What is someone's chart would indicate selfishness? I know this girl who blows me away with how little she thinks about others, well actually she does alot in a different sense, caring way too much what others think of her yet still thinks too much about herself.

They say people who are first quadrant heavy can be this way, but I'm careful with that interpretation since that isn't always the case. IP: Logged |

You would look at the ruler of her 8th House because the 8th House describes "other people's worth". The 2nd House describes "self-worth"You can also look at planets that may be in her 8th House and what kind of planets and aspects are affecting them. IP: Logged |

What do you mean by she thinks too much about herself?I am confused by that. Can a person be self conscious, insecure without being selfish and inconsiderate of others?
I think it's important to really understand the person,his/her experiences I just don't think being selfish is something that can easily be seen in the chart.
I don't think anything of a moral or ethical nature can be seen in the chart.
futhermore, if I was her , I'd be upset if somebody was looking at my chart to see what my indicators are for being selfish or other negative personality traits.
Maybe it would be a good thing to tell her about your perception of her being selfish and see what she says. She could give you a detailed explanation about why she is that way. She may even give you a rebuttal that she isn't selfish and give a detailed explanation about that. There is nothing wrong with confrontation and telling a person straight up what you think about that person as long as you're not doing it to deliberately hurt his/her feelings I also think that selfish isn't necessarily a bad thing when it involves taking care of,looking after, and being protective of one's self. Some people take care of others and not pay attention to their own needs. They can become too passive and let people take advantage of them. A person who appear to oblivious to what other's feel or think might have reasons to appear that way. Maybe there is something going on with her. Maybe she is stressed,frustrated,and/or overloaded about something. Maybe she doesn't understand emotional, social cues well. There are various reasons. I think in many cases, insecurity and low self esteem is connected to states of being selfish and inconsiderate. It seems that many selfless people also very secure and have great self esteem. It would be interesting to see what she would think about being analyzed through Astrology.
I also think that it would be interesting to see how your chart compares with her. That could reflect your perceptions of her.

Taking your theory Geo and with 8th ruler Neptune in 4th, would that mean selfish at home? I'm not understanding how that works. IP: Logged |

I don't think there's anything wrong with what I'm asking. She is selfish, this is someone I'm very close to and have known forever and I'm actually related to. I never said shes was a bad person. I have seen it many many times in many ways, I even lived with her for a bit. "Can a person be self conscious, insecure without being selfish and inconsiderate of others?" Um I never said that, I just added that she was also self conscious. And it's not just me who sees this in her either. She can't hold on to any relationship very long because of how she treats them. Which is probably why she only really has family. And because I'm family that is also why I'm still close to her, cause I would have thrown her out along time ago. ------------------ ~Believe~ IP: Logged |

This is not an astrological explanation, Crazy Aqua. I think you are talking about Narcissism. It is paradoxical cuz the person has little self. Cuz of this--they erect a big false self. They have to lie to themselves about how much they REALLY hate themselves. So, they make a big, false front which other people see-such as you are--now. The person appears pathologically selfish. I have the best book on it--I think. It is called Malignant Self Love by Sam Vaknin. If you want to ask any more questions--feel free. I was on Narcissism Board for 5 years.. My mother is like this( and a practicing therapist lol). Ami

I was actually thinking that Ami, but I guess I wanted to see if there was an astrological explaination. It doesn't seem to be to that extent.Hmm reading that again you may be right, she does tend to build herself up to be more than she is, but I can see whats shes doing then she'll even talk about how insecure she is to me at times, but then goes back again. Like different personalities. I just thought that was cause her Asc is Gemini lol ------------------ ~Believe~ IP: Logged |

No, Crazy Aqua, it is when your development gets arrested early in life--maybe age 4--5. They stay at that age. What would be appropriate for a 5 year old would not be for a 25 year old lol. It is really sad. They never had the chance to develop a self that had any substance or solidity. x o Ami

I think a chart with a strong focus on the self, to the detriment of other aspects in it, would be more prone to selfishness. Maybe lots of planets in the 1st house, possibly conjunct the ascendant?I once knew someone with lots of planets in the 1st house, and she was indeed selfish, and incredibly narcissistic at the same time. She had Venus conjunct ascendant, too. IP: Logged |

The pattern I have notice about people being selfish and/or narcissistic... which this is only my observation, don't know if it's true but with the people I know they either have ASC conj Sun or Moon or have a stellium in the first quadrant... IP: Logged |

those same 1st house placements and aspects to the Ascendant can indicate somebody that is independent, self-reliant,self-sufficient One of my maternal aunts has Moon in Sagittarius in 1st house conjunct Scorpio Ascendant, and it is squared by Uranus in Virgo in 9th and Chiron in Pisces in 3rd.
She has a career in Veteran Affairs, helping disabled veterans get their disability benefits. She has Sun conjunct Neptune in Scorpio in 12th. She also has Mars in Scorpio in 12th conjunct Ascendant.
She was in the army for 4 years. She is bisexual. She is a practicing Buddhist. She was a high school drop out, but she went back to school and earned a bachelor's degree ------------------ Raymond Andrews, President,Executive Director of Developmental Neurodiversity Association Supporting the Neurodiversity Movement A Different Mind Is Not A Deficient Mind. http://www.facebook.com/#!/group.php?gid=131944976821905&ref=ts IP: Logged |

I think that the Sun conj Neptune has a big hand in that- I think it "takes away" from the selfish action...My mom has Sun conj Neptune (but also conj her ASC) and she will bend over backwards and do anything for anybody but she has no issue taking a stand for herself if she feels like she is being used... she is a great manager. But I also have the Sun conj neptune as well (it's in my 6th/Sag) and I volunteer all the time and help anybody whenever I can (was going to go into the military but I have a health use that is stopping me) but my issue is taking a stand for myself when I feel like I'm being used. When I thought I was being used I would just ignore them. I have a hard time understanding what motivates people to use others. But around when I turned 30 I started taking a stand for myself... I'm still trying to get used to it- I still feel guilty after the fact. But life is filled with lessons EDIT: My mom's Mars is in the 12th/Libra, she is Scorpio rising. Me- Mars in Sag, in the 7th conj my DSC. I think you definitely have to look at the whole chart with this and not just one section... IP: Logged |

I can be selfish sometimes. It's a negative trait of mine. But sometimes, very giving and very compassionate. I know someone who's the same way with similar placements as mine.Moon in 8th, Sun and Saturn in the 2nd house. IP: Logged |

Hi, G. um, I meant CrazyAquarian's friend. I (Gemini/Sagittarius/Virgo) was accused of selfishness by an Aries, of all people. She wish that was true. From experience Mars in Capricorn is pretty shrewd in the generosity department. Of the most selfish people I know, one is a 1980 Aquarius with Moon conjunct Mars in Virgo, a 4 birth # with a 6 Lifepath. The other is a 1981 double Sagittarius, 26 birth #, with a 2 Lifepath. Shocking. IP: Logged |

Her Mars is in Sag but her Sun is in Cap. But my mars is in Cap and I'm pretty generous but its conjunct neptune, maybe thats why? When you say shocking you mean because of the Sag? Cause she has her moon, mars, uranus, and saturn in sag. ------------------ ~Believe~ IP: Logged |
