I'm actually shocked that we haven't had any arguments in our religion Forum. *knocks on wood* Maybe due to this being a Spiritually-centered site, so people are very tolerant in that area? BTW, GU isn't a failure. Forums don't fail, people do. ------------------ "Never mentally imagine for another that which you would not want to experience for yourself, since the mental image you send out inevitably comes back to you." The forum may be inspired by Linda, but not the people Randall. I wish you'd try to understand my POV IP: Logged |

The only real problem I remember people having with that forum, was the flirting in almost every thread. The forum and subject matter itself, didn't seem to offend anyone. IP: Logged |

Best site like this, In my opinion.I would just assume living my life the way I do, far away from washington and all the issues people are fighting over. My life is too short for it, Other people love it and live it. But I can not. People pulling at you from all directions like rabid animals. I would not want to be a president under modern conditions or any other times for that matter. Presidents grow grey hair quickly for a reason. It ages you in a terrible way. *That is my opinion, Some people would simply see that as a challenge or something other than the way I do. Actually, Teasel, we who participate in that Forum were all called @ss lickers who are defaming Linda's name. ------------------ "Never mentally imagine for another that which you would not want to experience for yourself, since the mental image you send out inevitably comes back to you." Some people did have a problem with what they called a "sex" Forum, even though the Godzala strings and others had been circulating on parts of the site for some time.------------------ "Never mentally imagine for another that which you would not want to experience for yourself, since the mental image you send out inevitably comes back to you." AG, sadly, yes, the aftermath was greater than any GU fall out.Nikki, quote: The last time I went through GU I saw a very tasteless post about slavery and something to the effect of "it wasn't white people that did it, it was your own people"
Please note that was a filtered paraphrase and may not be in the context of the debate. Being a mod does have it`s moments and I don`t truck much with censorship. I don`t wish to edit posts, lock them or delete them. So in that sense, one will read some things that they won`t like . It is the nature of humans, politics and ensuing emotional outbursts that creates the forum testiness and popularity. There are many Knowflakes that post there, stay calm and on target so I know it`s possable. I`m not defending the behaviors yet Randall and many others want the forum so post if you wish or not. Again, be the change you want to see. Let us not throw the baby out with the bathwater. ------------------ What we do for ourselves dies with us. Can you link this thread? Please understand that EVERY "race or creed" has had a history of slavery. I see not one exception. The British enslaved the Indians (in India), the Chinese enslaved the Tibetans, the Spaniards enslaved Latin America, the French enslaved Haiti, Turkey enslaved Greece, Alexander the Great enslaved every country outside of Greece, Rome enslaved just about everyone it conquered, same can be said about the Persian Empire. It's a part of history. It's a shame we don't learn enough of it. IP: Logged |

Since this has been brought up here (and I'm not condoning the spirit of the comment or endorsing it in any way), what was said was the historically factual statement that black people in Africa sold black people as slaves to the Europeans. Slavery was a stain on society that will never be removed. It's tragic to the very core, and it is evil to the most base of humanity. ------------------ "Never mentally imagine for another that which you would not want to experience for yourself, since the mental image you send out inevitably comes back to you." It is a sad stain on history and the U.S. history is no different with the American Indians taking slaves for their use or for trade We can`t change history but we can make history by becomming better human beings and citizens of our respecting countries. A goood start for Global Unity ------------------ What we do for ourselves dies with us. What we do for others and the world is immortal"~ - George Eliot IP: Logged |

That was beautifully said,Randall. You inspire people on LL to live to their highest, not lowest denominator . The lowest parts of man are what cause the problems. I have certain role models in my life that inspire me to be the best I can be. It is hard and I fail more often than I succeed but the point may be to keep on trying. I love when people can be friends despite race ,religion or differences. It gives me hope, on a personal level, that superficial things like skin color do not count ! ------------------ Jesus never put his trust in man cuz he knew what was in man. Well, needless to say "Obomber" is a sick and derogatory name for our president. I see no one has bothered to address it, so I guess it's ok.I will just keep away from GU, then. IP: Logged |

No offense to you EES, but the other side was calling Bush a Nazi just a few years ago. I didn't condone that either, but in a country with freedom of speech, the right to criticize our leaders (even to the extreme) is paramount. We have to respect the rights of people to say what they want, especially those who have opinions in which we disagree. ------------------ "Never mentally imagine for another that which you would not want to experience for yourself, since the mental image you send out inevitably comes back to you." EverEvolvingSpirit, I understand why you find this distastefull. There is a convoluted history of GU and it (one example) is the demeaning of presidents by both left and right. Both, not just the situtation in question. I think you are right and GU is not a comfortable place for you ------------------ What we do for ourselves dies with us. I know there are some who find SPITR distastefull as others do GU. Yet both have a place and generally flow without censorship or LLC erupting into a hotbed of discussion. When it comes to censorship, the devil is in the details. ------------------ What we do for ourselves dies with us. What we do for others and the world is immortal"~
