they kinda are though.... it's always something with them and you can't really blame them which is apart of their charm. Seems like their mistakes usually have grave consequences.

^
I guess in your case you have Cap moon soo there you go!
you should enjoy stability lol

Well who are they going to take their destructive energy out on? You?

You didn't do anything to deserve that.

Maybe some are but even more are not. Pisces is misunderstood. From my experience they are kinda like the sign that has it all. I guess I know the best of them, because I never notice anything self destructive or at least no more than others and they often have tremendous intelligence to help them out in life and are great at figuring out how to get what they need from the world. The ones I know are better equipped for making it in the world than the average person. Two of them have post grad degrees. Hmm doesn't sound that self destructive. I am Virgo and I don't have one.

You're right, Pisces do seem to have it all. They are often beautiful regardless of shape or ability. Even their gentleman/lady-bits are often attractive. They are insanely resourceful, they tend to know how to fit right into any situation, and are often willing to help with an open heart. In an ideal world, they are the least judgmental, vindictive, self-serving, or malicious sign of the entire zodiac. ALL that, and they also get the benefit of Jupiter's luck on their side.

The waters of Pisces run deep. I know many who can function superbly in the world, but what happens inside is a completely different beast. Don't get me wrong. I love me some Pisces people, their external success is rarely an indicator of their internal situation though.

Pisces and Virgo are two sides of the same coin. Just as Virgo is often refining itself and seeking to be a helpful force, Pisces is known to tear itself down and shoulder the energetic burdens of others. Just as Virgo wouldn't offer help and then mess everything up after they finish, it seems somewhat counterproductive to a Pisces's nature to shoulder the weight of the world and then turn around to inflict their burdens on others. Instead, they weave a pretty, stable, and well established picture on the outside, saving others from all the negativity they have absorbed on their travels.

At high vibrations Pisces are Sin Eaters. The word "Guru" in Sanskrit also expresses this nature in Pisces. They take darkness and transform it into light. But those who don't know it is within their ability to transform the energy, just become bulging blisters of negative energy. And because their capacity is infinite, they can keep bulging and bulging. The same thing can happen to Virgo, they offer so much of their selves they eventually make their selves sick and even if their health remains, giving too much of their resources can manifest neurologically.

Well I have never met such a Pisces sun type before. The ones I have in my life have been so perfect it's hard not to be a bit jealous of them. They really have it together. Although it sounds negative, I would call them the ultimate system workers but I don't mean this in a negative way. It just describes them well. They can figure out how to bring situations to their advantage and are actually well above survival and into the higher realms of existence. Not self destructive at all. Keep in mine ANYONE can be self destructive if they are in a bad mental frame of mind, not just Pisces. Pisces is actually a little less prone, on average. Yes, they struggle with some difficulties but so does every member of every sign. No one is immune to troubles. Everyone feels inner turmoil from time to time. Pisces gets a bad, undeserved rap at times when they are actually far more capable than the other signs to make something out of their lives that goes beyond mere survival.

Because they get off on pain. Anything else is boring to them, they don't want what's good for them.

If pisces isn't self-destructive then why is it the number one sign in astrology for substance abuse and addiction

That's true also but it's slightly different. It's about the Neptunian desire to "escape" - they just usually pick the wrong means - drugs - to do it because...they get off on pain lmao. They aren't going to go make handwoven handicrafts for catharsis.

The one way to find out is go to a bar and look at the regular alcoholic bar flies. How many have Pisces sun? I bet many don't.

My mom and dad both have substance abuse issues neither have sun in Pisces. My Aunt and grandmother, both Pisces suns, no substance abuse issues. I do not know one alcoholic Pisces and alcoholics always seem to find me in a crowd. None of them have been Pisces.

^ Is it? Well hey, drugs can be a learning experience.

Two of my longtime best friends are Pisces, so is my sister-in-law, uncle, dentist, most of my husbands' friends...none are addicts. Most of these people are well-adjusted, financially successful, and on top of their game.

The main thing about ALL Pisces I know is that they love music. You think they are no-nonsense types...then you hear they've invested a huge amount of money on their CD collection, stereo equipment, musical instruments, etcetera. Music is medicine to them. And they wouldn't need all that medicine if they weren't in pain or trying to sublimate the pain they absorb from the people they interact with.

I've seen even the toughest Pisces guys tear up when other men wouldn't. Maybe it's more like, with the more evolved Pisces, they've already been destroyed... and rebuilt themselves? Because there is both fracture/destruction and integrity there.

Maybe the ones who seem to be destroying themselves are just breaking down into parts so they can reassemble themselves more to their liking.

What good is it if you end up in a grave. It's weird to me the way people try to make light of stuff like that, and I don't really believe you have to go through some traumatic stuff or do something that's dangerous to yourself in order to learn anything, whoever thought that concept up must be a little slow and missing a few turnips from the truck.

No doubt there are Pisces sun people with these addictions just as there are other suns with similar problems. I always see drunks when I go out. Drunks are everywhere. It's just part of the human condition.
And pill poppers. Something like 1 out of 3 people in my state are. That's an awful lot of Pisces suns!

Because other people are not appreciative of there compassion, which then turns to being a self-defeatist, i think the key for Pisces is to lead a spiritual life or just stay naturally pure and healthy..

That doesn't even make sense. There's plenty of people others beg as "compassionate" (whether they are or not is up for debate but I digress), who are extremely self-defeatist, sitting on their fat butts all day getting high and babbling nonsensically instead of getting up and doing something with their waste of a life, and every other possible combination under the sun. Generalizing is never a good idea and always has a way of proving a person has not the first clue what they are talking about whatsoever, no matter how much they try to fool themselves and the rest of the world into thinking so using enigmatic phrasing and cryptic words.

"Why are Pisces self destructive?
The astrological principle of Pisces is described as the Social Survival Dynamic. Basically, Pisces is concerned with fitting into society, with the survival of the weak and imperfect. (Virgo, opposite, will spot and fix the imperfections) Pisces will feel compassion for all those suffering and will feel suffering of mass consciousness without realizing it most of the time. They hurt all the time because humans are hurting all the time. The ills of society are so prevalent and Pisces are innately aware of this.

When facing the realities of existence one can choose to either escape or to make sacred their life on earth. (Sacrifice is associated with Pisces, and sacrifice does not mean to give up anything for someone else, it comes from the word sacred and means "to make sacred" their lives here on earth. Sacredness is knowing that everything that is created is good and worthy of existence and has a place on earth.

Asteroid Karma placement in Pisces is about self-mastery., which may show up more as self destructive behavior than Pisces Sun.

I am a sixth house Venus in Pisces and I enjoy inequality in my romantic relationships. I do drugs to help with my spiritual path but I am not addicted. Drugs basically project all the dreams and visions in my head into things that are pretty much tangible. Like Faith said, they teach lessons. Sometimes Pisces can't distinguish reality from fantasy without some sort of assistance. Pisces also need people.

I feel that Pisces have a special spiritual connection. We can easily tune into our "psychic power" without asking !

I died and came back to life on January 4, 2013 @ 10:30am in Houston, TX. Now I'm a Capricorn with a Libra moon. I have a Pisces ascendant & a Pisces in Neptune. Have I become a phychic? ESP big time. I was born on 4/14/1984 @ 1:06pm in Katy, TX. I was born on a full moon with an Aries sun sign & a moon in Libra & a Leo ascendant so I still have a Libra moon but did God give me psychic abilities when I was reborn?

The original post did not ask why Pisces is the only self-destructive sign of the zodiac. It didn't ask why all Pisces traits lead to personal ruin. RAS just asked why Pisces are self-destructive.

It's interesting how many people run to the aid of Pisces to shield it from its attackers. In fact, it's sort of an indication at how good Pisces is at doing what it does. I'm not going to go down the list again of wonderful things Pisces has going for it, because I already did that (scroll up for more Piscean petting). I think RAS has a valid question and it is important when looking at signs, that we embrace the great and not-so-great in order to get a complete understanding.

Just because we know Pisces people who don't seem to have self-destructive tendencies, doesn't mean these people are avatars of their Sun sign. Pisces as an archetype does have a predisposition toward self dissolution and destruction. It's the finale of the zodiac wheel; the time when the cycle ends and the self-structure built from Aries up is melted down for recycling. It's ruled by the planet responsible for dissolving structures (constructively and destructively).

If we can devote threads to Cancer, Sag, and Aquarius being generally horrible, then Pisces can stand to have some light shined into their pockets. As a Gemini friend said once, "Pisces are so pretty in their bowls, but take them out and they start to stink". =)
