This isn't exactly a ghost story, but I'm fairly sure there's something going on in our home.

My Grandfather, Grandmother, and Uncle all died here, though (at different times), so I guess I shouldn't be too terribly surprised.

>_> I think my Grandma keeps making things disappear and then reappear.
Like, I will completely empty out or clear off an area in order to look for something that I know had been there and won't find it.
The next day, it's there.

Tricksy Grandma

So, I needed some much needed time away, needed to really spend time in and decide IF I want to move back home, etc.

I googled B&B's in Amish country and I found this lovely Victorian Mansion.

It just happened to be in the town my grandpa grew up in, and was a block from downtown and was so lovely, so I booked.

The owner and I have ALOT in common, bonded quite nicely and due to the time of the year I had this awesome place to myself most of the two days I was there.

Come to find out, the original builder of this turn of the century Victorian Marvel and my grandpa's great grandpa were business partners!!!

So...

On my last day there, the inkeeper left my breakfast on the marvelous wooden table in the traditional dining room. She placed me at the head of the table, with my back toward the Great Room as she did the morning before.

I was enjoing my coffee and baked casserole...and I got full real quick, so I decided to get up and explore.

She has many, many items for purchase and I wanted to take home some Victorian trinkets so I began poking around.

(She has areas marked "private" and I respected her boundaries, but the rest of the place was mine to discover!)

I looked in a drawer or two of a wonderful diningroom ensamble. I gathered a cup, a coaster, all with the house's image, some lace pins, soaps and antique hankies.

I sat back down to finish my breakfast (had a long day ahead, 2 hour drive to the airport and another 3 on the plane) so I wanted to fill up.

Well, almost immediately I felt really uncomfortable...I got this huge anxitey and I thought to myself "great am I going to die on the plane today?" I pondered a bit as to where this feeling was coming from all of a sudden...then it hit me...I was being watched, from behind.

I sat for a bit...just to feel the all encompassing energy, (which physically took up the entire Great Room behind me), then I turned to my left. Could have turned to my right, but I turned to my left and there I saw a little table, I had missed upon my earlier ventures in the house, with chairs to either side. I got up and saw framed pictures of the original owner/builder and his lovley wife in a separate pic, with a Victorian lamp illuminating them. Her pic was respectful of the time. It was kind of from the back, with her head turned slightly turned forward. HIS was one of those pics where the eyes follow you everywhere...

Immediately I knew.

I spoke to Frank, I told him it was OK, I would never harm the house and how blessed I was to discover it and how much I loved it already.

I flirted and hinted that IF he wished to return it to the family (as close as he could with my kin and he as former business partners all those years ago) he would have to work some magick and I would certainly purchase the place and love it as he and she did.

I sat back down and no more heavy feeling....

Just peace...

SO this is my most profound and most reacent "ghost story."

Attaching a pic of the place I fell so in love with for a coupla days...

You've been in Amish country? I was last there the day after Thanksgiving. My dad makes deliveries down there, and I was with him - places called Sugar Creek, Charm, and I forget the rest of them.

in late may or early june 2011 i was at a bonfire party with all of my friends. the property we had it on was out in the middle of nowhere in a heavily forested area, there was only one light on the whole property, other then that it was pitch dark, eerily dark. anyways me and my friends were drinking and sitting around the fire and we started talking about ghosts, the witching hour etc. welll most of the guys had turned in and it was just me and two other guys talking , the fire was getting dim and turning to embers. suddenly the light on the powerpole went out and at the same time the dogs that had been laying quietly at our feet started growling and looking off into the woods. i looked at the time on my phone and it was 3am exactly... the supposed witching hour

Lexx I was wondering this...do the Amish use traditional healthcare?

I grew up with them in northern Indiana and Central Ohio, but came down, well was drug down when I was 16.

My heart is home and I am making the efforts to get back, and I could so see myself working as a nurse with The Amish!!

Getting tired, very tired of mainstream Amiercan medicine and working in an ICU!

Well hooooly crap y'all r goin to MY area! Well I live somewhat near there. Charm has this store where amish make really really good and long lasting footwear. I got a pair of cowgirl boots there yrs ago. They were really nice too. Berlin is a nice little place to go to as well. If u guys r ever in orrville they have a lil place called dutch country where they make yummy cake rolls and I hear the apple dumpling or whatever it is is pretty darn good. Google it and u will find the address. Anyhoo just had to put my 2 cents in love the pic of the house! I just love old houses. So much history to them and they have a unique style and feel to them that new homes don't have.

*edit* maybe its walnut creek not berlin I'm thinking of. Oops.

I wish I could answer this for u considering my ex husband used to haul amish guys for a living. We lived in shreve for a time and he was always going to millersburg/charm/sugar creek area too. We had dinner a few times with a couple of his amish friends but it was so long ago I don't rem very much. I honestly can't remember now what they did for health care. If I was on friendlier terms with him id ask

Thanks shyvirgo!

I have been to Wooster many, many times, but like I say, it was in the mid 70's.

My mom married a farmer, born and bread Dalton that is how we ended up there, my grandparents, otherwise raised me in North Canton, still lots of Amish in those days.

Gosh, you make me miss it sooooo much!

I have vowed to my brother my next mini vaca will be to his summer home in Leadville, CO, but after that another trip to grandpa's in Indiana then to go home where I am so drawn to!

Who knows, by then I may just be living there!

In this area (Northeast Ohio, Northwestern Pennsylvania)
many (most?) indeed do, at least for serious health issues.
They are taken in by "Yankee" friends or in groups by "Taxi",
which is folks driving groups of them in vans to
hospitals, doctors, and grocery stores and yes, Malls.
I imagine at the chiropractor and the hospital I am only seeing some,
as who knows how many do not use traditional doctors/hospitals.
However many do, including ob/gyns.
A young Amish lady babysat my son.
Her family had electricity in a hidden way so that when strict old order Amish relatives would visit,
they would not know there was underground electric service
and a hidden room with washer/dryer/electric stove.
Radios and televisions in barns is not uncommon though.
Seems for some using an gasoline ran electric generator to run electrical things is OK.
So I guess it is a personal choice when it comes to health care?

Awww I'm sorry I wasn't trying to make u feel nostalgic lol wow considering I was born in 79 I wasn't even thought of the last time u were in wooster LOL I drove thru north canton once in my life. I don't think there r many amish there now by the looks of it. If u should ever find ur way back to dalton or surrounding areas may I suggest u attend this car show they have in massillon every yr in mid-june. It literally starts at like 9 am (ppl come earlier tho) and lasts alllllll day and evening very fun. They close off a good part of the city for it....I rem when I was married in my early 20s my ex used to go to these auctions in kidron a lot. TONS of amish there. I went with him a few times.....my oldest son's dad lives in apple creek on a back rd so once a week I drive there and I always hafta slow down (I don't really HAVE to I just choose to) bc there r always amish buggies to watch out for lol I pass by all their farms. Tell u what, amish make the BEST peanut butter!! Lot better than what u buy from grocery stores. I still have this amish built bookshelf from clear back in 01 and I'm tellin ya their stuff is so much better than the el cheapo veneer crap u buy at walmart. Lovely big oak bookshelf sigh....Here u got me going....lol I think I just hijacked ur thread and went off topic haha ok ok I'm done. I hope u come back and at least visit the area tho

NO aplolgies!!!

I need this to get me back home...

YAY!

AND I know of all the towns you speak of...

I am (well kind of) ashamed to say that one of my field trips in elementary school was to The Football Hall of Fame

I remember it quite clearly, standing outside somewhere, lookin outside and wondering what the heck was I doing in The Hall of Fame?

LOL!

Such a strange Pisces child!

Lmao! I've never been to it but I've drove by it bc u can see the exit signs for it along the interstate by there. That's funny what u said haha lol

I find it strange and yet very neat u know of all these cities and towns I'm mentioning. If u have a fb account u could always do a search and find the towns u lived near and I bet a lot of them u can 'like' and see if anyone knows about amish and their healthcare system. Just a thought. I have no proof to back it up. I'm just throwing out ideas here.

"Nice my post just vanished and I refreshed the pg 3x sigh.....I was agreeing with lexx. My ex husband used to work for this amish guy (as in he got paid to haul him around to wherever he needed to go for whatever reason) and I remember he got a cell phone but put it in our name under our plan bc he wasn't allowed to have one in his name in his community. AND he had a land line phone but it was in his barn. His barn had electric but not his house with his family. So I'm thinking things may vary depending on the individual amish community and how strict they r. ??? "

quote

Friggin...didnt quote correctly!

Yes, I have seen this!

But, unfortunately, my grandpa reports that the Amish are pretty much "screwed" now. They still have big families and they just cant afford to go and buy their own farms, so they must work outside the community.

Something I never saw as a child growing up in Stark and Wayne counties...

K got it. I like the fact too that I'm anonymous on here. On fb I don't say much bc I have a lot of family on there and they wouldn't approve of me doing online tarot readings on an astrology forum...I keep that kind of private on there. Along with most of the details of my life lol love my fam very much they r just a lil too nosy for me. I will sent u a req when I get around to it and let u know who I am.

That was very sad to me to read that even in amish communities they r struggling financially. I guess the eco
