I like more atmosphere and mood. I don't count action movies as horror (like Blade, Underworld, Van Helsing, etc), so I'm not considering them. And I normally despise slasher flicks (that's ok if you like 'em, but I can't stand 'em).

So offhand, I'll go with Dracula (1992 version) and Sleepy Hollow (directed by Tim Burton). Oh, and Company of Wolves--that not only had a lot of atmosphere, it was just so full of symbolic meanings that I can watch it over and over again.

Honorable mention to The Phantom of the Opera, but that was more because I so LOVE some of the songs and scenery. Here's an example of what I mean:

Be sure to enlarge it so you don't miss the many details of the props. I think you can see why I don't EXACTLY consider it scary (though it does get scary and tragic later on), and it's this stuff that makes me love it so, more than the overall movie itself.

Pidaua and myself think the movies that have any type supernatural or from the ethers trying to connect to the living world.

Movies like:

White Noise
The Messengers
An American Haunting
There are others but I cant really think of them right now.
