I just made the connection between my 12th House Pisces Merc and being 'impressionable' with the fact that I love the Impressionist school of painting the most. http://www.nortonsimon.org/collections/browse_artist.php?name=Gogh%2C+Vincent+van&resultnum=4 This is my favorite painting in the world and it is never photographed to true color! I stand breathless infront of it whenever I go to see it..I used to think I could not paint when I was younger because I compared my paintings with those of my Grandmother. She was/is a classical painter (Libra influences). I got frustrated with not being able to reconcile the 'real' look with what I wanted to express. I also got frustrated because the water color paint did not feel relevant to the things I was trying to paint in all their 3D, multi-texturedness (ok maybe a little Taurus Mars in that last part lol). I later discovered Van Gogh and Impressionism and I really did shed some tears because I found that I COULD paint and that what I needed to express was relevant too in this medium. As far as the combining of Venus (mine in Aqua) and Mercury, I am also taken by Surrealism. I love the freedom and openness of it and also the way it is still personal and romantic. I especially like a newer Surrealist (I read somewhere that he is an Aquarius, however he is currently having an exhibit called 'Aries the Ram'), Vladimir Kush. He hits the pisces/aqua-ness of me PERFECTLY!!! OHH! http://vladimirkush.com/Originals-Available/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=600%3Adeparture-of-the-winged-ship While I have noticed that alot of the PAINTERS I like have aries/pisces placements (I am pisces/aries sun aries rising), when it comes to SCHOOLS of art I think maybe the connection to the preferred style is drawn from one's Mercury and Venus a little more..
What do you guys like? ------------------ "You may say that I'm a dreamer but I'm not the only one..." IP: Logged |

I can see that making sense with you merc and venus. Aries would like the attention on lone solitary portraits. It places great personal attention on one hand onto the artist and how the artist views that person. This ends up being the way much of the world views that person (Mona Lisa, anyone) The sculptures DEFINITELY makes sense with the Venus and Taurus. (I get this enough from my mars in Taurus) Sculptures are somewhat more tangible and durable than paintings and you can PHYSICALLY enjoy them. (I am guilty of sneaking touches of Degas statues lol Heey, the guy leaves fingerprints in his work -he's practically taunting you to feel it! lol) I see the Venus in Taurus stringly in Religious art because, to me, Religious paintings are so PHYSICAL. You know, so sinewy and muscular. They are very much studies on the human form. My fav 'Religious' (now considered Mythical I guess) painting: http://www.getty.edu/art/gettyguide/artObjectDetails?artobj=584 The first thing I thought of when I saw your merc and venus combination here is this bust I saw at the Getty: http://www.getty.edu/art/gettyguide/artObjectDetails?artobj=1390 In person it is phenomenal esp. compared to the alot of the other (drab-er) busts. This one really is a portrait and dialogue of how the artist felt and viewed the subject and it is a window into the persona. I also has so much more 'touchablility' then other busts I saw. (I didn't get to touch this one, though because the security guard was right there! :-( ------------------ "You may say that I'm a dreamer but I'm not the only one..." IP: Logged |

i love art, its been apart of my life since as long as i can remember. my mom is a graphic designer, her brother (my uncle) is also a graphic designer, and their other brother (my other uncle hehe) owns a tattoo shop in asia. on my dads side my auntie taught me caligraphy when i was 8 and always did crafts with me like mosaics. my other aunt blows glass and my g-pa use to do lapidary/cut stones and make jewelry/silversmithing. im very crafty, i enjoy silversmithing as well, wire wrapping, and collage stuff. but i also LOVE to draw, since the beginning of my exhistance haha. i do enjoy to paint, very much, manipulating paint is definitely really interesting. i love charcoal on large scale drawings just cause its a PAIN with graphite. soo personally, when its myself making something, i really enjoy still life-particularly anatomy like bones, skulls, skeletons, animals and i enjoy sketching people. more so body contours than faces.. but i love to draw eyes. its either that or the complete opposite surrealism. wierd creatures, textures, nature incorperated, symbols, and typically fairly colorful but when im in the mood i get some pretty dark and morbid creations too. i love cartoon drawings too, just little doodles are awesome with other artists ii love surrealist art. im not very limited to any medium but there are some styles i LOOOVE. my room is covered in artists that i adore. im not sure ive found a pattern in sign either.. mercury-virgo/libra cusp conjunct sun/mars in libra venus-scorpio conjunct pluto venus is my chart ruler, rising and sun ill post some of my favos IP: Logged |

i have a lot of gemini in me mercury being one of them i have aries venus thoughi need the art to be intelecutally stimulating i need it to generate a lot of questions this is why i like abstract art you're left to figure out so much on your own. i also find messy things really hit me hard sometimes (never thought about it, but i'm guess that could be explained by my venus in aries... just did a random search...i kinda like this but usually messier....more passionate... i guess venus aries is action....so brush strokes (action) mean something to me ie. was the brush used softly, was it pressed hard, etc harder is usually better, more emotional.... lol interesting topic though IP: Logged |

When I was reading your post I just KNEW you were going to day Virgo! You just reminded me of my mothet's Virgoan creative energy. She would never see how creative she was when I was growing up, but I thought that she had such a comforting way of making her artistic expressions integrateable with everday life! Also, I thought the anatomy and boned wad very Virgoan as Virgo rules health care. I know my friend with virgo rising is very into that stuff (she's in nursing, too) I see the link with scorpio influence tying in with virgo giving you a like for the warped and 'disfigured' bodies of surrealism. Makes sense to me lol

haha thats funny, i can see how the virgo/scorpio tie together too! im a big time perfectionist. ive learn to let go a lot and that nothing is perfect haha but im also a virgo moon and my sun/mars/merc are in the 6th house tehe. ive noticed how creative virgo can be, my dad is a virgo and some of the things he comes up with is surpisingly inventive, and i know a lot of virgo artists/friends and they are really good/creative. i dont think virgo gets enough credit in that field. maybe its that virgo modesty that has a hard time acknowledging that creative energy since the sign is sort of hard on itself. id love to see your momma's work of arts IP: Logged |

all the gemini plus that sag do show in the art you chose, very scattered and restless! i have neptune in capricorn too, but i think its influence would be a lot more strongly felt through the aspects it makes with the other planets. same with the moon. but i agree on the influence of the moon and neptune. when they aspect each other its known to generate a lot of creativity and imagination and being a very good outlet for some form of art. i think that rings true for a lot of the neptune aspects that are made with the personal planets and the ascendent as well.

My mercury and venus are both in gemini, and they are conjunct each other. As far as art goes. My favorite style is surrealism. I do like when it has crossovers however. I like anything that is "realistic with twists in reality thrown in". These will highlight my artistic style that I am drawn to:
This one is around 3000 pixels so I am hyperlinking it instead This is a music video, but it is completely art to me. The entire band/project is very focused on it. It also highlights my style a ton ------------------ It's All Elemental ----- My Chart if relevant IP: Logged |

Mercury and Venus,as to the technique and style, are good indicators. But,if you look at the artist in comparison, you'd sooner find Sun.(starting point)MC Cancer Venus sextile H12 Virgo Mercury,I like art deco, expressionism(Cancer Venus); Caravaggio...artists that are essentially good at drawing-Di Vinci,Goya (Virgo Merc). Hmmm... I have Mercury in Libra in my 9H and Venus in Virgo in my 8H. Growing up I loved fashion, still do. My preference goes back and forth between Bohemian hippie, Bohemian goth, and lazy comfort. I've kept a high price catalog for over ten years because I still love the clothes they were selling for that season. I also like literature and art that is considered dark and a bit taboo. For instance, I can't get enough of Edward Gorey's illustrations. Even have the Gashlycrumb Tinies and can't wait to pass it on to my own kids, if I have any. IP: Logged |

artwork that can push the boundaries of reality and the tangible are amazing, thats what makes art so fascinating. being able to create whats so unique in an individuals mind. take alexander grey for example, he does a perfect job incorperating a visual on spiritual energies and chakras and symbols. i really enjoy seeing the talent in drawings/paintings that are practically like a photograph, but it takes a lot more to be able to construct a visually appealing peace of artwork without having to look at anything else. when theres talent like that why not push it to its farthest boundaries? I agree! Virgos (that I've known -aka ALOT lol) have such an earthy, live-able artisticness that they quite often seem oblivious to or that they downplay and are shy about. Actually, one of my favorite things about being friends/close with virgos is to cross that opposing bridge and meet each other half way at this 'ralistic fairyland'. When I was younger I could play music by ear but I was also overwhelmed by alot I wanted to express and which medium I should use. My lil brother (Virgo) would yell from his room "Come on Sis, play the piano -I'll play the drums for you and you can sing!" He was the first one to want to hear my music outside of me and he was able to help it out and 'ground' me. He is also easily talented in ANYthing he tries! My mother is shy like that BIG time. She would always compare her creativity with that of me (pisces sun/merc), my sister (aries sun) and my grandma (libra). Growing up she did not think that things that she did were creative or artistic compared to my grandma and my aunt and later compared to us kids. We all played instruments self-taught and did all sorts of art mediums and writing, etc. Yet I constantly tried to point out how she was creative and artistic in everything she did. Dressing, home decor, storytelling -life in general she taught us to see vividly and inspirationally. From little things like her keeping her own coloring books and secret 'design' notebooks that contained her clothing and jewelry ideas to major home renovations and design. The reason us kids are so creative and artistic is because she really nurtured our confidence that we are innately and uniquely talented and that we should be humble but proud of it. Not once in our childhood were we told we could not create something that we dreamt up. NEVER. In true Virgo sun, Aries Moon fashion my mom would say "Write it down! Remember it! Don't tell everybody and when you can one day COPYRIGHT it -you can really do that someday. You could be the first to do that! You could make money off of that!" So yeah for all her faults (I have scorpmoon conjunct pluto opposed mars for crying out loud) THAT aspect of creativity and artistic vision and support was absolutely priceless!! Right now she is back to school for fashion/jewelry design and starting her own business. She was going into cosmetology until she got pregnant with me young. We are out of contact but I am so proud of her for that ^.^ Oh yeah, She is also a 12th house Neptune. ------------------ "You may say that I'm a dreamer but I'm not the only one..." IP: Logged |
