Which is sort of the reason why I'm bothering Odette, a form member is feeling very alone and beaten down (imo) and this forum not having page views as a stat, and her thread only having 3 replies, it is impossible to know how many have gotten themselves out of their own selfs and at least checked into what is happening with her.

Not an accusation more just how all of this works, in a way it's a microcosm of modern life with instant access "what am I feeling today" communications.

I know other people are having problems in this world baby cakes.. But my problem is that I'm a really really nice girl and no one likes me.
I'm soooo flipping nice all the time so why doesn't anyone like me?
And then they try to grab my genitals in clubs and they try to have sex with me but they don't really like me.
They are all like this.
It's just too much.

Sorry - which thread am I on again?

Oh well nvm. I'm pretty sure every single thread is about me anyway.

And suicide has been common for a long time everywhere, no internet required and all the face to face a person could handle...perhaps too much of it.

And I don't think people would get too into the internet without enough human contact unless they were prone to that anyway. The new generation is completely plugged in, I think they interact more online (including phones) than off but they're not deprived zombies. The real problem is actually that the net has facilitated socialization to the point that rumor campaigns are much more devastating now because it alerts everyone instantly how to treat a person and how to barrage a bullied victim when the victim normally would be able to escape (if only for a little while). And seeing the human face of a bullied victim isn't going to stop that cyberbullying it only opens the door to more abuse and even violence (which might be recorded on cam to show off to others).

That said, the current generation is no worse than the generations before it, the narcissism of the older generations that always says otherwise notwithstanding.

Ah, not to drag another thread into all of this, it does strike me that the conditions are EVEN more oppressive for such a campaign against someone who perhaps had sex with "someone they knew was with so and so"

Which boils down to is a vast communication network able to overcome such campaigns that deal with the more basal things in human nature?

Thusly, my cynicism in that arena

The person you are referring to - I did read her post and I did not reply intentionally.
As our grandmothers taught us all: when you have nothing nice to say - don't say anything at all.
So I am zipping it.
I have nothing to add to what Randall said to this poster.
Not one thing.

One cannot spell triangle w/o trite, yet one has managed to do so, most impressive.

Although that forest endures sad circumstance, I am watching the video link now and I love the way it looks! Not trying to make light of it but it would be fun to play Star Wars Return Of The Jedi in a forest like that! I seriously wonder if that's where the idea for Endor came from?

Well, did not know, good.

Playful banter aside of course

As for the larger picture, when in college I took the usual boring mkting classes, and studied word of mouth mkting.

This is the danger of the 'net, it allows leveraging of an opinion leaders well..opinion.

And once posted, it does not go away, especially in that odd mix of online and IRL communications.

Eh, has kept me out of a lot of trouble through the years..Saggie and all that.

IDK, maybe I'm seeing the mix b/t electronic communications and internal thought blurring to an extent that people wind up disappointed or meglomaniacs or outkasts

All in real time of course

To the OP's first post, the Japanese society imposes so much pressure, imputed pressure, that the forest of death will b/c more attractive for even the most minor of failures.

Just for fun, though it does remind me of how plenty of people interact both OL and off (that is how one bleeds into the other as opposed to sacrificing human contact):

Lesbian phone tree (one shows her frustration by using lots of profanity):

By the end that achieved the status of art.

ETA: adding a very short one just for the cringing laugh:

It looks like that where we live (a bit of a rainforest). We live here because we feel that being connected to the earth is really important for us, on a spiritual level.

I've always been like that, though.
But I do feel as though spending too much time on the internet (even having interesting conversations like we do here...sometimes) distracts me from that.

I have some other articles I will post later when I have time. For now, we've opted to try to seriously limit our internet time permanently, as well as the television being on. So we've been outside (in the cold) running and kicking the ball with our son, and now we're sitting inside with a nice warm fire, just...playing. Without distraction.

I think that's what it amounts to for me. It's like we have become so accustomed to being distracted that we cannot simply be.

I like a certain amount of internet time, but I think it can be destructive, too. I felt better over the holidays, because things were better between me and my parents, and we were actually spending time together, watching movies, having something to eat, etc.

I'll have to come back later. After messing around with the MGO thing on Roku, and not getting anywhere, in order to watch a movie, I finally picked one on Netflix, and it's playing.

I meant to tell you, Teasel:

I LIKE NETFLIX.

It's what you want when you want.

Cable is a never-ending disappointment compared to that.

I know what you mean. When we have family visiting (which is fairly often), I don't spend as much time on here. But if I can't get away for a minute to check whatever online, I get grouchy. That's something that I consider to be a hindrance for me on a personal level, so I'm glad that I'm examining it.
Nice to see you, teasel!

Okay, my internet time expired about ten minutes ago. See what I mean? One internet minute = 30 real life minutes.

I'd love it if my cousin and Granny had internet as we've had very little face to face over the last several years and I miss them. I do talk to them over the phone at times but I think we could feel closer if we had an internet connection. I'm actually thinking of buying my grandmother a computer now. I bet if she could get used to it she'd like it as she's a lonely spirit out where she's at. And I'm wondering if it might help her quit smoking since a lot of people smoke when they get bored.

OTOH, it might get my mom (her daughter) to visit, at least if I ever give in to my temptations to have her watch a couple of YT vids to comment on them. And those two don't get along well, perhaps it's best if they stay apart...And my cousin would probably send me a bunch of Jackass type vids asking me to record my expression (so he could laugh) as I watched it ("Oh, nice, but newsflash, cousin: everyone already knows about 2 girls, 1 cup, you can't trick me so easily").

The idea of keeping up with the 'rents OL is surreal to me. It might actually help me and mom get along better with some distance kept between us but I'm also thinking of Dad forgetting I'm his daughter instead of some OL porn actress he'd probably be more interested in ("Dad, it's me, not Boobzilla" "Oh, sorry, too many beers, should get offline and bury my head in shame...hey, baby [censored]" "Dad, it's still me, and no I'm not going to show you that." "Get off my computer!").
