I'm "such a meanie." Aaaawww. I think I'll cry. I soooo care. LOL.

It's the truth. Kill the messenger and the fact remains. Say what you will. We are in big trouble.
Yes, one generation has been saying the same thing about the next since time immortal, and people like you said the same thing you're saying now but the fact IS my parents, their generation, at least, were right. Everything they said was true and every subsequent generation has PROVEN it, deteriorating more than the one before it. I never said it was the kids fault. It most definitely isn't. That doesn't change the future and the fact that they are OURS. And it's dismal.
Case in point, the other day there was a blind man on campus. He was completely lost in the parking lot and had actually wandered into the flower beds. Not only did they not possess the simple compassion or humanity to help him, they stood around laughing that he was "wierd", lacking the cognitive ability, discernment, or common sense to even snap that there was something wrong. These aren't 8 year olds. They're in their early twenties. That is not an isolated incident.
It's really pathetic when the only account they, meaning amowls, several here, etc. can give of themselves is to start personal attacks and name calling-Another confirmation in itself.
That's all I have to say. Continue with your high level of insight and intellectual discourse. I wouldn't want to interrupt such original thought and astute foresight. LOL

you didn't call him anything....actually libralove, he called you and your entire generation the following names:

idiots.
Stupid as stumps.
Not the innocent youthful kind of stupid.
Terminal stupid.
Trailer trash with dental work and salon hair stupid.
Moronic.
Embicilic. (his spelling error, not mine)
Dumb as dirt.
Insensitive,
vapid,
dense,
sociopathic, and
irredeemable.

that is what ticked me off. and lets not forget :

Not to mention really insensitive,
mindless,
shallow,
cruel,
and spoiled.

still at large -

why didn't you choose to help the poor blind man?

you just watched?

how does that make you better than all of the kids you detest?

whats really pathetic is this statement after all of the name calling you did that I just listed. that is what is pathetic.

"It's really pathetic when the only account they, meaning amowls, several here, etc. can give of themselves is to start personal attacks and name calling-Another confirmation in itself."

iv seen a worse situation than that, i was going to intervene, but i couldnt, because there was 4 boys that wouldve jumped me on my own.

yeh i know what he/she said, but im not gonna drop to his/her level, besides, it doesn't bother me too much what he/she thinks because i know its not true for me, and others out there like me (like me as in some sense of being mature)

its not our/my problem how he/she feels, some day that person will or does have children, and they might get a better understanding than the position that grants them such a stereotypical/assumptive view on people my age.

he/she should embrace what i have to say because i know them better since iv grown up around them.

stillatlarge you are entitled to your opinion people were just reacting to your attitude, what do dental work and salon hair have to do with ANYTHING? and your insistence on YOUR right to be rude AND SNOBBISH when everyone else is expected to be respectful is exactly what gets up a lot of kids noses. are you saying you ARE a teacher? or are you one of the kids??

Sunshine,

"why didn't you choose to help the poor blind man?

you just watched? "

LOL That was exactly the thought I had when reading that, wich of course doesn`t make the youth`s behaviour any better.
But we can only start with ourselves, I guess.

I remember that one time when I was helping an old lady to climb up the stairs to a streetcar that the streetcardriver advised me to NOT help her, cause if she fell, I would be in trouble. I helped her nevertheless, and she didn`t fall.

However I really think we must do as we preach so to speak.

If I don`t want my pupils to have mobile phones in class, I shouldn`t be taking calls myself in front of class for example.
If I expect my pupils to say Good morning and have a nice day, I need to adress them the same way.

Unfortunately sometimes not even that works, the "Treat others as you want to be treated"-thing.

OH and one more thing, I think it`s pretty normal for young people to challenge authorities, grown ups. I also think it is normal that they carry their mobiles around (even though it is forbidden in my school), that they try to chew chewinggum and ask why they aren`t allowed to eat and drink during lesson.

Well, my pupils are allowed to drink, because I think it`s important that they drink enough to keep them healthy.

In most cases it really helps to TALK to pupils and EXPLAIN to them, what my rules are and why those are important.

Unfortunately I can`t reach everyone of them. And I know some may think it very silly of me that I try to constantly keep up the communicative flow over certain behaviour. I guess, some of them just behave quite nicely, because they really want me to shut up. lol

The majority of my pupils are actually really nice; but there are some who are really difficult to deal with, as they spread such an arrogance and indifference towards other people, that it`s hard to bear.
But I always keep in mind that they probably just push some button inside of me, and that they may just trigger my Saturn in Cance rin 8th house or my Pluto in Libra on the MC.

Sunshine, I hear you...
And as for this:

"Might as well beat old people too, so maybe when you are old and don't want to go to bed when you are told, WHAP! upside the head! Right? I mean if we want to beat the kids, we should make it fair and beat the old people too right?"

And this does happen obviously, but geriatric abuse for some reason makes me react even more strongly than other types of abuse. I know it's no 'worse'.

Did you read the recent article about teenage girls in a nursing home physically/sexually abusing the elderly ? Made me sick to my stomach.

I don't even think the whole issue we're talking about is respect so much as etiquette, and being a civilized human being.

exactly mvm - I had to watch videos during a training session about a year ago that showed blatent abuse to mentally handicapped people. It was very disturbing. It is one of the main reasons here in the states they set up group homes for these people, institutionalizing them was a horrific nightmare of abuse. Unbelievable the things I saw on that video, actual footage. Beatings with brooms, rape, you name it.

Lets see, those monsters would be around 50-80 years old now. no moral consience, nationwide. do the reasearch. There is no new game called cruelty and insensitivity, it has always been around.

Group homes are more accountable and now each disabled person has rights and caregivers have responsibilities to honor those basic rights.

20 years ago, horrific acts were being done to the most volnerable of our society. Those people are older now, much older. Look it up if youdon't believe me, it is all true. nationwide abuse against diasbled persons.

These disrespectful mouthy kids were not even born. So it wasn't them.

Human nature never changes. People are people. There are kind youths and there are youths with no consience, same as it ever was.

Teach your children love, kindness, empathy, everything else will come.

Amen, Sunshine.
That's all we can do.
I don't think I could've handled seeing the footage you saw. No no no. I would haunt me for life and I just couldn't deal.

And for the record, the kids now aren't all monsters. My little brother and sister are shy, but have always been kind. I don't know if this make sense, and maybe it sounds naive, but they have good hearts, and it shows. Their friends are also wonderful people - extremely intelligent and kind, as well as respectful.
Of course, they also go to school with some idiots.

Just like real life, you know?

I think George Carlin said it best when he said: "Kids are like any group of people: A few winners, and a whole lotta losers."

I dare say this, the evil person in me is coming out..... I may start a riot here.
In our school district, it is LEGAL to paddle the children. You must paddle the child in front of another teacher or administrator. How many of you can believe that paddling still occurs?????

Oh man, I got the paddle swung around by the principal when I was in school, haybelly. And that was in Los Angeles. I had no idea it was actually legal in some places.

Thanks for the reminder - I thought I had successfully suppressed that nasty memory of the leering principal telling me to get on his lap as he swatted my bottom!!!

(I ran out of the building LOL)

I’d like to believe that all children are innocent until there 5 yrs old, But sometimes I have trouble believing that.

I say, its a matter of the environment that Determines the Child and how they develop, can’t astrology help explain why some Kids act a certain way by determining the Childs Transits during there development years.

Negative Transits while an individual is in there youth can shape a person can they, I was greatly affected when I moved to Ottawa and my Transits reflected that five years ago.

I'm more cynical and grouchy because I'm in this blasted city.

I mean you'll have people that live here in Ottawa, that never lived outside of Canada, or in the world thinking its the best city in the world.

Even thought they haven't seen the rest of Canada or the world.

I know it can be frustrating at times, all my classmates are in there 20’s and yet they still act like 16 yrs olds some even younger.

I say to myself what kind of a College is this? Only to find all the other Colleges and Universities in Ottawa are the same.
Kids are like people there are good people and bad people, I think your in place were the bad ones are more apparent then the good ones.

You’ll notice some good kids if you go to a different environment try finding the place thats for you.

There are some little thugs about, going around town nicking people's stuff and causing trouble. I could put names to a couple here. But most kids are alright, and some are examples to us all.

To a certain extent I think you get what you give. I say please after asking my kids to do something, and guess what, they do it too. If you walk around with attitude being rude to everyone, you will get it back. Sometimes you don't get what you deserve, like some of the teachers on the boards who have to cope with the troublesome elements. But I think in general that pretty much stands.

Just yesterday, my friend was talking about these fellas, I think they have just won a children of the year award

quote:

Jonathan and Christopher Williams help their mother Lesley, who has had multiple sclerosis for the last 18 years.

Lesley admits that without the help of her 12 and 10-year-old sons she would probably not be able to remain at home.

"They are ever so good. They make their beds, they help me with my medication and they make my life much easier.

Wait, I'm sorry, wasn't it YOU who started the name calling?

And did you even help the blind man out of the flowerbeds? Or did you just stand and watch and note how NO ONE ELSE helped either?

You are a pot and you're black, too.

LL09 ~

There's a very old saying about "the pot calling the kettle black" that is along the lines of "if you live in a glass house, don't throw stones".....
