I'm not jealous.Or envious. It just catches my eye. The only time I looked at George Clooney was when I caught a long-haired picture. Then I knew who they were referring to. IP: Logged |

Btw, LK, thought you'd appreciate an encounter in the East Texas Bible Belt: a boy wore his hair long and the preacher came to his home to tell him he should cut it. The boy said he was following the tradition of Samson. The preacher told him Samson was no longer relevant and the boy quipped, "From what I see not very much of the Bible is relevant, even to you." Let's just say his smart mouth got him into far more trouble than mine did me. IP: Logged |

You know I think there is some truth to that story, at least the metaphoric-idea of hair being a source of ones power, or an extension of ones power. I'm sure I read on a forum here, or perhaps was over at project-avalon Well anyhow someone posted a study conducted by the US military to find out why their Native American recruited "trackers" were completely failing to do their job once their hair was cut. So they ran an experiment with two teams of these guys who before entering the military were rated as excellent trackers/recon type warriors. They cut one groups hair and left the others uncut, ran a bunch on recon type drills over an extended period of time. The soldiers who kept their hair had a significantly higher performance rating than their shaved-headed counterparts: After which I believe the let all the recruited American Indians keep their hair long. I know the report is on the net somewhere, I'm just being abit lazy hue hue ------------------ You can't handle my level of Tinfoil! ~ {;,;}

I just recalled what an email correspondence shared about his life in the Caribbean. Down on his luck he applied to work at a hotel (going by what he says I think all the good jobs are catering to the tourists). He had all the qualifications yet they demand he cut his long locks. Of course the hotels typically cater to those with money and are owned by interests outside the country who are scared of people who look different from them. Even a local owner would know that rich tourists want to go out and see all the "crazy locals" but they then want to retreat somewhere where they feel safe, surrounded (so they believe) by their own kind.'Course the real criminals to watch out for are those who can convince you that you ARE of their own kind. It amazes me how easily fooled people are by appearances so that they'll trust those they shouldn't and fear those who would never do them harm. Btw, he refused to take the job...though OTOH, that's the last email I remember getting from him, so I hope he's doing okay... IP: Logged |

Oh wow... I find it quite amusing that guys with long hair have been dubbed as feminine and vain when in many cultures, long hair on men is considered a sign on virility! The longer your hair, the more manly you are! Lol! I guess, with just about anything else, if you keep your hair clean, tidy and managed, then there shouldn't be any issues... I am having a great deal of difficulty managing my hair these days Lol! I used to have a medium sized hairstyle for a while until last year when I decided to grow it out again and keep a longer hairstyle like I used to have during my youth. My wife loved it ; So much so that for the time being, its the style I am sticking with . ... Which leads me to a request from our forumers; If there are guys out here who have had extensive experience in managing and maintaining long hair styles, I would appreciate helpful advice on the issue. Here is what my hair currently looks like: IP: Logged |

Well a ponytail can be a pretty obvious choice, but I often prefer stronghold hair-gel and sun/glasses keeping my 2+ feet of hair off of my face when wearing a down style A decent parting helps also, fun for emo-looks Currently my own hair is very similar to this Russel Brand look only longer ------------------ You can't handle my level of Tinfoil! ~ {;,;}

Pony tail is a def. no no for me . I don't know if I can pull that look off without looking like a deranged director of an indie movie Lol! Parting in the middle is another option but the constant feel of hair at the side of my face starts to irritate me. Gel is another option that I want to avoid; Unless it ain't my wife's fingers, its not going on my hair . IP: Logged |

LOL! It might eventually come down to that . Seriously, a lot of changes needed to be made for my morning grooming just to accommodate maintaining my long hair. Usually, my entire routine lasts 10-12 or so mins. Nowadays, it takes about 10-12 mins. alone to wash out the hair! (Since I don't use shampoo that often.) Damned pain in the back side... But the wifey likes it so... . IP: Logged |

Having 3 to over 4 feet long hair for most of my life to date (almost 60 years to date); I am utterly bewildered at how many people claim long hair is hard to care for. Seriously it is VERY EASY TO TAKE CARE OF!. Wash in shower and let air dry. Cut a path to see through if you wish; ie; bangs; and there you are, easy quick no hassle care. Even hair dryer drying only takes 10 minutes max even for 4 feet long hair. Hair gels and other crap is in my point of view utterly disgusting. I hate touching hair gooped with that slop. Ewwwwwww. My husband, son and several other men I know with hair 3 to 4 feet long all just tie it back to achieve a pseudo shorter hair look when needed or wanted. Hair 2 feet or shorter is not long hair in my opinion. IP: Logged |

I think all men should grow their hair really long, unless they are balding, and then cut it and sell it to wig makers for hundreds of dollars. It would be neat-o if this was a cultural tradition and expectation because men generally have thicker, more lustrous hair than women. And right after they harvest their hair, they wear a special ceremonial wig until it grows a bit longer, since the hair will be cut really close to their scalps. IP: Logged |

Huh? Say what? That must be why men are more prone to baldness and most men start seeing their hairline recede in their 20s or 30s. Men generally have more body hair and women generally have more hair on their heads. This is why men usually have shorter haircuts and women have longer hair and shave all their body hair. This is done to highlight and exaggerate the gender differences and stand out to the opposite sex. Men generally like very feminine looking women so the women tend to wear their hair long and shave their legs,bikini line etc. you get the picture.IP: Logged |

I'm talking about men who do not have any baldness. Of course its not the same for balding men.

I think the worst was how when I was trying to focus on what I was doing when longer hair was tickling my face or even get stuck in my mouth which was very annoying. Longer hair required more washing, brushing, and the like. And if I showered with long hair before going somewhere nice then it took longer and air drying wasn't an option as that left wet spots on clothes. Other nuisances I noticed was that it was hotter and absorbed more sweat, and wind isn't as cooling (plus it tangled up long hair easier) which I noticed in the heat & humidity of Texas...and given that I often rode in vehicles with no AC so that the windows were down my hair got very tangled, and the longer & thicker it was, the worse it was. Even strong wind could do it, especially if I was racing about (including bike, skateboard, horseback). My longer hair got caught in branches and brambles and other nuisance flora as well (whether going through the woods which included at night, falling off my skateboard into a ditch, or climbing trees) which left even more junk in the brushes I used. (And sometimes itchy hay!) I got gum stuck in my (subjectively) long hair once. Didn't care to repeat that experience. And another problem I never had with short hair is that it never got into my food, such as when dipping a chip, biting it while watching a movie when I had longer hair could end up with me having to spit out hair caught in it which is then in my hair (and can spread, possible get on furniture, unless I get the dip out right away). And that's just me. I hear others talk about long hair getting caught in everything from zippers to car doors (I expect the latter would've happened to me when I spent a few months constantly stoned, but I kept my hair very short then, it happened to others I was with on windy days, however). Long hair isn't exactly hard to take care of, even if you want it to look its very best, but the inconvenience of it was still more than I wanted to deal with as I don't care one way or another about the length.
