"Life Happened"
Tammy Cochran

From the time she was 13
Julie Thompson had a dream
Someday she would see her name in lights
And after every high school play
The grown-ups all would say
That Julie's future sure is lookin' bright
Well I saw her selling videos at a store in Eastland Mall
I said, "Why arent you in Hollywood taking casting calls?"
She handed me my change and started laughing

And said, "Life happened
Me and Bobby Chapman fell in love
Daddy passed away and the babies came
And drama school was just too much
Now there's Little League and mouths to feed and I direct a Kindergarten
Christmas
pageant
Life happened."

Curtis had an old Chevelle
The cops knew that car well
He never lost a race on Windy Hollow Road
By the time he turned 18
He was a Georgia dirt track king
Proudly sponsored by the local Texaco
I bumped into him at Murphy's bar
And he ordered us a round
I said, "Why aren't you in Rockingham chasing Gordon down?"
He killed his drink and tore the corners off his napkin

And said, "Life happened
I was driving home from Athens late one night
A trucker fell asleep and swapped paint with me."
He said, "I rolled that van at least 5 times
Now I thank my stars
And I sell used cars
And I teach drivers Education at Saint Catherine's
Yeah, Life happened"

I saw the rest of my old friends
At our reunion at the Holiday Inn
And it seemed like it was only yesterday
Standing in the gym in our cap and gown full of wonder, lust, and glory bound
We set out to chase our dreams on wings of passion
But somewhere along the way we got distracted

Life happened
The clothes went out of fashion with our songs
We started families and bought SUV's
Became step-dads
And Soccer moms
I finally realized
We turned out all right
And we spent the night just catching up and dancing,
And Life happened

Money
Pink Floyd

Money, get away
Get a good job with more pay and you're O.K
Money it's a gas
Grab that cash with both hands and make a stash
New car, caviar, four star daydream
Think I'll buy me a football team

Money get back
I'm alright Jack keep your hands off my stack
Money it's a hit
Don't give me that do goody good ********
I'm in the hi-fidelity first class travelling set
And I think I need a Lear jet

Money it's a crime
Share it fairly, but don't take a slice of my pie
Money so they say
Is the root of all evil today
But if you ask for a rise it's no surprise that they're giving none away

My favourite line from a song is "Under the cities, lies a heart made of ground but the Humans will give no love". This is from one of my favourite songs by one of my favourite bands. Any one care to take a guess?

Grey, that would be from "Horse With No Name", by America (one of my favourite groups). I saw them a few years ago in concert; very casual setting, almost publike atmosphere, everyone sitting at tables drinking while they played. Highly underrated group.

Here's a couple of my favourite song lyrics:

Against All Odds
by Phil Collins
How Can I Just Let You Walk Away, Just Let You Leave Without a Trace
When I'm Standing Taking Every Breath, With You
When You're The Only One Who Really Knew Me At All

How Can You Just Walk Away From Me, When All I Can Do Is Watch You
Leaving'
Cause We Shared The Laugher And The Pain, And Even Shared The Tears
You're The Only One Who Really Knew Me At All

So Take a Look At Me Now, There's Just An Empty Space
There's Nothing Left Here To Remind, Just The Memory Of Your Face,
So Take a Look At Me Now, There's Just An Empty Space
If You're Coming Back To Me It's Against All Odds
And That's What I've Got To Face

I Wish I Could Just Make You Turn Round
Turn Round And See Me Crying
There's so Much I Need To Say To You
So Many Reasons Why
You're The Only One Who Really Knew Me At All

So Take a Look At Me Now, There's Just An Empty Space
There's Nothing Left Here To Remind, Just The Memory Of Your Face,
So Take a Look At Me Now, There's Just An Empty Space
But To Wait For You It's All I Can Do
When That's What I've Got To Face

Take Just a Look At Me Now
Hours To Be Standing Here
And You're Coming Back To Me It's Against All Odds
It's The Chance I've Got To Face
Take a Look At Me Now

What a Wonderful World
by Louis Armstrong

I see trees of green, red roses too
I see them bloom for me and you
And I think to myself what a wonderful world.

I see skies of blue and clouds of white
The bright blessed day, the dark sacred night
And I think to myself what a wonderful world.

The colors of the rainbow so pretty in the sky
Are also on the faces of people going by

I see friends shaking hands saying how do you do
They're really saying I love you.

I hear babies cry, I watch them grow
They'll learn much more than I'll never know
And I think to myself what a wonderful world
Yes I think to myself what a wonderful world.

well, I like songs in japanese...here it's one...

Seki-ray

Kaze no koe wo kiita
Yume no tsuzuki wo shiritakute
Daremo oshiete wa kurenai
Mune ga akaku somatta...

I heard the voice of the wind
Wanting to know the rest of the dream
No one would tell me
My breast is dyed red...

Kimi dake ni wa wakatte ite hoshii
Kaeranakereba ikenai koto wo...

I want you at least to understand
That I must go back...

Kono doko mademo tsuzuku shiroi daichi wa tooku
Mou harisakebu koe wa dare ni mo todokanai

This far away land where the whiteness stretches out forever
I shout and my voice doesn't reach anyone

Kono karada no itami wo kakusu you ni
Sora kara no yasashisa ni dakare...

As if to hide this body's pain
Embraced by the tenderness from the sky...

Sono hitomi ni utsuru tsuki ga kirei de
Tatoe yoru ga owaranakutemo

The moon reflected in those eyes is beautiful
Even if the night never ends

This far away land where the whiteness stretches out forever
I shout and my voice doesn't reach anyone
This deep land where the whiteness stretches out forever
I fall again, no one can heal me

Sono chiisana karada wo tsutsumu you ni
Seikrei no yasashisa ni dakare...

As if to enfold that small body
Embraced by the tenderness of the wagtail...

Sora kara no yasashisa to tomo ni nemutte
Daichi no nukumori ni dakare...

...mhhh... a little sad song...

I love this song...the words are so powerful.
**********************
"I Need You"
LeAnn Rimes

I don't need a lot of things,
I can get by with nothing
Of all the blessings life can bring,
I've always needed something
But I've got all I want
When it comes to loving you
You're my only reason,
You're my only truth

I need you like water
Like breath, like rain
I need you like mercy
From heaven's gate
There's a freedom in your arms
That carries me through
I need you

You're the hope that moves me
To courage again
You're the love that rescues me
When the cold winds rage
And it's so amazing
'Cause that's just how you are
And I can't turn back now
'Cause you've brought me too far

Come Away with me
Nora Jones

Guess who this reminds me of...yep...the Cappy...

Come away with me in the night
Come away with me and I will write you a song

Come away with me on a bus
Come away with me where they can't tempt us with their lies

I want to walk with you on a cloudy day
In fields where the yellow grass grows knee-high
So won't you try to come

Come away with me and we'll kiss
On a mountaintop
Come away with me
And I'll never stop loving you

And I want to wake up with the rain
Falling on a tin roof
while I'm safe there in your arms
So all I ask is for you
To Come away with me in the night
Come Away with me

here's another by Nora Jones...I see myself in this song.

Spinning, laughing, dancing to her favorite song.
A little girl with nothing wrong is all alone

Eyes wide open always hoping for the sun and she'll sing her song to anyone that comes along

Fragile as a leaf in Autumn just fallin' to the ground without a sound

Crooked little smile on her face tells a tale of grace that's all her own

Spinning, laughing, dancing to her favorite song a little girl woth nothing wrong is all alone.

On the first part of the journey
I was looking at all the life
There were plants and birds and rocks and things
There was sand and hills and rings
The first thing I met was a fly with a buzz
And the sky with no clouds
The heat was hot and the ground was dry
But the air was full of sound

I've been through the desert on a horse with no name
It felt good to be out of the rain
In the desert you can remember your name
'Cause there ain't no one for to give you no pain
La, la ...

After two days in the desert sun
My skin began to turn red
After three days in the desert fun
I was looking at a river bed
And the story it told of a river that flowed
Made me sad to think it was dead

You see I've been through the desert on a horse with no name
It felt good to be out of the rain
In the desert you can remember your name
'Cause there ain't no one for to give you no pain
La, la ...

After nine days I let the horse run free
'Cause the desert had turned to sea
There were plants and birds and rocks and things
there was sand and hills and rings
The ocean is a desert with it's life underground
And a perfect disguise above
Under the cities lies a heart made of ground
But the humans will give no love

You see I've been through the desert on a horse with no name
It felt good to be out of the rain
In the desert you can remember your name
'Cause there ain't no one for to give you no pain
La, la ...

If You Could Read My Mind by: Gordon Lightfoot

If you could read my mind love
What a tale my thoughts could tell
Just like an old time movie
'Bout a ghost from a wishin' well
In a castle dark or a fortress strong
With chains upon my feet
You know that ghost is me
And I will never be set free
As long as I'm a ghost that you can't see
If I could read your mind love
What a tale your thoughts could tell
Just like a paperback novel
The kind that drugstores sell
When you reach the part where the heartaches come
The hero would be me
But heroes often fail
And you won't read that book again
Because the ending's just too hard to take

I'd walk away like a movie star
Who gets burned in a three way script
Enter number two
A movie queen to play the scene
Of bringing all the good things out in me
But for now love, let's be real
I never thought I could feel this way
And I've got to say that I just don't get it
I don't know where we went wrong
But the feelin's gone
And I just can't get it back

If you could read my mind love
What a tale my thoughts could tell
Just like an old time movie
'Bout a ghost from a wishin' well
In a castle dark or a fortress strong
With chains upon my feet
But stories always end
And if you read between the lines
You'll know that I'm just tryin' to understand
The feelin's that you lack
I never thought I could feel this way
And I've got to say that I just to get it
I don't know where we went wrong
But the feelin's gone
And I just can't get it back

Song For A Winter's Night by Gordon Lightfoot

The lamp is burnin' low upon my table top
The snow is softly fallin'
The air is still within the silence of my room
I hear your voice softly callin'
If I could only have you near
To breathe a sigh or two
I would be happy just to hold the hands I love
Upon this winter night with you

The smoke is rising in the shadows overhead
My glass is almost empty
I read again between the lines upon the page
The words of love you sent me

If I could know within my heart
That you were lonely too
I would be happy just to hold the hands I love
Upon this winter night with you

The fire is dying now, my lamp is growing dim
The shades of night are liftin'
The mornin' light steals across my windowpane
Where webs of snow are driftin'

If I could only have you near
To breathe a sigh or two
I would be happy just to hold the hands I love
And to be once again with with you
To be once again with with you

I forget who its by(guess,someone ) but:

Love Song
The words I have to say,
May well be simple but they're true....
Until you give your love,
There's nothing more that we can do....
Love is the opening door
Love is what we came here for
No-one could offer you more Do you know what I mean...?
Have your eyes really seen?

They say its very hard
To leave behind a life we knew...
But there's no other way
And now it's really up to you...
Love is the key we must turn
Truth is the flame we must burn
Freedom the lesson we must learn
Do you know what I mean....?
Have your eyes really seen?

by House Brew:
Catch me if you can,I'm out of line...
You can chain my hands, but not my mind...
You offer me my freedom(!)if I stay in line;
Fools,you cannot give me
What's al-rea-dy mine!

And then my themesong,by Dolores Keane(I'm fogetting the lyrics just a lttle,so I'll just invent what's missing )

You'll never be the sun
Turning in the sky
You'll never be the moon above us
On the moon-lit night
You'll never be the stars in heaven
Although they burn so bright
But even on the darkest ocean
You'll always be the light.......

You may not always shine as you go
Therefor,look a-stern
You might be so long together
Or you might walk alone
And you won't find that love comes easy
With another walking bright
But even on the darkest ocean,
You'll always be the light.

And if you lose a part inside
When love turns round on you,
Leaving the past behind
Is proving you,too
As you always do
Holding you back
Keeping you true

You'll never be the sun
Turning in the sky
And you won't be the moon above us
On the moon-lit night
And you won't be the stars in heaven,
Although they burn so bright
But even on the darkest ocean
You'll always be the light....
You'll always be the lifgt.........

"It's Not Easy Bein' Green"

It's not that easy bein' green;
Having to spend each day the color of the leaves.
When I think it could be nicer being red, or
yellow or gold-
or something much more colorful like that.

It's not easy bein' green.
It seems you blend in with so many other
ordinary things.
And people tend to pass you over 'cause you're
not standing out like flashy sparkles in the water-
or stars in the sky.

But green's the color of Spring.
And green can be cool and friendly-like.
And green can be big like an ocean, or important
like a mountain, or tall like a tree.

When green is all there is to be
It could make you wonder why, but why wonder why?
Wonder, I am green and it'll do fine,
it's beautiful!
And I think it's what I want to be.

When I first heard this song, I didn't really know if I liked it or not. But now I just love it because I know everyone has felt like this at some point in their life, maybe several times.

"Walking Away"
Craig David

I'm walking away, from the troubles in my life
I'm walking away, oh to find a better day
I'm walking away.

Sometimes some people get me wrong, when it's something I've said or done
Sometimes you feel there is no fun, that's why you turn and run
But now I truly realise that some people don't want to compromise
Well I saw them with my own eyes spreading those lies and
Well I don't want to live my life, too many sleepless nights
Not mentioning the fights, I'm sorry to say lady

Chorus

Well I'm so tired baby
Things you say, you're driving me away
Whispers in the powder room baby, don't listen to the games they play
Girl I thought you'd realise, I'm not like them other guys
Cos I saw them with my own eyes, you should have been more wise,
And I don't wanna live my life, too many sleepless nights
Not mentioning the fights, I'm sorry to say lady

Chorus

------------------
Its easy to get a reputation for wisdom. Its only necessary to live long, speak little and do less.

Lyrics by Tool on Aenema

...Today a man on acid realised that all matter is purely energy condensed to a slow vibration...
...That we are all of one consciousness experiencing itself subjectively...
...There is no such thing as death, life is only a dream, we are the imagination of ourselves...

...Here's Tom with the Weather!!

How cool

The Sacrifice of Victor
Lyrics and Music by Prince
Copyright 1992

What is sacrifice?
N.P.G. in mass attack
Church if you will, please turn to the book of Victor
We like to start at the top, if you don't mind.

I was born on a blood-stained table
With a cord wrapped around my neck
Epileptic 'till the age of seven (true)
I was sure heaven marked the day

Chorus:
I know joy lives 'round the corner
One day I'll visit her, I'm gonna
When she tells me everything
That's when the angels sing
That's when the victory is sho'nuff

Mama held up her baby for protection
From a man with a strap in his hand
Ask the Victor 'bout pain and rejection
You think he don't when he do understand

Chorus:
I know joy lives 'round the corner
One day I'll visit her, I'm gonna
When she tells me everything
That's when the angels sing
That's when the victory is sho'nuff.

1967 in a bus marked public schools
Rode me and a group of unsuspecting political tools
Our parents wondered what is was like to have another color near
So they put their babies together to eliminate the fear
We sacrifice- yes, we did
Fighting one another
All because of colour
The angel of hate-she taught me how to kick her
If she called me anything but Victor ( like n**g*r)
If the only thing that tells is father time
Then sacrifice is a mother sublime-we love it

Never understood my old friends laughing
They got high when everything else got wrong
Dr. King was killed and the streets
They stopped burning-
When the smoke was cleared, their high was gone
Education got important, so important to Victor
A little more important than ripple and weed
Bernadette the lady- she told me,
"Whatever you do, son, a little discipline is what you need."

Chorus:

I know joy lives round the corner
One day I'll visit her, I'm gonna
When she tells me everything
That's when the angels sing
That's when the victory is sho'nuff

Sometimes, you've got to leave the ones you love
Somebody, anybody, everybody wave your hands for sacrifice
My feet might get tired but I'm gonna keep on
Walkin' down this road
And when I reach my destination
That's when I'll know
That's when my name will be Victor.
Amen.

From Celine Dion:

"Prayer"

Can we touch the soul of heaven
Can we unite a sacred lesson
Every child creates a skylight of beauty
Can you hear cathedrals falling
All the universe is calling
Cry a single cello from your heart
Since the world has lost her way
Loneliness journey endlessly
Yet the promised chance remains
Gifts of what could be
So let the children remember the sun
Let them dance let them soar
For their lives have begun
Let the children engender the rain
As the river runs through fields
Forever subsiding their pain
Prayer
Every voice along the shoreline
Standing still within time
Spinning unresolved the walking
As each season passes
Through wonderland and looking glasses
The secret garden shires beckon's you
Gentle flower, don't fade away
Sweet innocence they're harvesting
In the faith of golden dreams
Where one love lives eternally
Let the children remember the sun
Let them dance let them soar
For their lives have begun
Let the children engender the rain
As the river runs through fields
Forever subsiding their pain
Prayer
Prayer
Prayer
Let the children bring the light
They are the truth of spirit in flight
Yes the children engender the rain
As the river runs through life
Healing their pain
You can trust with your heart but for time
Sweet angels, conceive you have
Forever and always believed Prayer
Prayer
Prayer
Prayer

I just got the new David Gray CD (a new day at midnight), and I've fallen in love with "Real love", which I have dubbed "the Pisces Song" (because I'm on a big sun-sign empowerment kick):

The dawn in all its majesty
Is stealing me away
The dawn in all its honesty
Is turning me to clay
And through the bars of iron rain
Way beyond and back again
I hear the voice of Eden cry
Lift me up I'm walking on high

It's real love
Real love

This world in all its clarity
Is glorious, is fake
This world in all its vanity
Is more than I can take
And down the road the iron wheels
Chain my heart to how it feels
I hear the voice of Eden cry
Lift me up I'm walking on high

It's real love
Real love
Real love
Real love

And something in the heart of me
Is telling me it's time
To meet the eye of destiny
And leave it all behind
And through my bones an iron rage
paints my soul upon the page

I hear the voice of Eden cry
Lift me up to walk on high
Makes me wanna lay down and die

It's real love
Real love
Real love
Real love

The dawn in all its majesty
Is stealing me away

This song is by the Smashing Pumpkins...it's called Mayonaise (don't know why) but I could always identify with the lyrics:

Fool enough to almost be it
Cool enough to not quite see it
Doomed
Pick your pockets full of sorrow
And run away with me tomorrow
June

We'll try and ease the pain
But somehow we'll feel the same
Well, no one knows
Where our secrets go

I send a heart to all my dearies
When your life is so, so dreary
Dream
I'm rumored to the straight and narrow
While the harlots of my perils
Scream

And I fail
But when I can, I will
Try to understand
That when I can, I will

Mother weep the years I'm missing
All our time can't be given
Back
Shut my mouth and strike the demons
That cursed you and your reasons
Out of hand and out of season
Out of love and out of feeling
So bad

When I can, I will
Words defy the plan
When I can, I will

Fool enough to almost be it
And cool enough to not quite see it
And old enough to always feel this
Always old, I'll always feel this

No more promise no more sorrow
No longer will I follow
Can anybody hear me
I just want to be me
When I can, I will
Try to understand
That when I can, I will

I love the song "Against All Odds"...

He Didn' Have To Be...Brad Paisly

When a single mom goes out on a date
With somebody new
It always wids up feeling more like a job interview
My momma used to wonder if she'd ever meet someone
Whou wouldn't find out about me
And then turn around and run

I met the man I call my dad when I was five years old
He took my mom out to a movie
And for once I got to go
A few months later I remember lying there in bed
I overheard him pop the question and
Prayed that she'd say yes

<Chorus>:
And then all of a sudden
Oh, it seemed so strange to me
How we went from something's missing to a family
Lookin' back all I can say
About all the things he did for me
Is I hope I'm at least half the dad
That he didn't have to be

I met the girl that's now my wife about three years ago
We had the perfect marriage
Be we wanted something more
Now here I stand surrounded by our family and friends
Crowded 'round the nursery window
As they bring the baby in

<Chorus>
<Chours again but from 4th line>

Yeah...Is I hope I'm at least half the dad
That he didn't have to be
Because he didn't have to be
You know he didn't have to be

I'd have to say my favorite song right now is "Have Love Will Travel" by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers:

You never had a chance did you baby?
So good lookin', so insecure.
And now you say you can't remember
When the lines you drew began to blur.

And when all of this is over
Should I lose you in the smoke
I want you to know you were the one.
And may my love travel with you everywhere
Baby may my love travel with you always.

Maggie's still tryin' to rope a tornado.
Joe's in the backyard tryin' to keep things
simple
And the lonely DJ's diggin' a ditch
Tryin' to keep the flames from the temple.

Oh and if perhaps I lose you
In the smoke down the road
I want you to know you were the one.
And may my love travel with you everywhere.
Yeah may my love travel with you always.

How bout a cheer for all those bad girls
And all the boys that play that rock and roll
They love it like you love Jesus
It does the same thing to their souls.

Yeah when all of this is over
Should I lose you in the smoke
I want you to know you were the one

And may my love travel with you everywhere
Yeah may my love travel with you always
Baby may my love travel with you everywhere
Yeah may my love travel with you always.

Then there's also a good song called "As The World Falls Down" by David Bowie from the movie "Labyrinth"...

There's such a sad love, deep in your eyes
A kind of pale jewel
Open and closed within your eyes
I'll place the sky within your eyes.

There's such a fooled heart, beating so fast
In search of new dreams
A love that will last within your heart
I'll place the moon within your heart.

As the pain sweeps through, makes no sense
for you
Every thrill is gone, wasn't too much fun
at all.
But I'll be there for you
As the world falls down.
(Falling) Falling in love.

I'll paint you mornings of gold
Spin you Valentine evenings though we're
strangers till now
We're choosing the path between the stars
I'll leave my love between the stars.

As the pain sweeps through, makes no sense
for you.
Every thrill is gone, wasn't too much fun
at all.
But I'll be there for you.
As the world falls down. (Falling)
(Falling) Falling in love...

Falling in love....

Falling in love....

Good songs, both of them. I'm a hopeless romantic anyway.

Do you understand the words that are comin' outta my mouth?

Labyrinth is one of my favorite movies. A must-see for all children--and for the child in all of us.
