BUT... when AG shares such a personal experience after months and months of interacting with us - sooooo many jump down his throat and nullify his negative experiences.
I don't mean to justify dogpiling him, and I can see where he's coming from in this thread, but I do understand why some are jumping down his throat. As you say he's interacted with us for a long time, but much of that was downplaying our problems, even denying we had them, while whining about his own. Therefore I understand why people aren't feeling sympathetic for him now, especially when you throw in that he acts as if his problems are the only ones in the world anyone has the right to complain about while all others are "myths" (granted, he feels his own problems get dismissed for being a white male). I won't argue that people should (to a point) attempt to be more understanding but I also understand why people are more sympathetic to someone who hasn't constantly criticized and even vilified the people (or at least demographic they belong to) here. Despite this, he's had sympathy and people standing up for him all the same.

You've got to be kidding. I told you that it's a daily occurrence for me. I have my 4th Amendment rights violated all the time... unreasonable searches and seizures for no reason whatsoever. I get stopped by the police just so that they can check my drivers' license and make sure that the car isn't stolen. Last month, I got a warning ticket for drinking coffee in my car.. coffee.. at a stop light while the vehicle wasn't even in motion. A cop once asked me while I was just innocently parking my car: "Is this car yours? Show me the registration and your license." His hand was right on his service 9mm pistol as he was talking to me. It wasn't even a traffic stop. I got hassled in my driveway in my house and the cop took a walk around my car just to make sure that nothing is illegal. That's a violation of my 6th Amendment rights... Why? Some anonymous neighbor didn't like that I was vacuuming my car interior in the middle of a sunny day in my driveway, and the person is White... well, nobody else living on my street is *not* White. I was once pulled over and handcuffed without reason, face down on the asphalt, boot on my shoulder, wearing my office suit simply because there was an armed robbery in my neighborhood and the suspect was supposed to be Asian. Turned out the apprehended suspect was 30 years younger than me, 2 inches shorter and 4 inches smaller in the waist. I just look like Wing, Wang, Wai and Wong. Never mind they just got Wrong Wong. Sorry for your suffering as a kid. You don't have a monopoly on suffering and you haven't cornered that market. Discrimination goes in all forms and manner. Kids on the street poured their bottled water on me as I walked to my office. Even then, I asked them if they were hungry and bought them coffee and bagels. Even as they can't stand the fact that I have a job and throw snide remarks at me. They don't have a meaningful job because the economy sucks sh1t. Not their fault. But it's also not my fault that I worked hard for what I have, busting my azz everyday, working 15+ hours a day. You're not getting anywhere as long as you keep feeling sorry for yourself. I suggest that you put on your steel toe boots and kick the crap out of the competition and make your own name for yourself. I'm not telling you explicitly to "grow up," but I am sort of doing so anyway. You can feel insulted, and I'm sorry if you do. At the end of the day, please just... grow. I promised myself that I wouldn't post ever again, and I have broken that promise to myself, and also to Ami. I'm posting this last bit just for you because I have hope for you and believe that you will make a success for yourself. You can tell me to F myself if you like. That's ok with me. I just wish you well. Cheers.

I'm sorry to hear all that. My point wasn't to complain or feel sorry for myself. My point was to show that white men don't neccesarily have it easier, everyone deals with sh*t. I was harassed by the cops as a teen on a daily basis and was even tazed and arrested for no reason. It got to the point where I wouldn't even leave my front porch and even then I would still get crap sometimes. I heard through the grapevine that the same cop who tazed me shot and killed a 13 year old boy because he had a pocket knife. I am inclined to believe it to because I have not seen that cop in years. It's scary to think that I could have been that boy if that clown had a gun instead of a taser when I had my run ins with him.

I am pretty sure, since the last Census, Hispanics are the majority in this country (US) anyway. Now more than ever, people need to figure out ways to get along with each other I mean what choices do you have? Just wall yourself off because believe me that's not the answer. You will only hurt yourself. It's best to elevate the species whenever possible. Injustices are always going to be there, how do you make these issues better, is the question, instead of merely complaining about them. Be constructive about it. Firemoon, Thank you for your kind remarks and I appreciate your candor. My interest wasn't exactly to leave but to not post. In that regard, I will hereforth respond in kind and post strategically. The bottom line is that while my viewpoints provide diversity in opinion, they are by themselves antithetical to prevailing consensuses. My views can be presented, but they serve little purpose beyond diversity. As you correctly pointed, my thought processes, values and conduct are diametrical to this forum and the antipodal opposition is rather evident. IP: Logged |

Yeah the media is really kind of a joke.. I considered going into journalism, but after looking into the "professional" route there's no way I could make that a career. Something like 6 corporations now own the majority of US news and entertainment networks.. how convenient lol quote: Originally posted by aquaguy91: I think the powers that be try to deceive us by making us think sexism and/or racism are the real issues when they really aren't. For example you might here a news story about a poor black guy getting hassled by the cops and it becomes a media circus revolving around his race. People get fired up and deem it all a race issue when the reality might be that he is being profiled because he lives in the hood.
I also completely agree it's easy for cops to get away with some pretty crazy and unethical sh*t. But I think you have this part a little backwards... A black guy from "the hood" can get hassled by cops just for "being suspicious", ie suspected of "gang activities", etc. any number of ridiculous stereotypes that can make for a convenient justification. And this does tend to get shown much more often and in a different light in the media.. So in some ways wealthy black men (for example) could be targeted even more severely for going against the stereotypes (basically having to deal with people thinking they're going to steal something or whip out a gun at any moment when they're just trying to have a nice meal or something) It seems like it should be irrelevant how the media portrays things, but a lot of people really are pretty gullible.. And when the US government decides to invade/ "help" other "less civilized" nations, a lot of people here don't seem to think twice about it. Again it's often for an economic agenda, but race and culture get strongly woven into the justification. And sometimes part of the story is to "save" victimized women from the "evil" men in those nations/cultures which is where it comes full circle... I won't get too into that lol but another random thought on how gender relates is that turns out making women feel insecure about themselves and wanting to buy endless amounts of beauty/hair products, self improvement stuff, etc. is pretty profitable. A lot of people think things are so "liberal" now and sexism doesn't exist anymore, but in some ways it's gotten worse or hasn't changed much.. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/01/17/lego-ad-1981_n_4617704.html?ncid=edlink usaolp00000009 http://newsfeed.time.com/2013/12/05/how-far-we-havent-come-all-of-the-terrible-ways-the-media-treated-women-in-2013-in-one-video/[/URL] Soo those are just my opinions.. I'm sure you've had to face unfair discrimination too. But I think "being poor" has become attached to certain stereotypes which are usually also attached to race. So if you live in a lower income neighborhood you might have to deal with the same things regardless of race, but that doesn't mean it's not still a larger problem imo.. IP: Logged |
