This is perhaps one of the best relationships known to Chinese astrologers, be it simply an affair or more seriously a marriage. The partners complement each other marvelously. There is little ground for antagonism although there exist quite a number of differences between them which, however, can be surmounted with a minimum of effort.

The Ox woman, with her heels well dug in, so to speak, will give the Rat a reassuring feeling of security which he badly needs. She will have an easy answer to every problem, thus allaying his tendency to fret about everything. On the other hand, the Rat man can bring her refinement, flexibility and openmindedness. Financial difficulties are not expected to come and plague them since both are good with money and keen on saving.

The Snake man will not resist the temptation to exclude the Rat woman from a part of his life and indulge in some not so secret love affairs. Lazy and misogynous when the fancy takes him, he will refuse to help around the home or take care of the children, preferring to spend much of his time dreaming or theorizing. But it is his sloth regarding his career that will grate on the nerves of this woman who is always anxious for her material future. She will have to take their financial situation in her own hands lest his irresponsibility should bring them ruin. But to criticize the Rabbit woman is to guarantee trouble, for she is highly sensitive - especially as regards her home-economic virtues - and has a strong critical side to her character herself. His unobliging remarks will be the underlying cause for many of their arguments which, in turn, will induce these two to pout for days each time. Since both of them are by nature not very communicative, they may finally allow silence to descend between them - a fateful step they should never take.

There exist many other subjects of mutual irritation- - for instance, the Rooster's dogmatism, superficiality, bragging, and stifling possessiveness; and the Rabbit's pedantry, self-righteousness, and mawkishness. But if the protagonists are to save and nourish the love they felt when they first met, then they will imperatively have to find a basis for understanding each other. There will be no dodging the necessity for each to accept the other as he actually is.

If some success is to be reached, it will largely depend on the partners' ability and willingness to conquer their mutual annoyance. The greatest obstacles to their concord will be the Rabbit man's overcritical eye - the Rooster could accept anything but having her weaknesses paraded before her and others - and her superficiality which profoundly offends this perfectionistic man. He likes tranquility, silence, and home life as much as she loves gossiping and living at a hectic, disorderly pace. His misogynistic stand cannot fail in the long run to cause a rift in their relationship.

Although their common life has a tendency to blow hot and cold, they can improve it owing to some important positive elements in their favor. Both partners are realistic and hardworking.
