My Sun is in my 8th house at 25.43 Cancer. Oh, and I have Uranus there as well at 10.56 Leo. I have lots of asteroids there too, but those are the big ones. But I never felt much like a Cancer, I always felt more like a Scorpio. That “to the depth” sort of feeling. I had a reading with Anne Ortelee once, and she stated it very matter of fact, “you see to the depths of their soul”. So yes, I guess I have to know what’s behind the door. The who, what, and why of it all. I have never been able to accept the surface stuff and let it go at that, I have to understand why, and what’s behind all that? But I’m also psychic, so I usually know if what someone is telling me is real, or it’s just what they want me to know. Like a cover story. Or a mask. But I do have to accept it’s all they are comfortable with either sharing or showing. I have to admit that I have a hard time keeping things to myself though. I have to remember not to let something come up in a conversation, because I have to remember that they haven’t told me about it yet. That they haven’t shared it with me yet. A lot of times, I try not to look too closely at people, because the information just comes really quickly, and then I feel guilty I know so much about their life. That whether they tell me about it or not doesn’t really matter, because it’s already played out in my head like a movie. And then I feel guilty, because I know so much about their life. So I do struggle with that sense of wanting to know all the deep, dark secrets…but also feeling guilty that I know the deep, dark secrets.

So my question is, what planets are in your 8th, and how does it play out for you? Anyone else struggle with their 8th? I can’t be the only one!

Also, I thought this was a good article that explains a lot of how my 8th plays out for me and wanted to share.

Retrograde Saturn in Cancer in 8th house, exactly trine Juno and exactly quinkunx Moon.
Also widely (4 degrees) conjunct Eros and Vertex, which fall into the 8th house, too.

Do I struggle with it?
You can bet I do.

Fear of intimacy and yet a compulsive need for feeling really close to someone.
A real stop and go thingy - well more stop than go actually.

Very serious in 8th house issues. Letting go of someone I really care for is not just difficult, it seems to be impossible. So it often seems easier to not grant anyone entrance in my 8th house at all.

Well.

I don't have any regular planets in the 8th house.

I have retrograde, centaur Chiron in Aries in the 8th.
I could relate to wounds, pain, wounded healing involvin 8th house stuff like sexual matters. Barbara Hand Clow said that there is karmic issues involving 8th house matters as well as powerful occult potential

but after the discovery of transneptunian dwarf planet, Eris,
I found out that I have it retrograde in Aries in 8th. It's conjunct my Chiron.

The Chiron-Eris conjunction is sextile my Midheaven

at the end of the article, it said the following:

"True healers, body workers, counselors, paramedics, detectives, psychiatrists and psychics usually have planets in the eighth house. The most powerful healers often have Pluto here. Several body workers, reiki masters, and pranic healers have this placement. The most important thing to remember is that the eighth house does not lie. It calls out of the woodwork all truths, emotions, feelings, and thoughts. Those with eyes to see will see. Just remember to experience this as oneness with others, not separateness. In the end, this will only increase your abilities and understanding of your purpose here on earth. The eighth house is nothing to be afraid of, because it is a blessing in disguise. Individuals with planets here are truly our world’s future healers."

Well..Pluto is not not a planet. It's a transneptunian dwarf planet. Astrologers say that it is a very powerful placement for the 8th house.

If that's the case

What about Eris? It's a transneptunian dwarf planet like Pluto. It's larger than Pluto too.

Eris would also be a very powerful placement for the 8th house.

It could be a placement for a powerful healer

also the other transneptunian dwarf planets, Makemake, Haumea and transneptunian dwarf planet candidates, Sedna,Orcus,Quaoar,Varuna, and Ixion in 8th could be powerful 8th house placements

they all orbit beyond Neptune like Pluto. Sedna orbits way beyond all those objects.

any ways

I'd say that my Eris in 8th fits with my sex hormonal divergence (high estrogen levels, lower than average testerone levels) leading to my not fitting the male stereotype, supporting women's rights and homosexual rights. It could fit with interracial sex. It also could fit challenge the status quo when it comes to psychiatry and pointing out misdiagnosing neurodivergents as well as point out racism in psychiatry which could make me seem controversial. This is seen with Eris in 8th sextile Midheaven, biquintile Mercury in Scorpio in 3rd.

I have Africa-Africano-Chiron-Eris (all retrograde) in Aries in 8th sextile my Midheaven.

My Sun is oppose/conjunct Eris Nodes in Taurus/Scorpio in 2nd/8th houses which fit with the retrograde Eris in 8th.

There is the possibility that my cause of death could be connected to equality matters, diversity, controversy, discord.

Philip Sedgwick listed murder as one of Eris' mundane keywords

Eris also trines my Ceres in 11th, sextiles/trines my North Lunar Node in Aquarius/Leo in 5th/11th houses, Vertex/Antivertex Axis in Aquarius/Leo in 5th/11th houses

My retrograde Sedna in 2'06 Taurus is in 8th house...it could be similar to Neptune in 8th, but a lot more otherworldly. It sextiles my Moon in Pisces in 6th,quincunx my Neptune in Sagittarius in 3rd and Pluto in Libra in 1st.

so 2 big transneptunians in my 8th house

Great thread!

Does an full on 8th house in a composite also point to struggles and challenges of death and transformation, i wonder?

Venus In Gemini - i think your 8th house sun is great. You are a great balance of sweetness and intensity. It's very endearing and yet you cut through all the superficiality in others. I love that!

Glaucus,

if I consider the Transneptunians I have Orcus and Makemake in 8th house.
(well, Orcus in 8th house sounds pretty Plutonic-underworldy to me).

Eris in 8th house sounds pretty challenging.

"Glaucus,

well..Makemake is an official dwarf planet/Plutoid like Pluto,Eris,and Haumea. It's Pluto's equal.

Transneptunian dwarf planet Orcus is a plutino. It has very similar orbit to Pluto's. They both have 2:3 orbital resonance with Neptune, and that why Orcus is named after Etruscan God of the Underworld.

so yeah....Orcus in 8th would seem very similar to Pluto in 8th

Makemake is named after Rapanui fertility, creation God.
Makemake in 8th might be a strong emphasis on reproduction

both placements can be very powerful for metaphysical, healing matters

"Eris in 8th house sounds pretty challenging."

It doesn't have to be challenging

none of the transneptunians have to be challenging

they are just about evolutionary intensified lessons/experiences

like I said before

Eris in 8th can be supporting women's rights, homosexuality rights, and advocating in the behalf of neurodivergents in regards to psychiatric misdiagnoses, questioning psychiatry and pointing out the flaws in it
interracial sex isn't bad either

main thing is about diversity, equality matters in 8th house matters

it can be very powerful for metaphysical, healing matters.

Thanks, Glaucus.

BTW when I call something "challenging", I do not necessarily mean "bad".
"challenging" for me implies, that there is a certain emphasis / intensity to a certain theme; something that requires your attention and will be very pronounced, in both ways, the positive and the negative expressions.

So maybe I used the word "challenging" in the wrong way.

Hmm, a fertility God in my 8th house - that is something I have to think a bit about.

I do agree, that probably they are indicating the emphasis on metaphysical matters for me.
It definitely is an important issue for me.

Lara: Does an full on 8th house in a composite also point to struggles and challenges of death and transformation, i wonder? "

Yeah, my ex and I had a FULL 8th house composite with a Scorpio stellium in there. It was all about death and transformation. As in, transform or DIE. I had to transform myself out of the marriage because it was killing me
I don't think it has to be that bad for all...though I will say with a composite like that, the couple needs to be flexible to themes of deep transformation, because if one of them isn't, all you end up with is intensely painful power struggles - which is another facet of the 8th house composite.

I don't have anything in my 8th house for regular planets, though my Juno-Ceres conjunction (Sagittarius) is in there.
Relationships tend to be all about transformation.
Also, I could take it a step further and say that my 8th house ruler, Jupiter, is the apex of my T-Square.
I like my 8th house.

I have Sun, Moon and Mercury in the 8th house.
I used to feel comfortable knowing things the way the article describes.
Then, I gave up that part of myself to conform.

Ami

PS One thing the article said about wonderful people coming in to your life is 100% true for me. They will have a love and caring for me that seems supernatural.

Ceres in 8th house can be significant for it's a dwarf planet like Pluto. It's Pluto's equal in Astronomy.

My moon is in the 8th house, and it's also conjunct my Liliths. Its in Virgo but I have alot of the same extremities as a Scorpio Mooner. Figures, since I get along with them so well. When you combine the virgo/scorpio influences, I have a really fine eye for details and I'm a walking lie/BS detector. And as a mutable moon, I get seriously/intensely bored with life if you put me in the wrong place.

Do I struggle with it? Yeah, but its really because of people.

Interesting, Raymond... I do feel very strongly in general about Ceres - I didn't know it was similar to Pluto in astronomy. I'm pretty sure that asides from the Juno conjunction, there are no other aspects to it from other planets. My boyfriend also has a Ceres/Juno/Venus conjunction in his 8th, but it's toward the end of that house.

"Interesting, Raymond... I do feel very strongly in general about Ceres - I didn't know it was similar to Pluto in astronomy. I'm pretty sure that asides from the Juno conjunction, there are no other aspects to it from other planets."

Well...it's not similar to Pluto in Astronomy. It just has the same dwarf planet, classification as Pluto,Eris,Makemake, and Haumea.

Ceres is the only asteroid to be classed as a dwarf planet.

Ceres is actually a prototype planet aka planet embryo. It failed to become full-fledged planet. Ceres is large, round, and has water ice compared to unlike the other asteroids.
http://planetary.org/explore/topics/asteroids_and_comets/ceres.html

With Ceres being large, I couldn't understand why Astrolabe and other astrological companies made made in depth interpretations for much smaller Chiron available and none for Ceres.
I also wonder if they are reconsidering giving Ceres in depth interpretations after it being promoted to dwarf planet and so higher ranking than Chiron in Astronomy and the equal to Pluto in Astronomy.

This is Solar Fire's interpretation for Ceres in 8th house:

You feel nourished when you experience deep and intense emotions. You may nurture yourself by delving into metaphysical matters. You may find or give comfort in sexual experiences; or care for dying people.

I have a strong 8th house. Mars in Capricorn in the 8th, but he is doing a tricky tango with the squares from my Arien Sun & my Libran Uranus.

I get told that I seem like a scorpio - however it could come from anywhere in my chart.

I'm in a I don;t want to think today mode.....my brain is taking a break and I am relaxing on this nice sunday.

I have moon and venus in the 8th.

The whole article was spot on.

quote:
Eighth house individuals remind me of the Phoenix, they are survivors. They are destined to go through emotional, physical and material death at sometime in their lives.

Totally true.

quote:
Eighth house individuals can see through other people’s motives, thoughts, and actions. What others show them on the outside is insignificant, because they will zone into the true energy, thoughts and emotions of others.

Again, totally true.

The story about the social worker happens to me so often that I finally listen to what i suspect and act on it. I think people think I'm psychic, but I just notice things no one else does. I am amazing at reading body language. You can't hide what you're really thinking because your body will betray you. I catch onto this naturally. It's not something that I learned. I was like this as a child too. I actually don't think it can be taught -- it's innate, although people can learn to looks for certain things, it's not always textbook cues.

Is there a part two?

Cynnard, I thought you WERE a Scorpio!!

I have Sun/Venus both in Sag there.

I can relate to DD who said about not letting people go easily. Although, I haven't yet learned how to not let them in the first place.

In respect to death, I have had more deaths in my life then the average person. At least, that's what I've been told.
Most people my age still have a grandparent, or at least, had one in the not so distant past. I haven't had them in years.
It's strange in a way, when so many people you love die, you almost come to expect it.
It desensitizes you, sort of.

I notice 8th house people have a different perspective about death, in that we are able to discuss it alot, and even joke about it, which horrifies other people.

I never understood why the subject is so taboo, since it happens to everyone. But, then again, I never understand why ANY subject is taboo!

I don't have any planets in my eighth house, but it is ruled by the Sun, which is in my fifth house. This may be a reason why I get along with Scorpios so well and why I tend to attract them.
