Warmest April on record in U.S., top wettest in West by Nathan Rushton, 5/21/2006 The federal government agency that tracks weather data announced this week that the continental United States experienced the warmest April ever, based on records dating back to the late 1800s.The global surface temperature was the seventh warmest April on record, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration National Climate Data Center. For April, NOAA reported that the contiguous U.S. was 4.5 degrees warmer than the 20th century average between 1901 and 2000. Based on preliminary data, the average temperature for the contiguous U.S. for this April was the warmest in the 1895 to 2006 period, breaking the previous record for the month set in 1981, which was particularly concentrated over the south-central region. http://www.eurekareporter.com/ArticleDisplay.aspx?ArticleID=11371

heres the map from april 2006.....********** U.S. Temperature The average temperature for the contiguous United States for April (based on preliminary data) was the warmest in the 1895-2006 period of record, breaking the previous record for the month, set in 1981. April was 4.5°F (2.5°C) above the 20th century (1901-2000) average. The anomalous warmth was particularly concentrated over the south-central United States. Texas and Oklahoma had their warmest April on record, while New Mexico, Kansas, Arkansas, Missouri and Tennessee recorded their second warmest. Twelve other states recorded one of their top five warmest Aprils on record. None of the 48 contiguous states was cooler-than average. http://www.ncdc.noaa.gov/oa/climate/research/2006/apr/apr06.html Selected U.S. City and State Extremes April 2006 http://www.ncdc.noaa.gov/oa/climate/research/2006/apr/aprilext2006.html Record-breaking temperatures expected to continue
Unseasonably high temperatures broke records across Texas today. The National Weather Service says that the warm weather was expected to continue for at least another day before a "cold front" brings more normal conditions. A recorded high of 101 at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport broke the previous high of 94, set in 1913 and 1925. A meteorologist says it marked the hottest temperature ever recorded in the area in the month of April. Temperatures reached 107 in Laredo. A high of 100 broke a 1987 record of 90 in Austin. Temperatures tied the previous record of 92 in Houston, also set in 1987. The high temperatures prompted energy crises throughout the state today. Electric Reliability Council of Texas, which manages the state's electric grid, declared an emergency. It ordered utilities to impose rolling blackouts because of the shortage of electricity to meet demand. The energy shortage was compounded by plants undergoing planned outages for maintenance. The Weather Service says that the state was not expected to see much of a reprieve tomorrow, with temperatures forecast to remain in the high 80s and 90s across most of the state. The Junk Science of George W. Bush The Bush Administration has so violated and corrupted the institutional culture of government agencies charged with scientific research that it could take a generation for them to recover their integrity even if Bush is defeated this fall. Says Princeton University scientist Michael Oppenheimer, "If you believe in a rational universe, in enlightenment, in knowledge and in a search for the truth, this White House is an absolute disaster."
Now Congress and this White House have used federal power for the same purpose. Led by the President, the Republicans have gutted scientific research budgets and politicized science within the federal agencies. The very leaders who so often condemn the trend toward moral relativism are fostering and encouraging the trend toward scientific relativism. The very ideologues who derided Bill Clinton as a liar have now institutionalized dishonesty and made it the reigning culture of America's federal agencies.

GLOBAL WARMING ALGORE STYLE There is no escape, unless I spring into action and save you GLOBAL WARMING ALERT: GORE BURNS 439,500 LBS OF FUEL TO ATTEND SUMMIT "The most vulnerable part of the Earth's environment is the very thin layer of air clinging near to the surface of the planet, that we are now so carelessly filling with gaseous wastes that we are actually altering the relationship between the Earth and the Sun - by trapping more solar radiation under this growing blanket of pollution that envelops the entire world," Vice President Gore told the U.N. Global Warming conference of 159 nations this morning in Koyto, Japan. In what was one the most dramatic speeches in recent memory, Gore announced to world leaders: "Whether we recognize it or not, we are now engaged in an epic battle to right the balance of our Earth, and the tide of this battle will turn on when the majority of people in the world become sufficiently aroused by shared sense of urgent danger to join an all-out effort." Applause filed the halls of the Kyoto International Conference Center. "We must achieve a safe overall concentration level for greenhouse gases in the Earth's atmosphere." carbondioxidemethanenitrousoxidehydrofluorocarbonsperfluorocarbonssulfurhexa chloride. The message is serious. So serious in fact, the DRUDGE REPORT has calculated that Vice President Al Gore is burning more than 439,500 pounds of fuel, or 65,600 gallons, at a cost of more than $131,000 on his 16,000 mile daytrip, just to deliver the warning. Now that's commitment. Air Force II's Global Warming Express features an itinerary that takes the vice president from Washington to Florida to Washington to Alaska to Japan and back -- all in just 72-hours. Saturday, December 6, 1997 9:45 a.m. Air Force II departs Andrews AFB enroute Fort Myers, Fla. 12:05 p.m. Air Force II arrives Southwest Florida Regional Airport. Our fundamental challenge now is to find out whether and how we can change the behaviors that are causing the problem." Gore's plane, a Boeing 707 gas guzzler burns on average 4.1 gallons a mile. The complete Washington to Florida to Washington to Alaska to Japan and return to Washington trip calculated from commercial air mileage tables is just over 16,000 miles total. Gas gallons needed for AIR FORCE II to go 16,000 miles: 65,600. Applying the average price of $2.01 per gallon of Jet A to the 16,000 mile r/t -- the fuel cost alone passes $131,000.00. There are 6.7 pounds per gallon of jet fuel. Total pounds of fuel burned on Gore's Global Warming Express -- 439,500. Unprecedented Leadership. http://www.drudgereportarchives.com/dsp/special Reports_pc_carden_detail.htm?reportID=%7B08FAD3B1-9FAF-4037-BF26-573B2826B2C3%7D IP: Logged |

Well Petron, I see you splished and splashed around trying to find something to refute the clear evidence that in cities around the US, there is no evidence of global warming. To that end, you used a different set of charts and questioned the accuracy of the high-low records, average and mean temperature charts I posted. Too bad you overlooked something important when you were attempting to question the high temperature in Dallas for the day you questioned...among other things. Let me spell it out for you. You posted the observed....not the official temperatures for Dallas on the day in question. Problem, observed temperatures may be taken from a different reporting station further away from the reported city or location. You would have known that if you had checked the link.."Observed". Explanation! National Weather Service Observation Stations" "Your zip code, city, or town name has been mapped to the closest and best matched official National Weather Service reporting stations. We strive to match each location to three reporting stations within a reasonable distance, with the primary location being within 50 miles and 500 feet of elevation. In most cases, the current conditions displayed on your local weather page are reported from the closest observation station. However, there may be times when the closest station is not available. In these instances, we present the observations from the next closest station. Local observations or Current Conditions may not be available from the closest reporting station for a variety of reasons. Where some stations are closed overnight or on weekends, for instance, a local report will not be available. Other reasons may include the station being offline for repair or maintenance or various communications outages." Your "observed" temperatures came from "Hell" not Dallas. Though it's only a local call from Dallas to Hell, Hell is both hotter and at a "lower" elevation. IP: Logged |

BIG OIL IS AFRAID OF ALGORE AND THE TRUTH, JUST LIKE NEWSMAX ************* Big Oil Launches Attack On Al Gore
Today, the Competitive Enterprise Institute (CEI) will unveil two 60-second TV ads focusing on what it calls “global warming alarmism and the call by some environmental groups and politicians to reduce fossil fuel and carbon dioxide emissions.” The ad, which will be aired in more than a dozen cities across the country, is being released just a week before the May 24th opening (in LA and NYC) of Al Gore’s new movie on global warming, An Inconvenient Truth. Who is CEI? The Washington Post explains: The Competitive Enterprise Institute, which widely publicizes its belief that the earth is not warming cataclysmically because of the burning of coal and oil, says Exxon Mobil Corp. is a “major donor” largely as a result of its effort to push that position. CEI also gets funding from other oil companies through the American Petroleum Institute. Exxon documents reveal the company gave $270,000 to CEI in 2004 alone. $180,000 of that was earmarked for “global climate change and global climate change outreach.” Exxon has contributed over $1.6 million to CEI since 1998. CEI’s general counsel Sam Kazman said, “I think what attracted [Exxon] to us was our position on global warming.” CEI’s position? The Institute believes the dangers of global warming are akin “to that of ‘an alien invasion.’” Exxon’s spokesperson Tom Cirigliano has explained why the company is so dedicated to funding CEI’s pushback on global warming: We want to support organizations that are trying to broaden the debate. … There is this whole issue that no one should question the science of global climate change that is ludicrous. That’s the kind of dark-ages thinking that gets you in a lot of trouble. The science is not questioned because the science behind global warming is indisputable. Science Magazine analyzed 928 peer-reviewed scientific papers on global warming published between 1993 and 2003. Not a single one challenged the scientific consensus that the earth’s temperature is rising due to human activity. The U.S. Climate Change Science Program concluded that humans are driving the warming trend through greenhouse gas emissions. And the EPA has said that the recent warming trend “is real and has been particularly strong within the past 20 years…due mostly to human activities.” For the oil industry, Al Gore’s film exposing the truth is perceived as a threat, and they have no shortage of funds to try to distort it. http://thinkprogress.org/2006/05/17/attack-on-gore/ IP: Logged |

BIG OIL RESORTS TO OUTRIGHT LIES, JUST LIKE NEWSMAX ********** May 19 2006
Contact: Christian Basi Assistant Director 573-882-4430 BasiC@missouri.edu MU Professor Refutes National Television Ads Downplaying Global Warming Engineering Professor Curt Davis says TV Spots are Misrepresenting His Research COLUMBIA, Mo. - Recently, the Competitive Enterprise Institute (CEI), a non-profit public policy organization based in Washington, D.C. and partially funded by large oil companies, announced a national television campaign claiming that global warming is not causing ice sheets to shrink. Curt Davis, director of the Center for Geospatial Intelligence at the University of Missouri-Columbia, says CEI is misrepresenting his previous research to back their claims.
"These television ads are a deliberate effort to confuse and mislead the public about the global warming debate," Davis said. "They are selectively using only parts of my previous research to support their claims. They are not telling the entire story to the public." Prior to Davis' 2005 Science study, the U.N. Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change said that if global warming were occurring, increased precipitation in Antarctica's interior would likely result. In his study, Davis reported growth in interior East Antarctica. He said this growth was probably caused by an increase in precipitation. Davis said that three points in his study unequivocally demonstrate the misleading aspect of the CEI ads. - His study only reported growth for the East Antarctic ice sheet, not the entire Antarctic ice sheet. - Growth of the ice sheet was only noted on the interior of the ice sheet and did not include coastal areas. Coastal areas are known to be losing mass, and these losses could offset or even outweigh the gains in the interior areas. - The fact that the interior ice sheet is growing is a predicted consequence of global climate warming. "It has been predicted that global warming might increase the growth of the interior ice sheet due to increased precipitation," Davis said. "All three of these points were noted in our study and ignored by CEI in a deliberate effort to confuse and mislead the public."

You looked it up but you ignored the explanation Weather Channels posts for "oberved temperatures".So, Love Field is the official weather station; how do you explain the difference in the reported temperature you posted and the lower record high reported for Dallas on the chart from the same site....if the observed temperature was not taken from an alternate reporting site as Weather Channel suggests it might be? Face it Petron, global warming is all hot air...not from the weather but from a lower oriface global warming nuts speak through Temperatures in the US...as I showed you are not responding as global warming nuts say they should so perhaps it's happening in Europe? No help for the global warming nuts there either. Europe just went through a below normal and in some areas, brutal winter. IP: Logged | |
