Not the same guy.

Were you wearing those boots when you met him?

I'm guessing this is he...

I wonder if we could contact him, for his recollections...dunno if that's a good idea or not.

Oooh. Good detective work trill. Looks like an interesting man. Can we contact him? Could we? Could we? Please? Please? Fishy? What's the worst he could say?

That's him, alright. And now that I think about it, I was wearing the same boots when I met him. As for contacting him...go for it. I just met him the one time when he was up here looking for islolated settlements. He seemed very nice. I'm not sure what all he can tell you, but he did live in Cripple Creek for a long time. I kind of got the impression that he thought Linda was a bit of a kook, but was to polite to say so to an obvious fan of hers. Let us know if you talk to him, Tink! Oh yeah...some of his poetry is quite touching. I liked it.

Let me think of how to phrase it, and I'll drop him an email. Wouldn't hurt if anyone else wanted to query him either...

...any suggestions on how to phrase initial contact? Shall I include a link to this discussion?

If you'd like, I'll drop him a line. I'm just not sure what anyone wants to know from him. Maybe if he has seen Robert lately? Or perhaps is there anything he would like to share about Linda? If I remember correctly, he didn't know Linda very well...just knew her on sight and met her a few times. He seemed to know more about Robert and about how the people of Cripple Creek viewed their local author/child of the universe.

Fish Kitten, if you're comfortable with contacting him, that might be best, since you've already met.

Personally, I'd enjoy any recollections he has of Linda (good or bad, she was, after all, human ), and any memories of her relationship with Robert Brewer, if he's still in touch, etc.

Any and all tidbits are more than welcome.

Thank you for offering.

I realize that he may not be the best source for info on Linda, but he is still a source.

OK...I'll send him off a note right now. When and if he answers, I'll post it here.

Hi all,
I ordered Robert Brewer's "Captains." I'm holding it right now. It's basically a humor book, explaining the moods of sea captains. The subtitle is "The Crewman's Guide for a Better Understanding of Your Captains's Moods, Methods & Madness."

Published in 1993, ironically by Hampton Roads...

I swear I already posted this, but I can't find it in the thread.... so I'll repeat it and hope it doesn't show up twice.

I bought Brewer's "Captains." It's basically a humor book giving insight into the captain's moods and madness and methods.

published in 1993 by, ironically, Hampton Roads (who published Gooberz).

Interesting. And Hampton Roads was launched by their first book--Gooberz.

Dayton Lummis didn't list an e-mail address, so I sent him off a regular letter. I'll let everyone know when a response comes.

Was there a dedication or any mention of Linda in Captains?

"DEDICATION:
This book is not dedicated to the captains. It is dedicated to the crew members who put up with the captain's moods, methods and madness. This dedication will no doubt irk many captains, which in itself is a typical and predictable reaction of boat captains. I say, let them be irked!

ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
CAPTAINS was first conceived on board the yawl Sifu during the gale in the Gulf of Tehuantepec, Mexico. I would like to thank Captian Thom Robey and Captain Kris Martin for a great voyage I shall never forget.
I would also like to thank my parents for encouraging a life of travel and adventure.

Robert Brewer"

Greetings...

Well.. there should be. As far as I know, Linda was planning to make publication of Captains part of her deal when she was seeking a publisher for Gooberz.

Though that all happened after I left Colorado, I think that was still Linda's intent.

Hi every one
I'm a novice at this so please bear with me.
I always thought it was sad that Linda and Robert didn't stay together.

Fish Kitten.........
I take it you never heard from Mr. Lummis???? *sigh*

I was following this thread with excitement and then it seemed to come to an abrupt hault!

Brewer may never have returned to Linda....but in Gooberz there was a happy ending....and I belived that happy ending - for a long, long time. Was heartsick when I learned he never did really come back....

Luv,
Rainbow
