to Jo-Jo's--and he did. It quickly became a joke that having a form of Joseph in your name was a prerequisite to working at Jo-Jo's.

ever has it been, and ever fated shall it be
that all lovers ask themselves

is this an emotional infatuation
a mental attraction--or merely a chemical reaction?

Consider the color red-ruby red or crimson red. It has an amazing influence the sleeping awareness, and creates specific vibrations in the mind, certain natural responses. Unfortunately, those in charge of matters like traffic control lacked any knowledge of metaphysics when they decided to use the color red to mean Stop -- and the color green to mean Go. To the subconscious, red means GO ! GO ! CHARGE ! The color green, conversely, speaks to the subconscious with Hash messages like: Be cool. STOP. Wait. Rest.

The unenlightened ones who set up the Stop and Go traffic signals chose the color red for Stop because they believed it would be interpreted by the drivers as "Danger !" And so it is -- to the conscious mind. But to the subconscious, remember, the message is also, as I just pointed out: GO ! GO ! CHARGE !

I've conducted a fair amount of research on the subject, and I've learned that, for many years after the first Red and Green traffic lights were installed, the offenses of "running a Red Light" were extremely high, and began to lower only very slowly, as drivers gradually reprogrammed their basic, built-in subliminal responses to the colors red and green. Relative to all the "running a Red Light" offenses, most of those who do it usually seem confused, and are unable to explain why they did it.

During busy traffic hours in large cities, there are frequent traffic tie-ups associated with the false message of the green, so-called GO Light. The cars blast their horns in repeated, deafening complaint to the car in the front of the line, while the driver frequently just sits there, in a trancelike state, staring at the Green Light that may be saying "GO" to his conscious mind, but contradicts the message with the response from the subconscious of "Cool it. Stop and rest awhile."

A friendly word of advice: Don't run Red Lights -- ever. However, if you're ever motioned to pull over by an officer of the law who accuses you of running a Red Light, confess immediately and contritely that you did run the light (if you did) -- or tell him courteously and add earnestly that you don't believe you're guilty (if you didn't run the light). It wouldn't be wise to explain to him that you can't be held fully responsible for following your subconscious urgings just because the people who created traffic lights were metaphysically color blind, unless you want a swift ticket and perhaps also a sanity hearing or sobriety test (unless the officer is a Pisces).

Anyways, I forgot to tie-in the link to Paul & Linda McCartney's album, RAM, to the Flashback to the Starship Ra-Ram poem from Linda Goodman's Love Poems. So here it is...

I also forgot to weave in Love Signs' bubbles to Lady Madonna and the Table of Contents in Gooberz, which are both heavy on Pisces symbolism (Gooberz heavy on Pisces errors) and both have Saturday O-missions. Saturday is presided by Capricorn's stern ruling planet, Saturn. Ultimately leading us to the Capricorn-Pisces chapter in Love Signs.

First, though, I have to tell you about a drummer, motorcycle mechanic, well-rounded student of the Universe, and Pisces friend of mine, Rick. In college Rick had a sign on his dorm room door. To his frequent guests who noticed the sign he would proudly proclaim that the words on this bumper sticker-sized, paper sign stuck to his door was a typical Pisces motto. The sign read, "I love school. It's the work I hate."

And so true! But it is a strange magic when it comes to Capricorn and Pisces relationships. So, here I go again busting out my economy size bottle of Mr. Bubbles and getting all Lawrence Welk on everyone. Of course, as you already know from the back of Love Signs that Lawrence Welk is a bona fide bubble-blowing Pisces Sun Sign. You do remember, right?!
