I don't think I made this assertion? What said is that I see people all around who appear to be products of the media they consume. I meant in society, not LL. If someone can engage in the media and remain uninfluenced by it, then they are stronger than I am. That is what I said, Teasel. IP: Logged |

Mercuranian, I'm unsure what is going on recently, but I am seeing a slew of invalidation toward personal experience, when it requires a revision of a strongly-held perception. It happened to me on here recently. And I'm seeing it happen in RL. Some beliefs can be so rigid. I suspect individuals are over-identifying with their perceptions, as they form a persona that they deem to be valuable, and garners them the type of response they wish from the environment. However, whether their perception is rooted in truth and reality will depend on how willing they are to let it grow and encompass ALL experience. I guess this isn't an easy thing to do. IP: Logged |

Two weeks ago, a man approached me and struck up a conversation with me on a subway platform. Being the polite person that I am and it also being the Canadian way, I smiled and said a few words, then went back to reading what I had been when he approached me. When he asked me my name, I told him, said it was nice meeting him, wished him a good night, and went back to reading. But he would not take a hint. He proceeded to sit directly beside me on the train. I told him I was trying to get some reading done - curt, but obvious, I think - and that I was going to go back to it. He ignored me and continued talking to me. He asked me for contact information. I declined and said I had a boyfriend. He proceeded to rub my back before moving to another chair where he tried to continue the conversation (which was asking personal questions that were, frankly, none of his business). At this point I had to get off the train and wait for the next one. This was after 12 o'clock at night.I reserve the right to call men who violate boundaries and make me uncomfortable creepy, and your nieces do, too. Aquaguy, you're just going to have to get over it. Some males are creepy and that's the nicest designation they deserve . IP: Logged |

Umm, as I recall you provided a biased news source in Astro 2.0 implying the recent plane crash in the Alps was due to Islam and was quite bigoted. Not to mention you did not bother to read the note at the bottom of the article retracting their original statements. I'd say that is not very independent of you. You literally grabbed what they wrote instead of critically thinking about the manipulative message behind it. I'd also say then the pot is calling the kettle black here. You can't refute someone else's experience, unless you live, breathe, eat, and sleep with me, you cannot claim my experiences or anyone else's as false. IP: Logged |

Yeah, me too. It is frustrating but never let them feel as though they are important enough to invalidate your experiences. IP: Logged |

Yes you should! if someone acts like a creep, regardless of gender, then we have every right to feel uncomfortable and reject your advances. IP: Logged |

Of course I'm not referring to such scenarios. I'm referring to some women's propensity to label certain men as creepy for simply existing. That's what my niece was doing because I asked what this creepy guy said or did and she couldn't give me a good answer. Creepy has become the code word for an unattractive man.

You are not the only one who thinks that. If you check back on old threads you will start to notice an interesting pattern. quote: Originally posted by Ami Anne:

Then do the same for me and stop derailing my threads on purpose like a 5-year-old. quote: Originally posted by Ami Anne: How did you get so cool, E? You would be surprised the number of people who leave LL from the bullying.
You mean the TWO people that have left LL this year because of you? Considering the fact you wouldn't leave the two people alone before they left, and the email commentary you write about other posters, I think you are the last person to be acting like you are above everyone else. IP: Logged |

For one, people tend to get annoyed when you write paragraphs in that way, it gets distracting. Number two, considering another mod writes like that pretty frequently, and the fact you constantly post on her threads and agree with everything she says makes it very suspect. Even the grammar and sentence structure is a bit too close... Because the way a woman dresses should reflect the amount of respect she deserves? That is unbelievably sexist. The way someone dresses is not reflective of their value. And shouting a sexist comment after being accused of rape is not equivalent. How does that make me a hypocrite-where did I contradict myself? Your argument makes no sense. You claimed the US isn't a rape culture by shaming the experiences people cited in the thread- how is that not a problem? It was insensitive and false. I responded and gave you examples of how your assumption was wrong. The other thing is that your second argument again makes no sense, most men do not rape, but the majority of people who do rape are men. That is a true statement again, which is what the article said. Nowhere did the article bash men and make misandry commentary. The person who shouted FHRIP was the same person accused of rape, I think that is more than enough evidence to show he is not respectful. Anyone who respects women would not say something like that as a joke. For the record I would prefer not to respond to you, but you seem to like to take random things out of my post and try to make erroneous and false arguments that never make sense. IP: Logged |
