Yes they do ...

I was out fishing this last weekend. The trip was rather slow and the run of fish was not that strong. Although people seemed to be catching BIG king salmon left and right, no one in our boat had gotten one. I said, to myself, "I HAVE the BIGGEST FISH" .... minutes later we are drifting along and a fish hits my net ... i begin to pull it the the sirface and realize i dont have a RED salmon, but a KING salmon in the net. I managed to get him into the boat with the help of my friend (he was a biggen) .... upon looking him over ... the captain says ... OH BOY - you got atleast a 50lb KING right there ... to bad you dont have a derby ticket, this one would do it. Didnt matter to me though, i got what i told myself i already had and them some. This was the biggest fish i had ever caught in my life. Everyone on the river heard me screaming with excitement. We circled back around and drifted the same spot again. We got right to the spot where i landed the KING and the other lady in the boat says,"Isnt this boat off to the left where you landed your KING at?" I looked up and recognized the boat and said "YUP, it sure is" It was then that i read the name of the boat ..... "God's Grace II"

Last year I was getting divorced and looking for a house for my daughter and I. I was under a lot of pressure, time, money etc. and finally made an offer on the house which seemed to suit us although my heart wasn't really into that. I sort of convinced myself that it was the right thing to do mostly because I was afraid if I let it go, I'll end up with nothihg.

After I made an offer, it literally took these people forever to get back to me. I was very anxious about the whole thing falling through and then all of the sudden decided to stop worrying and said to myself. "If it's meant to be, it will work out. If not, it's only because there is something better for me down the road." The very next day an absolutely perfect home came on the market. Better location, lower price and it was a condo, which I definitely preferred to a single home, because I liked the idea of all outside maintenance to be taken care of. This is where we live now and I love every single day here.

Woah.

AG,...

Nice.

I'm with you.

That's the subtle Capricorn wit I keep hearing about.

I'm totally abandoning whatever bull---- I was about to say.

Actually, I completely avoided the initial question. My personal answer is, "Yes."

I, of course, appreciate the acknowledgement.

My momentary cleverness is a great mantra for a Capricorn to take up. Not saying that any other sign shouldn't, but Caps charge in life is to create and do things that make a difference. With my Aqua MC, I especially feel that way. I think I'll add those lines to my meditation list.

I think the intitial question has an inherent quality of misdirection. It places personal power in the "hands" of something external. Whether or not things happen for a reason (good or bad), is a question that puts us in a position of dependency upon external "reasons" and justifications.

Your comment, AG, is deceptively simple, in that it suggests, to me, that the way to give meaning to one's life is not to seek and wait for someone or something to reveal a meaning, but, to positively GIVE it; to create it, if need be!

It is very existential.
Camus said something to the effect that,
even if the universe was devoid of meaning,
a man could still give meaning to his own life.

"Though he slay me, yet will I trust in him:
but I will maintain mine own ways before him."
- Job 13:15

Gooberz, sorry it so long to get back to the topic.

You asked me to expound. I'm not sure I know what you want me to elaborate on.

I believe God or the universe has an overall plan, but it's hard for me to wrap my brain around the concept of every single thing happening for a reason.

How can there be free will if EVERYTHING is pre-written? Isn't part of the plan personal growth? Each person learns in their own time & by different experiences. And that begs the question of the power of prayer & sending light. Why would that have any validity if everything was pre-ordained?

To me it seems that there would be a grand puppet master if everything happens for a reason. What would be the purpose of that?

I don't think that everything's necessarily pre-written, but I do believe in things happening for a reason.

I think that there may be forces at work that present signs to people throughout their life. Sometimes people don't catch them, sometimes they do, but I think the same message keeps recurring until the person gets it and acts on it.

I think that there might be an end potential that we all have, but the way that we get to that end result can happen through a number of routes as long as we stay open to what our potential may be.

"Fate and destiny are two words commonly mistaken to mean the same thing: Fate is whatever happens. Fate is inevitable; nobody controls or escapes fate. Destiny, on the other hand, is ours to create, and it develops through our personal responses to fate. Fate is the cards you're dealt; destiny is how you play them." by Antero Alli

I believe yes and no.
It depends.
I think most often, yes.
But sometimes chance of existance makes it no. Caught up in the unpredictable, infinitely overlapping cross-fire energy flow-swirl of the One.

If there are reason and lessons,
I think most often instinctively you know. If you are honest with yourself and open to wonder.

very clever, AG.

AG, Kamilla, Full-fifthhouse-loulou,

Great quotes!

Kim,

Thanks for sharing.

Personally, I believe that all things happen for a reason, and I also believe in Free Will- I do not think these two have to stand against each other as two polar opposites; I believe that every single thing, even a downright small, seemingly trivial one, does happen for a reason. When I first heard somebody say "Everything happens for a reason" (and it was a Capricorn who said that), I don't think I really understood what that meant, and didn't ponder it more deeply. But as time went by, I gradually came to believe it.

But I would like to take the opportunity to clarify that "the universal laws" CANNOT be so over-simplified in such a horrid way. It's not simply just "you get what you give", "you're responsible for everything in your life, and yourself, no one else...", I vehemently protest. That's NOT the so-called "universal laws"- that's grandiosity, delusional thinking, and blasphemy.
