Soul legend Luther Vandross has died at the age of 54.

The singer had suffered ill health for many years, battling diabetes and hypertension alongside fluctuations in his weight.

Hospital officials didn't give the exact cause of his death, but said he never fully recovered from a stroke he suffered two years ago.

Vandross died peacefully on Friday (1st July) at the JFK Medical Centre in New Jersey.

Hospital spokesman Robert Cavanaugh said: "Luther Vandross suffered a stroke two years ago which he never fully recovered from. Luther was deeply touched by all the thoughts and wishes from his fans."

After a successful career as a session singer throughout the 1970s, Vandross' commercial breakthrough came in 1981 with "Never Too Much". He enjoyed a run of hits throughout the 1980s and 1990s including the duet with Janet Jackson, "The Best Things In Life Are Free".

His last album, "Dance With My Father", was released in 2003

Luther Vandross
Little Miracles (Happen Every Day)

One thing I would love to do
Is talk to someone
Wish I knew who
Sometimes the people who know the least say the most
Makes you wonder who you can trust
What's gonna happen

The first thing I know
God is love
The next thing would be
He loves me
Sometimes I'm tired of waiting for a thing or someone
Then I stop and see what He's done
And I know everything will come

And it maybe today
Anything can change, nothing stays the same
And maybe today
What's tomorrow for
No one knows for sure
Through it all come may
Little miracles happen everyday

And so there you go
Strangely enough
Alone even so
Addicted to love
You're in and out so quickly
That it gives you a start
You're waiting for a message or a word
But you haven't heart from your heart

But it might be today
Anything can change
Nothing stays the same
And maybe today
For the love in me
I really believe
Through it all come what may
Little miracles happen everyday

What is a miracle
Love is a miracle
Every time that you care
Miracles happen somewhere
So many miracles
Even small little miracles
Just take one look about
It's not hard to figure out

Cause it might be today
Anything can change
Nothing stays the same
And maybe today
What's tomorrow for
No one knows for sure
Through it all come what may
Little miracles happen everyday
Little miracles happen everyday

That song makes me blubber and tears just roll down my face.
We were in a store, my hubby and I, and the song's playing, I am affected, as I thumb through the merchandise, biting my lip, misty eyed... he comes over ~ "Do you hear this crap? How cheesy.. I can't believe how stupid this song is."
I just looked at him, with tears in my eyes.
Yes, crappy song indeed, so crappy it makes me cry everytime I hear it.
One of those moments where I roll my eyes and go "check"
'nother difference.

omg, I hadn't heard of his passing, I knew he had suffered a stroke and had never fully recovered. I believe he has a son that sounds just like him....he was from "my era, the 70'S" oh, the memories, he surely will be missed.
May he rest in peace.
