Please don't accuse me of something and then lock the thread. You wrote: quote:

Regarding the dehumanization of Muslims: This goes beyond simple prejudice. I believe there has been an Islamophobic agenda promoted through the media to encourage support for the US's ongoing military interference in the Middle East. This agenda has succeeded in flat out dehumanizing Muslims, to the extent that professing Christians have no qualms about killing them (as I said on another thread, the Christian school Liberty University trains drone pilots for the military.) That is problematic to say the very least. There is a way to disagree with extreme religious ideology without altogether dehumanizing people. Just because I don't want Muslims dehumanized does not mean I exalt the Koran over the Bible, or love Islam, or embrace sharia law...none of these things. Please don't make any assumptions. I have never come out and actively supported Islam; I know almost nothing about it. But I do know that regular Muslims are totally okay in my book, and they visit this site, and they never push an agenda, not that I've seen. It's never been my intention to criticize all Christians in one fell swoop, and certainly not to dehumanize them, and ABSOLUTELY NOT to the extent that I wish them dead, but I feel that Americans have been brainwashed by an extreme Islamophobic agenda to the extent that they do wish them dead, and that is dangerous, and calls for pushback. I am not anti-religious, but I am in favor of human rights granted to all. When people practice religion in such a way that it interferes with human rights, then I stand against what they are doing, regardless of the religious reasons they give for it. On a lesser scale, if people sound hateful but call it Christian, I am under no obligation to respect their speech as truly Christian...more like, a wolf in sheep's clothing. IP: Logged |

And what's your point? The policy was enacted almost immediately after you started the thread. I had actually been planning to do so on my own for a while now, in particular with regard to the gender issue and the anti-Christian sentiment here. If you wish to protect Ami the best way to do so would have been to listen to us earlier, to protect her from the inevitable criticism that is heaped upon her, due to the fact that she is not qualified for the job.Some people are not qualified for a job. So, in essence, your petition was a ruse. What you really wanted was for Ami to lose her Modship. Correct? The petition is what the petition states, including the request for proper moderation. There is no ruse. I would caution people against posting here considering the draconian penalties for any misstep. Randall, it would only be fair if you make that caution  part of the forum description. Well then it looks like you have changed your mind about the enforcement of your new policy. Bigotry is something that cries out for healing, and if people show up here with remnants of bigotry, but prove to be receptive to warnings, why should they have to be banned? Faith fwiw I agree with you about the current moderator.I think you're right that not everyone is qualified for the job. For example, for myself I know I would not make the best mod because I'm not always the most diplomatic person and am fairly allergic to bull****. I think if the current mod were in possession of any self-awareness they'd realize they lack the objectivity necessary for the position and also harbour prejudices about certain religions, sexual orientations, etc. that make them ill-suited for leading such a globally-oriented site. With that being said, it's not our call to make. Randall wants her as a mod regardless of the fact that the majority of those frequenting her forum dislike her style of leadership and find it antagonizing, and we just have to accept that. I don't think asking for a reevaluation in more than one thread will accomplish anything and is only dragging this out, if I'm being honest. IP: Logged |

"Dragging it out" is one way to put it. Another way is, showing that lip service is not cutting it anymore, and the members of this forum are seriously questioning the ability of the current moderator to "moderate" one of the most personal and sensitive sections of LL. There are 2 ways this could end, either the moderator is changed or her behaviour is closely and fairly managed, or people just stop posting here, and Sweet Peas is left with topics by Ami about books and cooking. Whether or not you are a Born Again Christian, you do have equal voice to anyone else on this forum. But when you use it to generalise and negatively stereotype groups, like for example Muslims or gays, this translates to hate speech, which people will react to. ^ Yes.This has been getting dragged out for years. And I understand that people are tired of me saying these things. But since I opened this thread with Randall's name as the topic, I don't see how one could go onto this particular thread without expecting to see anything but myself and Randall talking? What I'm saying is, anyone who wishes to avoid me talking about this same old thing here, is free to refrain from clicking here. As for the forum, Randall artificially "ended" an ongoing conversation mid-stream with several lingering points that are unclear. If I didn't ask for clarification, someone else probably would have.
