I haven't found too much info on house rulerships. They usually explain their positions in houses and recommend that you look into aspects, but that's it, most of the time. So I would like that we all contribute to interpreting them, from your own experience.

I'll start with a few.

-1R (Saturn) in Scorpio, conjunct Pluto - I'm not your average Aries Sun, I'm much more restrained and secretive, more intense (on the inside).
-1R (Saturn) sextile 7R (Moon) - I'm hoping this means happy marriage.
-1Co-R (Uranus) conjunct Jupiter, in Sagittarius - one of the indications of me being overweight
-1Co-R (Uranus) trine 7Co-R (Sun) - again hoping for a happy marriage. (truth be told, I've had only good guys in my life... there was some heartache but I suppose I share the blame)
-2R (Neptune) in Sagittarius - generally I've had good luck with money and possessions, I seem to be in the right place at the right time.
-2R (Neptune) conjunct Moon - like the tide, I've had highs and lows.
-2R (Neptune) conjunct 7R (Moon) - marriage for money?!
-3R (Mars) conjunct Mercury, in the 3rd - basically, I think about thinking. Proper grammar and spelling are important to me. The way one's ideas are expressed is important and can tell a million clues about someone. I spend more time analyzing the way a person expresses him/herself than what they are actually saying. (it's in Aries )
-3R (Mars) opposite Saturn - I don't usually speak what's on my mind, I seem to be more reflexive and not easily jumping into conclusions.
-5R (Mercury) conjunct Mars - definitely like masculine men, as opposed to more efeminate ones.
-5R (Mercury) opposite Pluto - when I like someone, especially in the beginning, I tend to become obsessive.
-6R (Moon) conjunct Neptune- low energy (despite having 7 Fire planets)
-6R (Moon) in Sagittarius - hard to keep diets.
-7R (Moon) conjunct Neptune - very idealistic in relationships
-7R (Moon) sextile Saturn - I prefer stable, long-term relationships to flings
-8R (Mercury) conjunct Sun - fame after death?
-8R (Mercury) conjunct Mars, in Aries - violent death?
-10R (Pluto) conjunct Saturn - slow but steady progress on the socio-professional ladder
-11R (Jupiter) conjunct Uranus - strange and unstable friendships
-12R (Saturn) conjunct Pluto - cruel and despicable enemies.

How about your house rulers?

My Asc is in Capricorn, Ami. So my 1R is Saturn. As for the signs on the cusp, I didn't write down that info because their interpretation is easily accessible.
But here it is:
1st - Capricorn
2nd - Pisces
3rd - Aries
4th - Taurus
5th- Gemini
6th - Cancer
7th - Cancer
8th - Virgo
9th - Libra
10th - Scorpio
11th - Sagittarius
12th - Capricorn

Thank you , Hera

When you said 1Ruler is in Scorpio. HOW would someone have known you were talking about Saturn?
Would they have? Would they need to know it was Saturn to figure the thing out?

I am getting it. Don't despair

Ami, I guess it all started with my Moon-Neptune conjunction, which is the closest aspect in my chart. When I began thinking about this conjunction in terms of rulership, things got a lot clearer for me. It's one thing to say Moon conjunct Neptune and quite another to say ruler of the 6th conjunct Neptune or ruler of the 2nd conjunct ruler of DC. Especially in tight conjunctions, if feels like the planet in conjunction to the ruler exerts a big influence on the house, almost as if it were in that house.
I'm not particularly interested in what planet rules the house, but in its position and aspects to other planets and rulers and the influence this has on one's life.

HEra,

to make it even more interesting (some would say complicated), you should also look into aspects between houserulers.

Mine are:

Ruler 1 (Jupiter) in 3 squares ruler 3 (Neptune) in 1
My essential Self (1st house) and my way to communicate (3rd house) are inseparably entwined (mutual reception of the rulers), yet there is some considerable friction in the way I express myself verbally and nonverbally. Maybe my words (3rd house) are not always in harmony with my nonverbal selfexpression (1st house).

Ruler 3 (Neptune) conjuncts ruler 4 (Mars)
Ruler 4 (Mars) conjuncts ASC
Ruler 3(Neptune) conjunct ASC
my Way of communicating / thinking and my deep emotional core are merged together, which could lead to me only getting awareness into my true emotions, when I talk about them. Or on the other hand rationalizing feelings away.
Of course this explains my love for the written (and spoken) word, too. Writing (3rd house) is fulfilling a very elmentary emotional need (4th house) in me.
Both aspects are a strong part of my essential Self.
If I use them as derived houses, then I can clearly see how strongly my family, my parents(4th house) as well as my brothers (and aunt) (3rd house) are connected to my Self.
They are a fundamental part in forming my identity.
It also means that my physical wellbeing (1st house) can be extremely strongly affected by the way I think or feel, which makes me the perfect candidate for psychosomatic disturbances, especially if considering that the 6th house ruler is in 1st house, too.

Ruler 3 also conjuncts my NN exact, so I guess issues surrounding 3rd house / Gemini / Virgo are a very significant part of my lifepath.
Interestingly Gemini is in my 7th house with its ruler in 1st house.
So another link between the letter 3 in the astrological alphabet (3rd house / Gemini / Mercury) to my Self.
In understanding others I understand myself. Fittingly my Karma as well as Draco Moon are in Gemini.

Ruler of 3 (Neptune) exactly sextiles ruler of 11 and 12 (pluto).
Nice harmonious connection. Gives me probably a rather easy access to my own subconsciousness or at least the ability to communicate dreams and subconscious contents.
Ruler of 3 sextile ruler of 11, is a confirmation of my 3rd house ruler (Uranus) being on the cusp of my 11th house.
There is the definite tendency to "individualize" myself by means of communication.

Ruler of 5 (Venus) squares ruler of 11 and 12 (Pluto).
Falling in love is not an easy thing I guess.

Ruler of 5 is in 1, ruler of 11 and 12 are on the MC in 10th.
A clear conflict between my urge to express myself in ways I want to without compromise, and social demands, that demand exactly that compromise to fit into society.
11th and 12th house are alsot the most "transpersonal" houses, 5th house is a very personal thing. Love and creativity expands the personal sphere I guess.
Ruler of 5 squaring ruler of 12th could also give considerable confusion about love itself.

Emotionally and erotically (5th house is in the emotional personal quadrant) I am drawn to strong, serious personalities (ruler of 5th in Cappy in 1st) and this is how I express my own creativity, in rather structured independent ways.
But something from my subconsciousness, maybe even past lives (12th house) or something that stems from rather unpersonal ideals (11th house) draws me to Libra / 10th house. The famous (10th house) artist (Libra). lol
Maybe it means that I have to make a choice now and then: Either I can have fun (5th house), though most people wouldn`t associate Venus in Cappy with fun I guess. lol, or I can follow my spiritual path (12th house).
Oh no, it is not easy.

Same configuration goes for the 6th house (as Venus rules this, too).
Ruler of 6 squaring ruler of 12th is some sort of tension, that can even have physical effects, usually psychosomatic, especially since 6th house ruler is in 1st house.
My psychological condition definitely having great impact on my physical strength.

Ruler of 7th house (Mercury) conjunct ruler of 9th house (Sun) in 1st house.
I like that one.

Ruler of 8th house (Moon) quinkunx ruler of 2nd house(Saturn), with Moon in 2nd and Saturn in 8th house.

Interesting connection is this one:
Ruler of 10th house (Venus) in Cappy in 1st house squares ruler of 12th house (Pluto) in Libra in 10th house, actually conjunct MC.
A strong interconnection of Saturn-Venus or Libra-Cappy.
I am called (10th house) to form and express my own Self (1st house), but at the same time ther eis this subconscious urge (12th house) that pushes me into a somewhat public status.

But having said that I start considering to only use the planets up to Saturn as houserulers because of the wide variety of Plutinos, would they all rule Scorpio?

If I use only the ancient rulers, the image is slightly different.

Ruler 1 widely trine ruler 2 and 3.
Another connection between 1st and 3rd house.

Ruler 2 widely trine ruler 3.
I probably could make a living from communication. Well, in some way I do. lol

Ruler 3 quinkunx ruler 8.

ruler 11 and 12 would be Mars then, and Mars is in 12th house on the ASC.
Would create a strong connection between my essential Self and subconscious issues, certainly makes sense, given the easy access I have to dreams.

OK DD---You NAME the rulers. You have to know this in order to do this---I assume.
I mean you just can't say one house ruler conjuncts another without knowing what they are---right?

It seems like a lot of it is just your OWN interpretations and your own trying to fit pieces --together---right?

I am gonna come back and forth slowing, add some of my own and see if I can figure it out

Right.

So, look what sign your 1st house is in.
(my chart: Sagittarius).

Check what planet rules that sign
(my chart: Jupiter = so Jupiter is the ruler of the 1st house).

All aspects Jupiter has to other planets will effect the 1st house big time, though Jupiter is in Pisces in 3rd house in my chart.
This is written as Jupiter as ruler of 1st house is in Pisces in 3rd house.
The issues of the origin-house (1st house) will be expressed on the house the planet actually is in, or we could also say that the owner USES the qualities of th house he is being in to the PURPOSE of the origin-house.

1st house: Self-expression, physicality, appearance, and so on

3rd house: communication, way of thinking or speaking or talking, brothers and sisters.

So Jupiter is in the 3rd house and is coming from the 1st house.
So my use of communication (3rd house) serves the purpose of expressing mySelf (1st house) or my Self expression (1st house) happens through communication (3rd house).
How does it happen now exactly?
Since the planet is Jupiter and it is in Pisces, this tells us a lot about how I communicate myself, in a Neptune-Jupiter-way, without end.
Dreamy, idealistic, sometimes confusing, with much imagination and fantasy, and always in expansive ways (just check the length of my post lol).

Anyway this Jupiter, which is there for my selfexpression, has aspects to other planets.
It has a nearly exact square to Neptune.
Now let`s see where Pisces is, as Neptune rules Pisces.
Pisces is intercepted in my 3rd house, and Neptune as its ruler is in Sagittarius in 1st house.
So the ruler of my 1st house (Jupiter) is in 3rd house, and the ruler of my 3rd house (Neptune) is in 1st house (Sag), in conjunction with my ASC.
In my case this is a closed circuit, a mutual exchange of 1st and 3rd house, which makes the connection between SElf and communication very strong.
Means also that I probably express myself best verbally, through writing or speaking.
I guess, if I wrote a book, I should try out the fantasy genre (3rd house: books; Jupiter in Pisces: fantasy genre). lol

I am gonna try to do house rulerships.

Tell me what you think,please

I have a Scorpio ASC so Pluto/Mars rules Scorpio
Pluto conjuncts the MC
I am very concerned with my reputation
I ,always, have been from the time I was in high school

Mars is in the 9th house
My favorite things are 9th house activities-studying new things and traveling in my mind, only .
Cancer is on the 9th house cusp.
That must be why I like to travel from home ,arm chair traveler ,you could call it

Go, Ami!! Very nice! I'm sorry, I didn't realize I was confusing you with this technique, because I skipped a step (saying who the ruler was). What I am trying to get from this discussion is how the house it's affected. Like DD said, you take one ruler of a house - say Asc - and you look at all it is doing: what sign is it in? what house? what planets modify its energy, and what houses does that energy come from? All this information goes back into your first house, like puzzle pieces.
So let's take Pluto, your Asc ruler. Is your Pluto in Leo? Does Leo influence your self-expression (1st house) in some way? You said it conjuncts the MC. I think that is a great aspect, it connects your 1st house with your career and your influence on this world. I have a similar thing (in my case it conjuncts MC ruler) and you could say I identify with my career. Do you feel the same way?
Does the conjunction happen from the 9th house or the 10th? What other aspects does Pluto make?

DD,
Very thorough analysis! But then again I would expect that of you.

quote:
Ruler 1 (Jupiter) in 3 squares ruler 3 (Neptune) in 1
My essential Self (1st house) and my way to communicate (3rd house) are inseparably entwined (mutual reception of the rulers), yet there is some considerable friction in the way I express myself verbally and nonverbally. Maybe my words (3rd house) are not always in harmony with my nonverbal selfexpression (1st house).

This is so very interesting! You have this huge Neptunian/Piscean influence on your 1st house. Your 1R is in Pisces, it squares Neptune, which is in your 1st. I think it makes you look Piscean, I told you this before (that you strike me as Pisces). You always seem so calm and soothing and understanding, yet you come from a rational perspective (Jupiter in the 3rd, ruler of the 3rd in the 1st house). I think this manifestation is absolutely fantastic. The square between Jupiter and Neptune, in my opinion, becomes less of a problem for you because your 1st and your 3rd house are so nicely connected.

quote:
Ruler 3 (Neptune) conjuncts ruler 4 (Mars)

Though I think it is interesting to look at aspects between rulers, I find it more interesting to look at this from the house perspective. Like, in this case, do you think Mars influences your 3rd house? Do you talk or walk or drive fast? Does it make you a bit impulsive in 3rd house matters? Neptune is in Sagittarius, a fire sign, this also adds to the 3rd. How about Neptune influencing your 4th house? Do you feel that?
quote:

Thank you for explaining this so clearly for me. It makes a lot of sense.

quote:
Ruler of 3 (Neptune) exactly sextiles ruler of 11 and 12 (pluto).

How do you feel about Pluto's influence on your 3rd house? And Neptune's on the 11th and 12th? Does it make it easier to access these transpersonal houses with Neptune's ability to erase boundaries?

quote:
Ruler of 5 (Venus) squares ruler of 11 and 12 (Pluto).
Falling in love is not an easy thing I guess.

Hehehe, no, it's not. It's a very scary thing. Is Pluto influencing your 5th house? Do you become passionate, obsessive even, about your creative pursuits or romances? What about Venus and your 11th and 12th houses? Lots of female friends, lots of artist friends. Secret love affairs?
quote:
A clear conflict between my urge to express myself in ways I want to without compromise, and social demands, that demand exactly that compromise to fit into society.

Could you explain this a bit more? Venus also rules your MC. Pluto conjuncts your MC, but squares its ruler... How does all that manifest in your life? Do you choose compromise over your desires, because your MC ruler and Pluto's depositor are in Capricorn?
quote:
But something from my subconsciousness, maybe even past lives (12th house) or something that stems from rather unpersonal ideals (11th house) draws me to Libra / 10th house. The famous (10th house) artist (Libra). lol

That was beautiful. BTW, I think you definitely might have past life connections with those artist. Do you think maybe you were one, in a previous life and this might be why you are so drawn to them (12th ruler in Libra, on MC, squaring Venus)?

quote:
Ruler of 7th house (Mercury) conjunct ruler of 9th house (Sun) in 1st house.

I like this one, too. I have ruler of the 5th (Mercury) conjunct Sun. Do you feel the Sun's influence on your 7th? I guess I can feel it. Being in love makes me all sunny and happy lol, but then again, this is true for everybody. But it really lights up my life. Do you like foreigners?

quote:
Ruler of 8th house (Moon) quinkunx ruler of 2nd house(Saturn), with Moon in 2nd and Saturn in 8th house.

You have really nice mutual house receptions (if I can call them that). What does it say about you to have your 8th house ruler in Aquarius, in the 2nd, quincunx Saturn, ruler of the 2nd?

I feel that, especially with tight aspects (conjunctions), somehow the planet the house ruler touches becomes a part of the house. Like with my exact Moon-Neptune conjunction (Moon rules the 6th and 7th, Neptune rules the 2nd), I feel as if Neptune WERE in my 6th and 7th, and Moon in my 2nd. The interpretations for those describe me quite accurately. Seems like you have company in the psychosomatic club, DD!
Does this make any sense to you?

Thanks for asking about my Pluto, Hera
I will try to explain using house rulerships. See what you think.

I am a Scorp ASC, as I said. Pluto conjuncts the MC.
Seriously, if I ever had a scandal, I would die.
I hate to think that I look bad

Pluto is in the 10th house in Leo. Maybe,Leo makes me so conscious of my reputation.
Pluto sextiles Gemini Sun and Gemini Mercury in the 8th house.
I MUST resolve 8th house issues. I have a passion to get to the bottom of things I don't understand about myself
Then, I will be able to stand on solid ground ,emotionally.

Pluto powers my Sun and Mercury to dig in to 8th house issues.

Pluto trines the NN in Sag. Pluto gives me power to meet my goals.
I have met goals I have set.I did not realize that Pluto gave me strength.

Is my THINKING/processing the information on house rulerships---correct?

No idea.

Anyway, one of the important things in that post were about the difference of houseruler in aspect to planets / or houserulers.

I think both are important, probably equally, but there is a difference in their function.

houseruler aspecting houserulers:
they connect two different themes
ex:
5th house ruler aspecting 1st house rulers shows how falling in love / creativity works together with the (physical) Self, and if there is a connection at all.
If there is an aspect it means that the physical aspect probably is important in love, because it gives the owner a feeling of identity. Love and identity is not separabable.

houserulers aspecting planets
indicate the expression of a certain theme.
ex:
ruler of 5th house aspecting Mars
Falling in love / creativity gets a "Martian" note; it indicates someone who is very energetic, enthusiastic, maybe even impulsive when it comes to love.
