For Cecil isn’t just any old lion. He’s one of Africa most famous and beloved lions, the star attraction at the Hwange national park, and a YouTube sensation for tourists.

He’s renowned as a gentle giant.

Such popularity cut no ice with Dr Palmer.

He and his fellow hunters tied a dead animal to their vehicle to lure Cecil out of the park, scenting an area half a kilometre away.

Cecil took the bait and strayed outside.

Dr Palmer pounced, firing his bow-and-arrow and striking Cecil.

He’s a great shot.

A New York Times profile of him in 2009 said he was ‘capable of skewering a playing card from 100 yards with his compound bow.’

But Cecil didn’t die.

Instead, he stumbled off, wounded and bloodied, for 40 hours before Dr Palmer and his hunters finally caught up with him and shot him dead.

They then beheaded Cecil, and skinned him, before leaving his rotting carcass lying outside the park.

There was no report on whether Cecil died with a ‘dazzling smile’ on his face, but it’s probably safe to assume he didn’t.

As a result of his death though, conservation experts say it is now highly likely that all Cecil’s recently born cubs will now be killed by the next lion in the hierarchy, Jericho – so that he can insert his own bloodline into the females.

BTW, this...I-have-no-name-for-him's dilemma for being into big game "hunting" ( I hope everyone knows this is no hunting; the state-of-the-art guns can be used by a 5y old and the "game" is practically "positioned" for these pathetic excuses for a human being - I guess I did find a name for him after all - to just shoot):

He is born in 1960, but I couldn't find his DOB.

Dentist who killed Cecil the lion faces backlash, expresses regret 2:14

The American dentist who killed a well-known lion in Zimbabwe also has a felony record over the hunting of black bear in Wisconsin, court documents show.

Walter James Palmer sparked outrage when it emerged he killed Cecil the lion, a local tourist favorite who had been collared as part of an Oxford University research project.

The Minnesota-based dentist said he had the correct permits to hunt and kill the animal earlier this month. But the two people he hired to lure the lion to its death have been charged with breaching hunting quotas and were due in court Wednesday.

Following the incident, court documents emerged showing Palmer was fined $3,000 and given a year's probation after pleading guilty over the illegal killing of a black bear in Wisconsin in 2006.

Palmer had a permit to hunt bears within a certain area near Phillips, in the north of the state. But on September 1, 2006, he was part of a group of people who killed a black bear 40 miles outside this permitted zone, according to the court documents from April 2008.

Realizing what they had done, the group agreed that "if any authorities were to ask where the bear had been killed, they would say" it was hunted within the correct area, the documents added.

They transported the carcass to a registration station where they certified the animal had been killed legally, the documents said, adding that the body was later taken to Minnesota, where Palmer lives.

Palmer was charged with knowingly making false statement to an agent of the Department of the Interior, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, having "falsely stated that he thought the bear had been killed legally" during interviews with officials the next month.

According The Associated Press, citing the Minnesota Board of Dentistry, the dentist was also the subject of a sexual harassment complaint settled in 2006. He admitting no wrongdoing and agreed to pay a former receptionist more than $127,000, the AP said.

Personally, I think these people are closet sociopaths and if hunting humans were legal, they would probably be the first to enroll.

Ugh, this dentist is not very good at all!! Worst dental experience EVER!!!!

First, without any warning, he shot me with a bow and arrow. Then he just let me sit there for 40 hours in pain as I bled out.....no sedatives, nothing (Damn, I thought dentists were good at administering pain meds!!)

Then to add insult to injury, he had a friend take a picture of my lifeless corpse with him posing above me!!!

Please, by all means, avoid this dentist. Not only does he have terrible aim, but he lacks any bedside manner!! Don't get me started on how much pain he inflicted!!!

No kidding! ISIS is full psychopaths like him.

Here is an interesting tidbit. No matter when in January he was born, on July 1, 2015 when he killed Cecil, t-Jupiter was exactly conjunct t-Venus conjunct n-Uranus (1-1.5° orb depending on the exact day). I bet that sadist felt like he won the lottery.

Still, I want to think that in the grand scheme maybe this will have at least some positive impact, in the sense that it will boost the public awareness and help protect the animals.
