and where they come from.....where do some of you get most of this stuff? Through research or mostly make things up?

Do you just make it up as you go along to try to sound like you are great astrologers by taking the root meaning of the word or a part of it and using your imagination to come up with a story about the meaning of it? I mean, it's endless....the amount of them that are out there... I can understand using some of them...if you use stories of gods and goddesses throughout history...but when does it get a bit out of hand?

Where does it end? Is it right to make some meaning up about every rock orbiting through space and tell people it's extremely meaningful to them in their charts? Or try to convince them of that?

Maybe I'm old school, but I miss the days when astrology was astrology and a very precise science and art. I think all the asteroid junk is giving it a bad name and throwing people off....or even leading them to believe in or focus on things that arent really important or that significant.

Thoughts? Opinions?

People don't make it up any more than the qualities of Uranus, Neptune, or Pluto were made up when first discovered. The collective unconscious has stored this knowledge and much more for release at the appropriate times. Asteroids are calculated by the same precise math as any other part of Astrology.

I realize and respect that to some degree. When it comes from a serious renowned talented astrolger, it's worthy of looking into, I think. But my question is, do some people take it too far? Many years ago when people first started really exploring asteroids here we had a thread and were joking how out of hand it seemed to be getting....i'd like to find that one as it was pretty funny, but also brought up some points worth thinking about. It's fine to explore your own subconscious but to say that it is also the collective conscioussness' and teach people just getting into astrology....something that you may have just made up while daydreaming one day....i don't know...

I'm not talking about the math part or their location in the sky though.

Many people appreciate and gain a lot from discussions of asteroids in Astrology. It is a very young field and so draws people who are interested in exploration. Perhaps, you are better suited to Mainstream Astrology, T.

Is it that? Or is it people desperate to find something in a chart to tell them what they want to hear? It seems like that is what is often going on. And it's not me not being uninterested in "exploration", I don't think.

Also, did you complain to Randall and have him move this?

Nope, I saw it myself and moved it. And if it isn't constructive, I will close it.

The asteroids are in their infancy in astrology. Those who love them explore them. If that is not your thing, then you should be in Mainstream Astrology where the road map is laid out for you.

The astrological roadmap is never laid out for anyone Ami. Anyway, thank you for your thoughts.

This thread is making me think of great astrologers who no longer post here. Would be nice to hear their two cents as I know they know where Im coming from.

And to be clear, this is not an attack against you, so don't take it that way.

I understand your type of astrology.

We have some truly great Astrologers here...Astrologers who are more interested in the art and science than in contention.

"The same general idea can be expressed in different ways. One person might have their Venus conjunct the asteroid Eros, suggesting that their approach to love and relationship has a very strong erotic charge. Another person might have Venus conjunct the asteroid Pecker, which suggests the same thing, but certainly gives a different coloring!"

found it see ere it is..

The heavens, indeed, may hold the answer. For a political astrologer, a glance at the sky last summer shows some intriguing patterns, predominantly a pairing of planet Saturn and asteroid Pecker (#1629) in mid-Virgo. Now, Pecker may technically be named for Jean-Claude Pecker, former director of the Nice observatory in southern France, but that doesn’t prevent its more colloquial side from expressing itself. As a common euphemism for penis, Pecker shows prominently in such incidents as Lorena Bobbitt’s de-peckering of hubby John, and innumerable political sexual fiascos, including NJ Governor Jim McGreevey’s coming out, NY Governor Eliot Spitzer’s unmasking, Idaho Senator Larry Craig’s wide stance, and that Clinton thing.

OP-I agree with everything you said. Although I look at some of the mainstream asteroids, I do think it's a complete waste of time trying to understand the cajillion other ones. Its hard enough tackling Astrology at the start. I try to be open minded about reading on it though. It's too bad a lot of people trying to study Astrology properly get completely wrapped up in one area(asteroids) and think it means something. That bothers me especially in regards to romantic connections.

Well said birdy. Thank you.

Somehow taking things to far can be mistaken for taking them too deep these days.

Also, Ami telling me maybe my astrology is "Mainstream" thinking that is some sort of insult does not upset me too much. I think mine would be more along the Evolutionary Astrological lines if anything... similar to what Steven and Jodi Forrest teach, but then again you wouldnt know anything about the astrology I understand since I havent shared too much of it here in years...now would you?
