Is it about Mercury/Neptune connections or something? Has anyone taken a look on patterns that indicate that a person would be a great writer?

now, take this with a grain of salt--I'm incredibly new to this and this really is just something I read the other day when I was delving into my own chart--but I think a moon-neptune conj. can sometimes spur people to write.

Correct me if I'm wrong

Practice and reading a lot. I'm a English major and writing well didn't come naturally it was a learned process. But lots of free writing helps.

The general consensus seems to be prominent Gemini/Virgo (esp. on the MC), a well placed Mercury, and prominent Neptune/Venus (or Mars in the case of F. Scott Fitzgerald)

I've got Pisces Moon in the 3rd and Aries Mars there as well. Sun is conjunct mercury in Leo, I have Venus and Jupiter in Gemini. Jupiter is my chart ruler and mercury is also trine Mars, sextile Jupiter and square Pluto. Lots of activating aspects on my Mercury, but the fact the Moon is in the 3 rd thought patterns often get convuluded while writing. I'd say I'm a good writer more or less.

Mercury conjunct Galactic Center? Lol that's pretty much the only "good" writing aspect I have. Edit: (pluto in Scorpio and moon in Sag 5th house, mercury in Sag 6th house)

I'm a Journalism/International Relations major and I love writing and have been told I'm good at it, but I have an empty 3rd house, and no planets in Gemini. My mercury is unaspected except for minor aspects. There was a thread in Personal Readings a while ago about someone who wanted to be a professional writer and there was a list of asteroids to look at regarding writing skills but I can't remember any of them but will come back to post the link if I find it lol

Planets in 3rd, in 9th (for success in publishing), influence in mutable signs
(Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius or Pisces). Especially Moon.
3rd and 9th should switch rulers.
Planets in 5th house for creativity talents. Planets in 10th house for popularity.
Ruler of 3rd or 9th should go in 2nd or 8th house for money.

Writing is like everything else. People can have a natural talent for writing. The fundamental groundwork for writing well though comes from good literary knowledge. Whether that is in speaking to a lot of different people or reading a lot of different material. Some people may absorb how material is written and naturally incorporate it into their style or understand how to frame such things.

Things such as writing emails or letters either come with practice, or it is something that you pick up naturally.

I'd say I write songs poems, and just things in general. In truth its more like doodling, albeit doodling for those who are not illustratively inclined. I've been told I write beautifully, which is a pretty nice compliment. I just write from my heart and mind which happens to be best focused on emotional things. All I want is to communicate with people, to be able to write in such a way that they understand what went into the words and hopefully get them to relate to it or feel something, however fleeting the emotion, of what I felt when I wrote it.

Ultimately what matters most in writing, is getting other people to care. Depending on what you want of course. If you can write in such a way as to get people to care, whether it is a fictional story, an emotional piece, or anything really. Getting people to care is how you get to be considered a good writer.

You can learn things, like meters, rhymes, literary techniques like assonance, dissonance, harmony, syllable timing, alliteration, how to structure verses or sentences for different effects.

This allows people to read something and deconstruct it. I don't rightly know, but these days I would think most English courses are aimed more at educating people to deconstruct literary pieces, rather than to help them construct their own.

What makes a good writer astrologically? Tough question, i'm sure you can look at the charts of many people considered talented writers and you will see a whole host of different things. Most simply I would imagine any kind of aspects between Moon, Mercury and Mars. How you feel, how you think, and how you express yourself.
Other things will have an impact but that seems a good groundwork to go from.

I've got my moon in pisces in the third. I also have a stellium in my tenth - Ever since I can remember I've been passionate about writing (but horrible with grammar ). When I was young, my plays and poems would always win whatever contest I entered them in. As an adult, I seem to have come down w/ severe writers block. Unless I'm ending a bad relationship - then the words flow like crazy. Eh, happy people have no stories, right?

You are more right than you know...

Misery loves company, more than one, more than two, hopefully more than three.
Thinking about it, there are a lot of people out there who are unhappy or dissatisfied with something. People always feel like they are missing something.

Look at aspects between planets in 3rd and 9th houses, not to mention aspects to their rulers. Dickens is a great example of this. If you just looked at his mercury, it's not that strongly aspected. But if you look at his venus and pluto, which rule the 3rd and 9th, they're in conjunction on his descendant, and squaring the midheaven, plus his moon is conjunct neptune in the 3rd. Aspects are usually the best indicator of talents or whatever you're looking for.

An unencumbered Mercury that has good aspects with two or more planets helps a lot.

Knowledge of good writing structure helps, otherwise, know a good editor/publisher who likes your work.

If the person is writing for the purpose of being read by the public then the condition of the 3rd & 9th: 7, 10 & 11 houses should be taken into account. In addition, the planets Sun, Mercury, Jupiter and, Pluto aspects between themselves and with the North Node should be taken into account, as these elements deal with the public at large too.

A well aspected twelfth house suggest that the person can work alone, well, in order to prepare his/her work for presentation later.

Personal note:
I deal with viewing transits in an unorthodox way. I view transits in a vertical position rather than through the pie chart. My method shows that if the Mercury aspects are position before favorable aspects made to Sun, Venus, Jupiter, Saturn and/or, Pluto: the chances for success are greater because the preliminary thought processes have first been applied and the action taken is second to the first.

I've been told several times by different astrologers that I have a great chart to be a writer. I don't like to write but whenever I have to, it's really easy for me to do and people seem to like it.

Mercury in Gemini (2nd house)
North Node in Gemini
Moon in 9th house
Mercury sextile Venus
Mercury trine Midheaven
Venus in 3rd
Venus trine Neptune
2nd House in Gemini

Along time ago I read an article on writers and I wish I could find it. But they said aspects to Mercury could tell you what kind of writing a person would be good at. Like Mars aspects to Mercury (war stories/Romance) Uranus (Science Fiction) etc.

Mercury making strong aspects to multiple other planets, but look at the overall tone of the chart too. If the chart is too energized - kinesthetic - a person won't use their Mercury aspects to write, but more to talk/ambulate.

Love of words and a more cerebral, contemplative chart that lets Mercury express quietly rather than just verbally. In other words the ability to concentrate.
3rd-9th planets or Interceptions.

All signs can be involved.

I'm a good writer, have been writing songs and poetry since age 14. I was born with Mercury conjunct Venus (orb 6+) in 9th house with both trine Pluto and opposite Neptune in 3rd house. Virgo rising helps to give a contemplative, analytical context.

Friends and family have complimented my poetry, one calling it "soul shaking."
