Jhiad or terrorism isn't a "christian thing" Ethnic cleansing is.

How is the murder of 6 million people during the Holocaust and the war in Bosnia any better then Jhiad?

At least with Jhiad its isolated groups of Islamic fundamentalists.

For example there was a terrorism plot in Canada this week, but police were tipped off by the Iman and members of the muslin community.

Clearly its isolated radical Islamic groups.
http://www.theepochtimes.com/n3/22228-muslims-foil-terror-plot-imam-tip-led-to-arrests/

With Ethnic cleansing there are more deaths evolved and communities and families decimated. Pope John Paul is the only pope to apologize on behalf of all Christians for decades of persecuting other faiths.

I hadn't realized that spool, thanks for pointing it out...it is very significant weighed against those who swear all muslims are either a) the same or b)afraid to "stand up" against their more bloodthirsty brethren.

I hope things are coming to a "head" and the watershed line is almost here

The core explanation (explained earlier, so don't pretend I'm just pulling this out of thin air) is that the Christians who turn guns into a religious symbol see a war coming with the godless heathens as their power wanes, and they want to both show support with fellow member's of "God's army" and nudge other Christians into taking up the fighting spirit. If they don't then God will destroy them right along with the rest of us (and that means America falls).

And the reason I believe it's much more common in the South is because the wounds of the Civil War haven't fully healed up and they're already used to seeing the nation as "2 nations in one" as the Christians who have promoted guns as part of their religion do so they're much more open about incorporating the worldview and turning guns into a religious symbol to promote the idea of resistance, even belligerence (plus God and guns just fits in so neatly anyway that it's almost a given and thus less likely to seem strange promoting both at the same time).

Since this might prove useful in both forums I'm double posting (one in each), but in the future I'm gonna try to keep theology and the like to one and the politics to the other (granted, I'm sure the line is going to be real hard to tell sometimes) with the notable exception that if one turns into the other then I'll keep with that thread as it would be very confusing otherwise.

The list of atrocities committed by Biblical Jews against Canaanites and Amalekites is far worse than Jihadi terror.
Every religion has a terrible bodycount.
We cannot be in denail about the Inquisition that led to hundreds of thousands of deaths of non-Christians. Jihad is Kindergarden stuff compared to the crimes of Biblical Fundamentalists.

But we cannot ignore the FUTURE POTENTIAL of Jihad either. It is easy to condemn a Biblical Fundamentalist as a brainwashed lunatic but the mindset of Jihadis is sinister, starts off as pleasant and logical Salafism, slowly curbs the thinking of Muslims and radicalizes them away from mainstream seculars. It is a Mental Terrorism agains fellow Muslims itself.

We who are of Spirit have to guard against all forms of terror.

it is funny, in France, the mainstream is clearly not religious, either atheist or agnostic is the vast majority. we equate that with being modern, as opposed to our thousand years long history of being catholic, time when french Kings set up crusades to jerusalem, ruled as the sons of god on earth...
so from here the religious discourse (muslim or catholic) is nonsense) but when I read the numerous enlightened comments (understand: not ami's comments) I feel proud and happy to have an insight in true american society(unlike many french who don't get a word in English)
it feels good to think that somewhere in the western world, one can say I believe in god without necessarily being considered a nutcase. if you were to say that in France, people would consider you a backward person. (although there are still some catolics in France, they got an opportunity to unite recently and make themselves beileve they were still an important part of society when they "loudly" opposed the gay marriage. (still doing although the law is passed)
anyway... regarding the US moderate christians, thank you for being here, not because we, in europe fear being "influenced" by christians extremists, with our long history, we will never go back down those roads again, but because we may end up going too far on the other side (atheist, agnostic, scientific so to speak)

and I think that goes for most european countries (at least western countries that have had similar and very intertwined history since the end of the roman empire (ps, check on wikipedia french history, since roughly the 6th century France's institutions (Kings/state/population) is catholic
you understand the weight of religion on our culture...

We who are of Spirit have to guard against all forms of terror.

Guard against it? What does that mean? You have to do actual things. These Muslim Terrorists are doing actual things. They are making bombs and planning how to use them on free societies, everywhere. Look at Spain. Look at the Philippines. Look at India. Look at England. Look at Indonesia.Look at Pakistan. Look at Sweden. Look at the USA.Look at Israel, the only free society in the Middle East.

Do you think Muslim terrorists will stop if you throw them Israel? They want all free societies under Sharia Law.That included where you live, whoever is reading this. Do any of you enlightened Liberals want to be under Sharia Law. I doubt anyone here wants to be all covered up, as a woman, genital mutilation with no legal rights. In the mosques, they teach men how to beat their wives and not leave a bruise. That is what it is, Friends. Your blindness will be your undoing.

Thank you for that perspective, pire. Americans have notoriously short memories, unfortunately. Too many of us have forgotton the European blood spilt over many centuries of religious wars. A secular state free from a state sanctioned religion was an essential component of our governmental structure for our Founders, and with very good reason. Hopefully the religious nuts won't win the day over here
I don't want to bullied by the heavy hand of politicized Catholicism or Evangelicism any more than I do by Sharia.

For goodness sake, ami. I suspect iQ means we must not allow ourselves to succumb to a fundamentalist mindset.

Also, about circumcision: Female circumsion is a tribal custom long predating Islam. In fact, in those nations where various tribal customs remain strong you will find Christians and Jews practicing female circumcision, as well. Egypt, for instance. The Quran does not call for female circumcision. Sharia is complex, to say the least and agreement on what passes as legit and what doesn't is hard to come by. In the Islamic world you would be hard pressed to find a moderate Muslim condoning female circumcision. Many many sheiks have spoken out against it.

Now the Jews are another matter. They continue to insist on male circumcision. What's more, they've somehow managed to convince otherwise perfectly reasonable Christians, agnostics, and even atheists to painfully mutilate their sons' penises - innocent little babies with absolutely no say in the matter! Crazy, huh?

I'm not worried about them, really. I think with the passing of the boomers they will become as irrelevant as the KKK. I admit I was worried a bit but things showed me that their power (and social clout) continue to wane. The 2012 election showed that (and one reason I heard many give for voting Democrat was Independents, and even some Republicans, saying they voted Republican in 10 for the JOBS they promised, not declaring a religious crusade in the political realm against women & gays as they did instead, and they remembered that in the 12 election by voting against them), among other things. Like when Miley Cyrus (very Christian, she actually said people who don't know Jesus make her cry, perhaps just as well she couldn't hear me reply, "Miley, I'd make you SOB" ) expressed compassion for gays and said they deserved love & equality some antigay groups called for a boycott against her and her character Hannah Montana (who at the time was to tween girls what the Beatles used to be), and they eventually had to give it up because they were even alienating their own kids (or causing them to be rejected by their peers at the least), which goes to say that Hannah was even bigger than Jesus (and among the youth even the Christians that have outgrown the rejection of gays outnumber those who hold more conservative views so I believe antigay bigotry will join racial bigotry in the "unacceptable" column by the time Pluto in Sag comes of age). Finally, the Christian Right threatened to leave the Republican Party which resulted in these comments (be sure to read the BEST column and notice how many thumbs up they get as multiple Republicans say, some quite rudely, "Good riddance"):
http://now.msn.com/tony-perkins-dont-donate-to-gop-until-they-fight-gay-marriage

That matches the Republicans I personally know who are either libertarian-leaning (more Ron Paul in nature) and while they tend to believe the 2A is absolute they don't believe religious values should be legislated (and typically prefer people keep their religion "in their pants") or any group treated separately (as everyone should be judged as an individual, not as a gender, race, sexual orientation, religion, etc) or are moderate (in which case they're focused on economic and pragmatic issues, not religious ones, even if they go to church themselves, and while they support the 2A in general they don't think it's absolute).

Exactly, every religious group has to guard against getting radicalized by that group's lunatics. Ami is right that Muslim Fundamentalists do not hesitate to place bombs but Christian Fundamentalists commit similar acts of terror with guns.

Thousands of African Americans were killed by White supremacists Christian Terrorists.
Catholic Terror in Ireland was also committed with bombs, "Hindu" LTTE killed thousands before their own people got terrorized by "Buddhist" Sri Lankan Army and Israel has also been guilty of human rights abuse. Israeli terrorists like Baruch Goldstein shot innocent Muslims dead in a Mosque.

So every religion has a fair share of lunatic fundamentalists, and the Spiritual Folk have to guard themselves and their communities from this Mindset that makes the use of terror an option. Terror on Civilians is never an option.

doommlord,

we know the ststistics did NOT come from the FBI

The FBI Divides Terrorist-Related Activities into Two Categories:

A terrorist incident is a violent act or an act dangerous to human life, in violation of the criminal laws of the United States, or of any state, to intimidate or coerce a government, the civilian population, or any segment thereof, in furtherance of political or social objectives.

A terrorism prevention is a documented instance in which a violent act by a known or suspected terrorist group or individual with the means and a proven propensity for violence is successfully interdicted tNote: The FBI investigates terrorism-related matters without regard to race, religion, national origin, or gender. Reference to individual members of any political, ethnic, or religious group in this report is not meant to imply that all members of that group are terrorists. Terrorists represent a small criminal minority in any larger social context. http://www.fbi.gov/stats-services/publications/terrorism-2002-2005/terror02_05

Doommlord. "stats" will always be available from any group type with an agenda .

ie militia, conspiracy theories of any flavor, political parties, judeo christians, Muslim or religious factions .

A responsible party, like the FBI, generally does not break such horror down to religious or ethnic types.

Terrorism is terrorism and deplorable by any group & label.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2013/apr/21/boston-marathon-bombs-us-gun-law

Extrapolating from factual databases, total deaths in USA because of Christian Gun Crimes against fellow Christians since 9-11:
300000+.

Total Christians in America killed by Muslim Terrorists in the 12 years since 9-11: 4

Mathematically speaking, an American Christian Conservative Radical with a gun is about 100000 times more evil and dangerous for a fellow American Christian in America than an Al-Qaeda Jihadi.

If we now add the total Muslims killed in the Middle East because of US Intervention in Iraq since 1991, the number is far in excess of 1 million Civilians, majority being children. Thus, there is no mathematical evidence whatsoever that a Muslim Terrorist is more dangerous than an American Christian Conservative or Soldier with a Gun who holds illogically hateful thoughts against Arabs.

In fact, the smartest thing an Al-Qaeda operative can do is to genuinely convert to Christianity, get a US Passport, move to a Red State, buy some guns n Bibles and listen to Rush for one year. He will then be able to kill off more Americans. He will not be tried for terror, it will just be homicide.

Meanwhile, while we are having this debate, hundred more American Christian child have gone missing today, American Christian Conservatives just do not care. Millions have been raped, date raped or killed by uncaught Ted Bundys since 9-11. Millions are spoiling their life from drugs, millions are autistic without the right care.
American Christian Conservatives do not care, they are more concerned about dangerous Muslim Jihadis who will kill three or four more Americans in the next 10 years and then establish Shariah Rule over America to mark their great success.

Before Rush dies, 10-15 million more American Christians would have had their lives completely destroyed thanks to the apathy of fellow Conservative Christians. I am sure Rush and every right wing radical will be a proud person in the Pearly Gates, and boast to Christ about saving their Nation from a couple of Jihadi Attacks.
