PixieJane Knowflake Posts: 9914 From: CA Registered: Oct 2010	posted December 21, 2022 02:07 PM Thought some might find this interesting...it's how Battle of the Planets was done for small children in Japan, and how the US edited what was aired in America, sanitizing it and pouring in a ton of sugar to the point they cut out part of the story. Just one example (I guess about a 3 minute scene each combined together, but I'm not double checking): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=co4_WHDp72Y&ab_channel=Inno A lot of things considered "too adult" are in children's programs, and a lot aimed at teens would be Mature in many western nations, at least 15 or 17 and older. But Japanese children as young as 5 generally seem able to use adult transportation to get themselves to school where they generally do well enough with standards much higher than our own, which many meet. And they work to counter some of the negative aspects of their society with some success. So they must be doing something right. A Western child able to live up to what is expected in Japan would be considered remarkable, so apparently being frank and not shying away from "dark stuff" isn't harming them (but it's not like kids can't scare themselves silly anyway).
