but that is exactly the point isn't it? The serial monogamy lifestyle is the same thing but spread out differently, with a lot more pain and rejection.

Beautifully written.....

A case of Venus and Mars I think...

I too find great comfort in the fact that every time I make love, I dont have to wonder where he has been etc....

We have been true to each other (so far..never say never) for almost 18 years.....and I still thank God for that!

Well if its in the house you will know where he's been. There was a welfare recipient somewhere in the UK who used to cycle across a valley between his two wives. I wonder what happened to them. they had a lot of children.

- pity the children.

One can have sex with plenty of partners. But one can only make love to one. Until you meet your one and true love, no amount of explaining can convince you that having sex is WAY different than making love.

To me, making love is a merging of two souls. Mind, body, spirit. It transcends both of you to a higher ground. And even when it's over, both of you don't want to let go. You just want to hang on to each other forever. This type of connection (in my humble opinion) cannot be achieved with more than one person.

I suppose if you cant satisfy each other sexually it would be understandable to look elsewhere....

But if you cant....then maybe you shouldnt be togther in the first place.

Even though my husband and I have toyed with the idea of other partners (and it was only toyed) I think when it came to it we wouldnt....there is too much love between us..

I am slowly learning there is a VAST difference between fantasy and reality....

And if I am honest, the thought of him inside of someone else, makes me feel sick!!!

Of course I would never say never...but for the moment that is how I feel.

On the welfare theme: it should be remembered that in countries where polygamy is the norm, it provides the welfare system that the state would provide in the west. I always thought the polygamy was the most sensible thing about Mormonism.

as a cancer the idea of knowing my husband was with other women as well...well the very thought of it makes me feel all trembly and shaking in the stomache!!!!! This is the cancer need for security..and the cancerian constant insecurity that i battle all the time. I couldn't accept a man who did not entirely accept me.

There is a such a difference between being with someone out of passion and love, and being there to avoid rejection and pain.

I know there are others who know what I mean. If it's really love, there is no question if it's right or wrong and so it's not a debate. If it's a question than that person has been seriously hurt before.

Choosing your own path, gives you dignity and self love, do what you want but make sure it's what you want and not what your partner wants.

The issue with loving two people is knowing that it's a decision out of love and not avoiding pain, and knowing it's your own decision.

Love/Sex is not therapy.

LOL malkouf!

I know of some men who have/had more than one wife. The wives never liked the idea. No they don't all live together as one big happy family. They all live in separate houses...and they're not even neighbours. And I dont understand why the prior wives just didnt divorce them...They're obviously in another country as it's illegal here, but one of them is Canadian of European descent...they're all beautiful and intelligent...maybe for the security and because they still love them?

It boggles my mind. I couldnt live in a polygamous relationship and cant fathom how other women could, unless they're reaping some major benefits from the guy.

In days gone by the Sultan often never got round to some of his wives, but they satisfied themselves in a lesbian manner.

I guess it depends on how one defines slavery..it's happening all over the world.

Hmm the example you gave...I wouldnt exactly classify as slavery because you're refering to prisoners-who owe society in some way-that are doing the work...corporations are another matter.

I guess this topic would make more sense in GU.

Don't know how we got on to slavery. Just said the Sultan was not such a stud you know. Didn't necessarily make out with every single wife.

There is an expression that comes to mind

"the eyes are greedier than the belly"....although in the sultan's case the greed cometh from a different place..
