Can anyone make a connection between the reasons for these words to appear in here?

MOON

MOO
OM
NO
ON
MONO
MON
*ONO

I have my own little theories about it but they're not too well thought out.

Also, numerologically, this wonderful word vibrates to the numbers 23 and 5.

moo! maybe that's a reference to the goddess Hathor.

om no moo - buddhists are vegetarians?

no moo on mon - no beef or dairy allowed on Monday?

or maybe om on mon - meditate on monday (or moonday of we want to talk menstruation!)

the moon in tarot is 18 - the number of spiritual-material conflict.

om and mono are both words related to a major world religion.

hmmm... what are your thoughts, Eleanore? (and btw, do you spell your name with the "e" at the end or no? i've noticed others leaving it off...)

Wow, I'm so sorry it's taken me so long to reply to this thread. My sincerest apologies.

Hathor
Lady of heaven

Hathor was the goddess of joy, motherhood, and love. She was considered the protectress of pregnant women and a midwife. She was the patron of all women, no matter their station in life. As the goddess of music and dancing her symbol was the sistrum. As a fertility goddess and a goddess of moisture, Hathor was associated with the inundation of the Nile. In this aspect she was associated with the Dog-star Sothis whose rising above the horizon heralded the annual flooding of the Nile. In the legend of Ra and Hathor she is called the "Eye of Ra."

. . . . .In later times, when the Osiris cults gained popularity, her role changed. She now welcomed the arrival of the deceased to the underworld, dispensing water to the souls of the dead from the branches of a sycamore and offering them food. Hathor was also represented as a cow suckling the soul of the dead, thus giving them sustenance during their mummification, their journey to the judgement hall, and the weighing of their soul. In the Late Period, dead women identified themselves with Hathor, as men identified with Osiris. . . . . .

Very insightful Xelena Ben.

I was originally thinking thinking of Hinduism where the cow is most highly venerated.
http://hinduism.about.com/library/weekly/aa101800a.htm

"... in India, the cow is believed to be a symbol of the earth - because it gives so much yet asks nothing in return."
I felt as though this was yet another parallel between the east-yin, west-yang connection I've wondered so much about, not to mention the Earth-Heart connection. That is to say, the Eastern half of our world is more in tune with the Soul and thus, the Moon (Our Lady) while the West is more in tune with the Mind and thus the Sun (Our Lord) ... funny you bring up Hathor in Light of the Isis/Osiris (and of course the greater Rah-Universal Mind-Father/Ram-SupraConscious Soul-Mother) connection that is thus implied if my mental meanderings actually lead somewhere. The Om to be found in Moon is also representative to me of this Eastern/Goddess/Soul connection. Following this thought, a Mon is a member of a Buddhist people inhabiting an area of eastern Myanmar (Burma) and adjacent parts of Thailand.
Continuing along an Eastern train of thought, where the concept of polytheism is still generally alive and well (though perhaps not in the western fashion), I found the idea of No Mono to be interesting ... not one but many ... and yet still Mono, or singular. I really must give that more thought.
Mon as it refers to Monday is also suggestive as Monday is often associated as the day of the Moon, or Moon day.

I think all of your connections are fantastic and quite applicable. I especially like your "om on mon" connection to meditation on Moon day and also the link to the menstrual cycle ... it truly is a very powerful time and was once considered quite the best time for meditation for women ... though I do wonder why it should have the words Men and Man in it ... hmmm.

Anyway, yes, The Moon in the Tarot and the number 18. I think perhaps that is one of the most interesting connections. The Moon, representing the Goddess (Isis or whatever your favorite guise of hers would be) is, I think, quite accurately depicted by the number of spiritual and material conflict which is, in sum, a re-verse of herS-elf, the number 9. It all ties in so beautifully with the balancing of the Mind and Soul, Man and Woman ... release the material world (9-Mars-War-Material) to enter the realm of the spiritual world (6-Venus-Love-Spiritual).

The only part I can't seem to make heads or tails of is the Ono part, aside from Yoko Ono. Regardless of what many think, I do feel she is John Lennon's other half ... and she has suffered so much from resentment and hatred to her simply because of their relationship as though John was a fool and incapable of making his own decisions and following his heart. If anyone could follow their heart, surely it would be Lennon. Their story, to me, is vaguely reminiscent of star crossed lovers old, not the least of which, in my eyes, would be Jesus and Mary. Oh, the scorn she endured for being his chosen one ... in fact, Ono also has Biblical ties:

"Ono, grief or strength or iniquity of him
a town of Benjamin, in the "plain of Ono" (1 Chr. 8:12; Ezra 2:33); now Kefr
'Ana, 5 miles north of Lydda, and about 30 miles north-west of Jerusalem. Not
succeeding in their attempts to deter Nehemiah from rebuilding the walls of
Jerusalem, Sanballat and Tobiah resorted to strategem, and pretending to wish a
conference with him, they invited him to meet them at Ono. Four times they made
the request, and every time Nehemiah refused to come. Their object was to take
him prisoner."

Now, I don't know much about Nehemiah, but I do feel that his attempt to rebuild Jerusalem is somehow fitting to the idea of Moon culture ... and then there is that connection to the tribe of Benjamin which, if you've read Holy Blood, Holy Grail, you will know that while Jesus was descended from the tribe of David (thus rightful King), Mary was descended from the tribe of Benjamin and thus quite capable of serving as an equal royal and holy ruler.
Anyway, hope none of that was offensive to anyone. Just my scattered ramblings.

Oh, Xelena Ben, I do spell my username with an e at the end, as in Eleanore. Thanks for noticing.

Oh yeah, I forgot ... the number 23 ... isn't it a bit of a "coincidence" that Mrs. Moon would blessed by the Royal Star of the Lion ? As for the 5 ... I wonder if that relates to magic and all things child-like and innocent, not to mention communication of all kinds (including the 3rd house being a channel, in reception, to the 9th house) ... perhaps it relates as well to the Vulcan/Mercury mystery, and certainly the pentagram ... the fifth element, Spirit ...
Ok, I'm off to ponder some more.

Yeah, Om is a great word. I tied it into Moon because of my belief in the Goddess and how the Moon represents her. I mean, to me it makes perfect sense that she was part of the creation of this world maybe as the one (or one with God) who first uttered it. The word being in quiet places and in space makes sense to me because isn't God/dess everywhere all the time? Perhaps Om appearing in Moon is a sublte hint reinforcing the role of Our Mother in Heaven along with Our Father.

I just realized ... Om is also in Mother!

HER OM (is) THE OM. TO ROME, ME (and) HER, TO OM!

(As in, spiritually, there are many roads to Rome. Perhaps we need HER for the trip via our Souls ... not to mention the Vatican's role on all the Goddess secrets that have been suppressed ...)

No, actually, I'd never heard of that. Please elaborate. How is the movement in the shape of Om? Or do you mean that the fetal position resembles an Om symbol? I had never thought of Om as having a shape, only a symbol for the word, is why I'm asking.

Actually, Om is in womb too, also in wisdom. Of course, if we think of the wOmb as a void, the creation process would have to begin with something to lead to life eventually and Om being in that most blessed word sure makes sense to me. Geez, I just got this wonderful image of the void before creation as the sacred womb of the Goddess. Perhaps Om was the first song/sound/tone/note of Love and Light, harmOnized together to create our world and breathe Life into it. Ah, the breath of Life. Spoken words do require exhalations and thus inhalations, after all.

"The Om (or Aum) sign is the main symbol of Hinduism.
Most religions indicate that creation began with sound-- In the beginning was the word...
For the Hindus & Buddhists, Om is the primordial sound, the first breath of creation, the vibration that ensures existence. Om sign signifies God, Creation, & the One-ness of all creation." http://www.lotussculpture.com/my_articles_om.htm

It's intriguing that both Om and Aum equal eleven. Lion Muzzled-Clenched fist ... having to harmOnize two seemingly different concepts/beings and balance them into unity ... after all, 11 does seem to reflect itself ... and there's that 1+1 = 2 ... 2 the number of the Moon.

WisdOm is also an attribute of the Soul, that lovely feminine counterpart to the masculine Mind with its Knowledge, so there it is.

Could an OM out of balance be an OW?

I love words.

i do not have any scientific evidence for this though.but its said that the movement of the child is that way.tha's the reason why many peolple believe that every one is divine.
there people believe it to such an extent that if they by mistake touch ur feet with their own leg or step on u they they touch u and then kiss their hand i order to represent that they have sinned but touching the divine by their feet and apologise.

All your thoughts were very interesting. But think about writing of "Moon" in other languages. English word "Moon" is similar only to Dutch - "Maan" and German - "Mond".In French is "Lune", Italian and Spanish - "Luna"; Bulgarian and Russian - "Lyna", Portuguese - "Lua". So than, some thoughts could drop out.Because I think that interpretation of this word would be correctly only if it is generally and relates to everybody in the world.
Don't you think?!
You could see that all "Moons" have a similar stock and if you calculate their letters (Bugarian, Russian, Dutch, German)you'll get 2!The number of the Moon. But what about the others?
There are so many questions!

I realize that not all lexigrams translate into other languages well. However, according to Linda, lexigrams are only valid in and for the English language. You'd have to read Star Signs for her reasoning behind that.

The Name of the Moon

Why does the Earth's moon not have a name (like Saturn's moons: Titan, Mimas, etc.)?

The Moon was called Selene or Artemis by the Greeks and Luna by the Romans.
I'm sure other cultures also had names for the Moon. But in English,
Moon (from Mona and Moone in Old and Middle English)
was used before anyone had any idea that the other planets had moons.
So it was more a case that the specific name for the Moon was extended to mean
small bodies revolving around planets elsewhere. The Moon's name is the Moon.

Dr. Eric Christian
(June 2002) http://helios.gsfc.nasa.gov/qa_earth.html#genmoon
***********************************
Earth has a second moon, of sorts, and could have many others, according to three
astronomers who did calculations to describe orbital motions at gravitational balance points in space
that temporarily pull asteroids into bizarre orbits near our planet.

The 3-mile-wide (5-km) satellite, which takes 770 years to complete a horseshoe-shaped orbit around Earth,
is called Cruithne and will remain in a suspended state around Earth for at least 5,000 years.

Cruithne, discovered in 1986, and then found in 1997 to have a highly eccentric orbit, cannot be seen by the naked eye,
but scientists working at Queen Mary and Westfield College in London were intrigued enough with its peregrinations
to come up with mathematical models to describe its path http://www.space.com/scienceastronomy/solarsystem/second_moon_991029.html

Wonder how that asteroid like moonlet figures into Astrology.....
