Yes some people do that to relief pain...one of my clients does and had a past client who had several friends that did.

I hate that people do this.

I really feel awful for them, and this is such a sick world, that we have people (usually young girls) doing this to themselves.

@DopGang

That person's sun is unaspected save for the quincunx to 3H Mars.

3H - house of Gemini - Gemini ruling the arms, and expression.

So, maybe that person felt so strongly connected to that Mars (because it's the only aspect to the sun) that they poured a lot of expression into it, including pain of course.

The 10H sun is public so the pain also went public.

NN-Chiron in 5H Cancer, again there's a theme of expressive emotion, expressing pain almost as a form of entertainment or creativity, to arrive at that NN-Chiron.

Thanks for the chart! much appreciated I will post the chart of my client as well, time unknown too but there are a few similarities between your friend/acquaintance chart and my client's chart actually, they both potentially have Saturn conjunct Moon for starters and:

Sun semisextilequincux Mars
Sun sesquisquare/semisquare Jupiter
Chiron semisquare/conjunct Southnode

My client says she has a very hard time crying which fits her having moon conjunct saturn, it explains why she self harms to release pain she is unable to via crying.

^When you get a chance would you mind sharing what things helped you stop and transition out of this way of coping...?

I would love to hear what helped you. Thanks!

Also that link brought me to my chart in astro.com....I was like wow her chart looks so similar to mine. Does your moon conjunct saturn?

I used to cut a lot. Now I have the scars on my arm. They have been there for years and I will always be reminded how strong I became and I don't want to ever go through that again. My family , my pets.. Everyone suffered. When you put yourself through that much pain internally it affects others. Every single tbought and action you do affects others whether you realize it or not.. So that's when it's time to say, there are other addictions you can fall into that are less detrimental to your mental/emotional health and that of others

You can turn your pain into passion. You can passionately run for that adrenaline rush. You could go on roller coasters or watch scary movies that scare the **** out of you. You could drink coffee ever so often for that extra energy. You could say something shocking or give someone a wonderful surprise.. Go sky diving, scuba diving, etc

Here's my chart.. (In my signature)

So yeah if anything look at the transiting planets or progressed planets. Not the natal.. Unless they were a cutter their entire life or murdered themselves or something drastic THEN I would look at the charts

DS, So sorry that you went through this. And you've truly become stronger, because you're channeling that energy into positive avenues. Keep at it.

Through what ages did it happen..?

Was there a defining moment or push for it to stop?

I did during my teen years. I haven't since then and have no desire to. However, after I stopped, I had pretty intense bulimia for some years, then I experimented with, and was addicted to drugs.

It's funny though, after I stopped these things, I really had no desire to go back to them. I guess you can say I have an addictive personality, yet quitting things comes easily for me. I literally just kinda forgot about it.

**EDIT**
I went and added the chart with transits. Maybe it was Plutp transiting over my 1H and 12H?? Not sure but that would make sense. There was definitely a transformative element to all of this.

OK this is getting very interesting. All 4 charts I have been able to see posted in this forum including the one I posted have an afflicted MOON.

DS has Moon semisextile Mars and Moon square Saturn, semisextiles are another type of quincux. Her moon therefore is afflicted with both mars and saturn.

aquagembaby same situation moon semisextile mars and moon inconcunct saturn-northnode so her moon is afflicted by two quincux to her mars and saturn.

My client has Moon conjunct saturn and Dejanira! plus inconjunct Pluto and widely square Uranus and Neptune by 7d.

Empty spaces talked about a moon square Pluto exact but did not post chart which perhaps would have given more clues.

DopGang posted a chart with Moon conjunct Saturn and Moon trine Mars.

I feel charts with moon aspect saturn are at risk of this specially in combo with moon aspect mars.

Interesting..What specifically about the Moon/Saturn combo do you believe would cause cutting? Also, do you think this is indicative of cutting, or just all forms of self-harm?

Well specially the Moon aspect saturn in combo with moon aspect mars. My client specifically does not have moon aspect mars but she does have Mars in Aries with Moon conjunct Saturn by 2d.

A planet that aspects hard Saturn or Mars is often said to be afflicted and the moon the planet of emotions meets Saturn which restricts and limits and meets mars which rules aggression, both masculine planets unlike the moon, and the inability to express emotions can turn to self harm; aggression towards the self. Well it increases the chances of the engagement with this type of coping skill. That is what it seems so far based on the limited data collected.
