Btw I started to draw by learning with Sailormoon lol~~ ^_^; if anyone is interested, come take a look at my DA site or my drawings :P http://comica23.deviantart.com/

Nice drawings, Comica! (and you look pretty btw, nice to see you!)

Yeah, I remember the days when me and sister used to draw alot of Sailor Moon Characters...we'd spend hours during the weekend doing so. And yes, we also pretended to be Sailor Scouts with some of our friends. (I had to be Jupiter, I think my sis liked Mars, and so on...) It was cool, because one of the girls even had a black cat too (remember luna?).

Sailor Moon is definitely the best Anime show ever! (I know my bf would strongly disagree..LOL)

You so disappoint me... *shakes head.*

LOL i was like 12. And shes a Libra but my fav character was always Prince Diamond anyways. He was sexy and brooding and a hopeless romantic. I say he was a Pisces prolly...eh....or a Gemini.

quote:
I know romance is good... but that show just destroys the whole concept of it.

Thats cuz Tuxedo Mask is a self righteous b*stard! If anyoen ever saw the episode where Sailor Venus schedules a date with 2 bandits and doesnt realise its at the same time, and instead of cancelling runs back and forth....my 12 year old self was like "more of that kinda spirit" lol.

LOL i love Russel Peters...Hes much beloved in my circle and I love that clip. LOL Hinjews...hehe!

OOh i so saw the Luna turns human one....sooo touching!!! Btw anyone ever into Card Captors or Digimon? I actually used to live off Digimon more than any other show. Sailor Moon close second.

Thanks Comica!

I liked Sailor Venus when she first started coming around but when the episodes with Sailor Saturn came around, I couldn't stand her. Like I felt she was tough on Serena just because Rei (Mars) was and not because she had a legitimate problem with her. They were so right to call her out on it too..LOL. And they made her wicked vain/concieted by then too (the dark side of Venus I suppose). Plus she was total bimbo/airhead around the guys. Ugghhh, I couldn't stand her.

I like the Moonlight Knight better than Tuxedo Mask for some reason but I never really minded the Tuxedo Mask. To tell you the truth, I didn't really mind the romance on that show, looking back on it. I wished they had developed Lita (Jupiter) and Ken's story. Jupiter will always be my fav Sailor Scout though, she just kept it real and could kick @ss like a true Sag.

I did like Sailor Moon at times but again, I was sooooo annoyed with the way they portrayed 95 % of the time. I mean, yeah were sensitive but that doesn't mean we're always whiney, wearing our emotions on our sleeves, can't stand up for ourselves, and have little backbone. Maybe it was just my mars in aries but I thought it was so dumb.

Babe... I can't question your beautious plans for us all since I am born under your sign but did you really have to create the attrocity that is Sailor Venus? Lol! Sorry BUD , but even I can't even imagine what a 12 yr. old sees in a cartoon with a bunch of girls running around in Schoolgirl uniforms, fighting evil and a guy who uses roses as weapons; But that's just me .

Probably alot, as it was a reaaally popular show when I was a youngin'. Anyways, it was more than just girls running around in school uniforms. It was GIRL POWER baby! And they're super powers were pretty awesome too! Especially when they tied in Buddhism/Shintoism with Sailor Mar's powers.....very rad!

But of course, I was feelin' Sailor Moon's "Moon Magic" being a child of the Moon myself. Because Moon Magic is the best magic there is.

2nd best would be Sailor Jupiter's thunder and lightning powers, although I thought Uranus ruled lightning? Oh well.

Hell, I'd still watch this show today if I could.

Was it brilliantly marketed? Yes... There is no doubt about that. But then again no one can argue that Dragon Ball Z followed a similar concept to attract the younger male demographic. However does that make them great shows? Hardly. Too much emphisis on cheap maketing gimicks (which little girl doesn't wanna imagine being a princess.)

Girl Power?!?! LMAO!!!! Seriouly Dulce... Comeon... That show is as much about girl power as Hallmark is about the true meaning of Valentine's day . You want girl power? Watch Tomb Raider, Mr. and Mrs. Smith, Ultraviolet... Heck even Resident Evil; Not Sailor Moon .

Well everyone's entitled to their own opinion....I still think it was a hella good show.

Actually I would prefer Xena over any of those movies any day but getting back to the topic; I know very little about the latter 2 movies but the only difference between the GIRLPOWER of TombRaider/Mr. and Mrs. Smith and Sailor Moon is the way they're marketed (ie. the age group they try to attract). Other than that its basically the same concept of GIRL POWER regardless of what the storyline/plot is.

As I said, brilliant marketing but nothing much in terms of script work or evolving story; Just a weak concept meshed up togather with a lot of marketing gimmicks. Then again... which kid cartoons aren't these days.

Oh and if you want to see Ultraviolet, I found the entire movie and posted up the links to it on the FFA forum section .

LMaaaaoooo u know Aphy is my ever favorite goddess for all eternity rightttt?!

Part of my reasons of being a classics minor. LOL

In my defense the guy who sees roses as weapons needs to be shot. Repeatedly! With said roses...at speeds surpassing sound...

Dragon Ball Z was eh! Lets discuss Digimon! I swear my undying 10 year old loyalty to that show and defend it to the death in the knightly ways!

Yay for Tomb Raider, Yay for Mr. and Mrs. Smith, yeew for Ultraviolet (props for the sexxxxyyy song 24 hours)

I second Dulce for Xena! Xena was great! BUT it hideously distorted Greek mythology and made my precious APhrodite look like a robe wearing dumb blonde sl"t which is oooh so far from the truth. But in its defense id say thats prolly the only way half the population of this hugely uneducated country got aquinted with the classics anyways...so its something

Errr, I still think the portrayal of the gods on Xena were very realistic (with a touch of comedy thrown in)....especially Aphrodite. Any different portrayal of her would've been over-romanticized in my eyes. Anyways, the thing that one must ALWAYS remember about the Greek gods is while they were "all powerful", they also had very human qualities...both good and bad.

I didn't mind Dragon Ball Z either, come to think of it. But I still don't see the weakness in the storylines/plot for Sailor Moon, I actually think it was pretty straightfoward.

Aphrodite's character was portrayed way too inaccurately in Xena Dulce; Not to mention that Alexandra Tydings doesn't really emit the charisma and Aura of a Libra . IMO Bridgette Wilson would have been a better choice.

Aphy was far from a dim-witted man-mongerer as most people have come to relate her as. She was the original Femme Fatale; Using her oh so deadly suddle charm and charisma to her advatage. She was also quite the venemous being Lol! Just read the myth on Cupid and Psyche's love.

The Greek city of Corith which worshipped her as their principal was probably the most Wealthiest in terms of commerce (lacked military might however.) The ironic part about the pristesses that tended Aphy's temple was the fact that they also had to passionaltey explore the art of love making; Hence they were FAR from chaste .

Hmmm, lets see....

Aphrodite frequently cheated on her husband Hephaestus with Ares, Adonis, and many many more. She also incited the Trojan War, and not to mention that many myths actually portrayed her as vain, jealous, selfish, etc. If Xena's portayal of her wasn't even close to accurate, then I don't know what is.....

Amen to that! LOL finally someone who GEEEETSSS IT! lol i had arguments about this since i was 8....actually thats how i met my first bf (not the one im with now). He called Aphy a ho and i threw a pen at his head...and missed....and hit this poor innocent chick....lol

Don't remind me...i totally defended her on that...and now Karma has bit me in the butt...so much for poor Psyche *cries* i take it back i take it all back!!!

Her temple in Paphos, Cyprus is renown and I dreeeam of going there one day!

Actually the priestesses of APhrodite engaged in sacred prostitution which was actually very high status in many ancient societies. They were the first courtesans, educated and refined. They knew not only the art of love making, but the art of speaking, walking and well known in the arts. Ideal Libras so to say. Plus there is a pool near Aphrodite's temple that is said to renew virginity. So they werent sooo unchaste

True but in the spirit of Greek sexism, no one insults Zeus, Ares, Poseidon for it...not to mention Hephaestus himself tried to force himself on Athena of all people. Oh yea and Appollo was no angel either and shall we mention Hermes? He was a Gemini male after all wasn't he...

Yes but Xena portrayed her as stupid and she was never such...cuz u gotta have some brain to be able to cause a war large enough that the God of War and the God of Underworld would be proud. Not to mention she wasnt voted the most beautiful goddess by Paris because she really was...she was voted cuz she bargained better

Jeez, that was EXACTLY what I was getting at in the first place! None of these gods were perfect in personality and temperament, they all displayed the good and darkside of the human condition....Aphrodite included.

Stupid? Maybe not. Selfish, vain, and a little slutty? Hell yes she was! She was not the angel you all want to portray her as. And she wasn't even the goddess of romantic love either, just the kind based on lust and shallow things like looks.
That being said, I still think Xena's portrayal of Aphrodite was a realistic one.

Oh I did not comment on if the acts they commited were sacred or not; Far from it when you consider how high their status was (as you said.) They never engaged in sexual unions with the.... lesser citizens Lol! Usually with Royalty.

However, they weren't chaste . I am not gonna deny that.

Dulce:

We aren't arguing if she was perfect or not; Just that her character was way too inaccurately portrayed in Xena.

True that she cheated on her husband but notice that she did remain loyal to him and stayed by his side even when other gods labled him ugly. So yes... there was love for Hephestus beyond the bounderies of lust. However, as Karma would dictate, Aphy did had a thing for Aries; And now you know why Libra and Aries are on the opposite ends of the Kramic wheel Lol!

What you call slutty, I call an open relationship. I admire the fact that she didn't lie to herself and was true to her inner feelings yet still managed to keep her love for who most describe as the ugliest Greek diety.

No,no ,no. I was certainly not an open relationship if her husband kept trying to catch her in the act. (And he even once publicly humiliated her for it)
And I had no idea cheating equated to loyalty; I learn something new everyday....

*edited to add*Look, I'll give you guys that the stupidity was a little inaccurate and that may have been there for comedic purposes. But other than that, I think they were pretty realistic with that character. They didn't over-romanticize her as would've been expected for the "Goddess of love" and I, for one, applaud them for that.
