oh that's a great page! thank you Mr. Dragon.

for some reason i have this picture of calm contentedness...and pleasure...in sitting making the sweetest music, strumming a mandolin. my own music, compositions...playing what i hear in my head. it just seems such a beautiful sound.

i will post a picture of my instrument when i find one.

~ naiad ~

there be mandolin in most of these mp3 files ..

( EDIT .. as there was a typo in the links .. )

'nashcats' .. be Mark o'Connor and the New Nashville Cats ..
info at .. ~ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mark_O'Connor ~

'j.d.' .. be Jerry Douglas ( plays the dobro )
info at .. ~ http://www.jerrydouglas.com ~

(Edit: 15/4/07 .. mp3s no longer on server )

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
ps .. wasn't sure if these be the sort of mandolin playing you like .. thought i'd pass them on in anycase ..
recently heard a neat piece of classical music for mandolin .. though i din't catch the name of it ..
given that pic u posted .. thought maybe the bluegrass style might be a bit frantic .. ;-))
in a few days i shall be posting some more from the above artists over in the astro forum at this thread ..
Yeah, I do play mandolin. I'm much better at guitar, but I've played it at gigs where we do bluegrass or country music. Of course I can play the Battle of Evermore on it too.
(If you want to listen to some good mandolin music, go buy one of Nickel Creek's albums. Trust me, that guy is awesome. They have a lot of songs that are mandolin oriented.)
Rod Stewart plays a good mandolin. My favorite song of his is "Mandolin Wind" and he plays beautiful mandolin music in that song.
I love the sound of a mandolin too, naiad. Beautiful music.
Here's the song only in this video Stewart is playing a banjo not a mandolin. Couldn't find any original versions where he played the mandolin in the song.
Great movie. I loved it!
Star, check out the guitarist to the right behind Rod Stewart in this video. What a looker!! LOL
Sorry, naiad. Did not mean to get off the topic of your post. It just reminded me of Rod Stewart and his mandolin.
I have one, but couldn't tell you the proper way to play it. I play violin and the mandolin is keyed the same. I can play basic songs like Mary had a little lamb, and Twinkle, twinkle.
If you've played any other string instrument you shouldn't have too hard a time learning mandolin. Go take a few weeks of lessens to learn the notes and proper way to play if you can afford it. Then look for used books on teaching yourself the mandolin.
Just a suggestion.
thank you aquaspry and Azala.....it might be quite a while before i can learn mandoline...still love it though.
(my focus these days is on starting a home business soon to generate more income for my little brood. i'm thinkin of crafting handmade items with my sewing maching....imbued with herbal and uplifting energies, using natural energy sources, such as flower essences and essential oils. like tarot cloths, hand bags or baby blankets...something of that nature. if you magical musical people have any advice or suggestions to offer i'd be more than pleased to hear of them. thanks. )
What you wrote about "sewing" and "herbal" made me think of sachets..... does anyone buy these anymore?? seems more my mom's generation than this century, but everything old is new again
I was also thinking about some of the websites I've shopped at lately..... I gotten a few tarot card bags and whatnot -- will look up the links..... et voila:
Are you OK naiad?? A lotta blue hearts tonite.....
