When most people hear 'Alice' a few things come to mind; one of the most immediate has to do with a curious Victorian girl tumbling down a rabbit-hole, with the automatic 'in Wonderland' tacked on. Even though Lewis Carroll (the nom de plume of Oxford mathematician Charles Dodgson) actually named his titular heroine's debut 'Alice's Adventures in Wonderland' - at least when it was widely published in 1865.

Little has been stated about the asteroid bearing the name Alice, despite the popular relationship to the classic tale of youth, mystery, and mayhem.

Believe it or not, how Alice operates in the chart is rather straightforward. Simply put, she's our attitude towards the unknown.

By sign, she clues us into how we feel about unexpected circumstances. By house, where we're most likely to find ourselves 'tumbling down the rabbit-hole into Wonderland', as well as our fascinations, and about what we're most curious. Her aspects provide greater detail regarding what sorts of things - situations, people, conditions - we're to encounter there.

Wherever we find Alice, we feel a bit like our Vertex: very much out of control and struggling, albeit vainly, to make sense of things. Whatever goes on around Alice is something of a mystery, foreign to us; contrary to the way we like to do things. It forces us to realise our own powerlessness to affect or influence those things and situations - and how we feel about it.

Of course, she embodies our natural sense of curiosity and how likely we're to feel adventurous versus frightened or aggravated.

Secretly, she longs for the unknown. A bit like Pandora, though, she's bit off far more than she can chew. What remains to be seen is how well she handles it - overcoming her battle of the bizarre, or succumbing to it.

ALICE in the Signs

ALICE IN ARIES
The unknown is seen as a most grand adventure, indeed! This isn't a bad spot for our girl. She improvises, courageously volunteering to meet any challenge head on - at work, in leisure, or with others. Aggressively armed with her cardboard sword and pie-tin shield, she's pretty much ready for whatever skirmish in which she might find herself. Feisty, headstrong, and impatient, she doesn't look before she leaps, and is first to rush headlong into the fray. A bit domineering when it comes to relationships, she much prefers to lead rather than follow. Anyone.

The Caterpillar's advice is most directed for Aries Alice: keep your temper.

ALICE IN TAURUS
She's not too happy here, separated from her creature comforts and the security of the routine. The unknown means simply that: that which isn't known. She likes to know where she is, where she's going, who will be there, and that she's to have a pleasant stay. Taurus Alice likes being frugal so that she can go gourmet and splurge on certain luxuries. Stubborn and unmovable - if move she must, it's going to be deliberate and steady. She plans everything out in advance - and will continue to do so, even in the thick of uncertainty.

Like the Mock Turtle, she is rather sombre in her approach.

ALICE IN GEMINI
Curious and curiouser! This girl can't get enough of the new: be it information, new contacts, or novel locales - she's always on the lookout for it. Talkative, inquisitive, and optimistic, variety is the spice of her life, and she's most at home juggling a dozen different - equally uncertain and beguiling - things. Delays, missed appointments, traffic jams, and bad directions are nothing to this sprightly spirit. She may love sharing her tales of the unknown with others, becoming quite the diarist of her travels - near and far. She's got a higher likelihood of misplacing things than other Alices. Possibly a shorter attention span, too. ... Squirrel!

Like the White Rabbit, she's always on the run. And possibly late!

ALICE IN CANCER
Poor Alice cries what will become the Sea of Tears. There's nothing familiar about the unknown, by definition, and this Alice thrives on familiarity. The worst thing about being in uncertain times is that you're so far from home, security, and loved ones. She misses her confidantes and close contacts. Though moody and deeply bothered by unfamiliar circumstances, she's liable to use her intuition when the known is ripped from her. She's gifted with a sixth sense that will guide her through the woods, if she can trust her instincts. Cooking should be approached with a reckless abandon, though. She's got the best chance of tossing together some fantastic experiments. Be mindful that you don't worsen things by overreacting with strong emotion.

Much like the Caterpillar's previous advice to Aries Alice, keep your temper. In this case, avoid tantrums.

ALICE IN LEO
A royal position, indeed. Here, Alice dreams of her reaching the eighth square, eventual becoming Queen. She's got an odd knack for getting the help when she needs it, barely lifting a finger. It's as if others naturally recognise her regal nature and come to her aid. Of course, she could be part of that, being the most magnanimous, charismatic, and theatrical of the Alices. Her sunny disposition and dramatic demeanour seems to draw others to her, providing the assistance she needs right when she needs it. Keep any arrogance in check, and you'll never want for the admiration of others - no matter what curious circumstances in which you happen to find yourself. Nobody wants to help an entitled egomaniac, and your gregariousness is your superpower.

Just don't let it get to your head - or the Queen of Hearts will remind you it's best to keep it down.

ALICE IN VIRGO
Uncertainty could very well be unhealthy, dangerous, and in disarray - all things this Alice cannot stand. The unknown causes you to go into lockdown mode, determining the best course of action before taking a single step. Who knows what could be lurking? Obsessive-compulsive with a penchant for order, she comes prepackaged with a set of tools the envy of Girl Scouts everywhere; always prepared, without question. She asks a lot of questions, too, in a very calm, proper manner, of course. Speaking of manners, she has them at all times, lapsing into an even more careful and polite version of herself when she's not sure what's going on, or might come next. It may not even be organic, you know. Best not to take chances.

Alice's sister comes most to mind here, seeking to prepare young Alice for a wild, uncharted world: adulthood.

ALICE IN LIBRA
Grace under pressure. If she doesn't have the option of the buddy system, then her charm and civility get her out of plenty tight spots, her greatest skill lying in the area of relationships and interpersonal matters. A lovely hostess, she's eager to see that all are seen-to, no matter what chaos comes her way. Her ability to see many sides of a situation helps her handle the unforeseen circumstances which might creep up, gifting her with a bit of the strategist's eye. Her talent for cooperation and mediation soothes many ruffled feathers and bestows the means to avoid most angry scenes.

The White Queen, with her backwards logic, remains a friend to young Alice, thanks to her tactful handling of their disagreement.

ALICE IN SCORPIO
Much like her Aries cousin, this Alice is fierce in the face of the unknown and any danger which may lurk. She won't leap, though. She'll cautiously assess from a safe distance, manipulate, and devise. Her aim is to regain her power the moment it's lost. She simply can't fathom being out of control - even for a second. The one area in which she should allow it is in the bedroom, since she'll find a rather choice talent in matters of sexual intimacy. She's also not afraid to delve as deeply as possible into that dark, daunting abyss. Sudden changes are no more terrifying than actual violence. The unanticipated is where she tests her strength and mettle, and she welcomes the opportunity.

Queen Alice at the eighth square smirks and adjusts her crown, joining the other queens at the banquet.

ALICE IN SAGITTARIUS
Another adventuring Alice, this girl prefers to stay on the move, seeking out the unknown. It's the tedium of the familiar she finds far more frightening. Jovial, philosophical and roaming, she's fascinated by all people and things, wanting to do and see all she can. This includes knowledge and different points of view. She's liable to investigate all religions, faiths, philosophies and schools of thought - and never settling on a single one. Her humour and upbeat attitude keeps her free and clear of many scrapes in unpleasant situations - a tolerant and understanding air appealing to whatever peculiar characters she's likely to encounter along her many travels.

The wise Unicorn recounts the ever changing rules of his fight against the Lion, urging Alice to have a similar easygoing approach.

ALICE IN CAPRICORN
The unknown is too different from the known; delays and unforeseen circumstances are in the strict category of 'the undesired' for this girl. She wants everything steady, consistent, and managed: the trains to run on time, her schedule to be unchanging, the route to be the timeliest. She simply hates wasting time, and has no patience for those who are illogical, foolish, or in any way less serious than she. It's all serious business to this Alice. She's a mature, rational, pragmatic person with a purposeful approach. Anyone or anything that insists she 'go with the flow' or 'just not worry about it' will find their 'good advice' as effective as digging a grave with a plastic spoon. You're just too busy keeping to what must be done to be sidetracked by 'unexpected adventures' and detours of any kind. You have a plan, and you're sticking to it. You'll strategise, calculate, and formulate using solid evidence and anything quantifiable to track down, assimilate, understand - and most of all, explain - the unknown, uncertain, or even unknowable. This is clearly a fool's errand - but it's the way you cope best in such circumstances.

Humpty Dumpty offers logical, practical advice to Alice for navigating Looking Glass Land.

ALICE IN AQUARIUS
Not only is this girl always on the hunt for the weird and wonderful, the unexpected is where she thrives. The kookier, zanier, or less typical the better. Wonderland, alien worlds, or the myriad landscapes of the human imagination, this Alice surfs them all like a giant, colourful, glittering tidal wave. She's eager to ask questions and solve the most troublesome puzzles and riddles of the human condition - and beyond. Rather genius flashes of insight and flying by the seat of her pants is her chosen method for navigating the unknown. Everyone's her friend, and she's a friend to everyone. You're the type to make friends everywhere you go, and you tend to go an equally vast number of places. For this reason, you're unlikely to ever find yourself truly lost or far away from home. Home is where your friends are - and that's everywhere. Your motto is - they're only strangers the first time around.

The White Knight regales Alice with his own invention, inspiring her to find wonder and excitement in the mundane.

ALICE IN PISCES
This is a more iconic Alice, ever daydreaming by the lake, drifting off to imagine a world of her own, where rabbits wear waistcoats and are late for important dates. Her imagination and fantasy life helps her cope with the unknown situations she's bound to encounter. She has a powerful gift for creative visualisation, weaving stories of the many ideas that pop into her mind. She's also a champion for the underdog and quick to tend to others in need with her compassion and sensitivity. This Alice is especially adept at navigating the more beguiling locales, like extradimensional planes of existence or worlds only existent within one's imagination. Like her Cancerian cohort, she's got an incredible intuition and ability to ride the most uncertain waves, thanks to her powerful imagination and creative instinct.

Alice dreams of Wonderland by the riverbank rather than pay attention to her lessons.

... And there's the first draft. Hope you guys enjoyed it.

That's funny. You and the-one-referred-to-here-as-'Hatter'-for-obvious-reasons, (heh) both have Alice in Pisces. His is 3°. Heh, yours is right on my Descendant.

Lemme go ahead and do the last six.

All righty, and yes, well, he's the Hatter in more than one way, but we'll leave it at that since we are on the forum. I was wondering when you were going to post a thread about Alice the Asteroid.

Heh, you got that right. As to delineating Alice, it's been awhile since I've done any legitimate delineating. Took me a bit to figure her out; once I realised how much we all DO first think of 'Alice in Wonderland' when hearing 'Alice', I contemplated that she might be viably interpreted as such.

Let me know what you think.

wow, my Alice is on 9 Aries in my 4th house EXACTLY opposing my Pluto.

Even more

his Alice is on 7 Sagittarius on the exact same degree as my ASC, Lust, Wisdom, Angel. ROFL

Also conjunct my Mars, Neptune, NN and Atlantis, and his own Mercury-Musa-conjunction.

I am the great unknown to him? lol

LOL
His Madhatter is actually widely conjunct my Alice (3°33)

They are also loosely parallel (1°)

In the first meeting chart, ASC was widely conjunct his natal Alice, and IC exactly conjuncted my natal Alice.

Also, in this chart Alice was on 7 Gemini, exactly conjunct my DESC, opposite his Alice and conjunct his Soma.

This aligned with the Endymion-Selene pairng, our transiting names as wel as the progressed Eros/Psyche-conjunction. lol

(If I look even more deeply, I can`thelp but notice LIlith-involvement either. lol)

Well at least I certainly felt as if I had gone down some sort of rabbithole.

And since you mentioned Pandora,
his Pandora is conjunct my Pluto, opposite my Alice and his Madhatter.

When we met Tr Pandora was exactly conjunct my Madhatter and quinkunx his.

Oh, I just remember.

My name in the composite is exactly conjunct hsi Madhatter; his name in the compositer is exactly conjunct mine. ROFL

LOL I guess today must be some rabbithole, day,

I just looked up Mr Law`s chart out of curiosite,

his Alice conjuncts my Madhatter by 1 degree

his madhatter squares mine (right on my Pallas. lol) and sextiles my Alice, which in turn falls onto his IC exactly.

In the composite Madhatter on 26 Sag is squeezed between Venus on 24 Sag and NN on 28 Sag, and upon seeing this, did we already have that conversation some time ago?

Something feels quite Deja-vue about it.

BTW today Tr Pandora is going to join the Venus-Pluto-conjunction in the Chart.

Tr Madhatter on 3 Cap
Tr Alice on 27 Cap

Ceri and Cappy,

Alice uses the tools in her box (indicated by the aspected points) coupled with her natural inclination (the sign) to handle the weird circumstances, inexplicable and unknown (determined by house).

Ceri: his Alice being bombarded by so many of your points indeed sends him 'down the rabbit-hole'; you're an ever-unfolding mystery in the areas represented by those particular points. Lust, ASC, and Angel, for example. You may seem quite the ethereal being to him, which he can't quite grasp fully, but loves trying, as a Sag placement has no trifle with the unexpected at all.

Two Alices in harmony is more useful than first thought. You're both liable to take on the unknown in the same fashion. Two Fire Alices will be bold in their approach; Aries and Sag being a rather swashbuckling, brazen duo.

Alice making aspects in the natal gives her tools for making it work - or worse. A heavily aspected Alice belies a curious, inquisitive individual.

Alice-Moon indicates your own emotions can help or hinder your progress. Do you overreact or are you able to adapt?

Alice trine Moon indicates someone whose natural intuition can provide wonderful insight for reading a situation and others. No matter her initial take on things, she can tap into her emotional reservoir and 'feel it out'.

Naturally, Mars adds a warrior spirit - or bad temper.

When trine, it gives a touch of the martial. You're willing to fight - and defend - yourself in unfamiliar surroundings. No shrinking violet there. You may have 'beginner's luck' in more things than most. Mars gives an oomph and talent for taking the right action in taut uncertainty.

I can imagine Alice-Mars to make good fighters, gamers, law enforcement, and emergency response personnel. The unknown doesn't daunt; you just take it as it comes - often emerging smelling like a rose.

House positions will best determine where you're most likely 'in uncharted waters' and how you'll use those Martian gifts to combat the circumstances.

EDIT: Ah! Square Mars. Yes, that just brings in a temper. So, you're a bit of a mixed bag; on the one hand, eager to explore, and on the other - with a very limited patience for obstacles encountered. Much like the original Alice herself.

Holding your temper back will categorically make the journey smoother.

Loffra,

Do you find yourself daydreaming a lot to handle the 'Wonderland' that is your homelife? Pisces Alice has some innate escapist tendencies as her first defence against the unknown, inexplicable, or unresolvable.

Venus gives you the gift of charm and mediation. You may also wish to spruce up your circumstances to make them more livable / able to navigate - either by adding art or even making it yourself. Alice-Venus has a need to create beauty in the face of adversity.

Indigo,

" Alice being bombarded by so many of your points indeed sends him 'down the rabbit-hole';"
LOL
Am I mean if I say I really like that thought?

"You may seem quite the ethereal being to him, which he can't quite grasp fully, but loves trying, as a Sag placement has no trifle with the unexpected at all."
I can actually see that. It probably does not help that my Neptne squares his Mars. lol
Actually his Alice is squaring his Jupiter-Mars widely (2-3 degrees), but definitely is intersecting his Amor-Eros-opposition, running from 9 Virgo to 8 Pisces (with his name being on 9 Virgo and my name in his chart on 8 Pisces, too).

" You're both liable to take on the unknown in the same fashion."
Yes, that is a curious thing, though. Iw ould never consider myself being the Aries-type (though my Draco is drenched in ARies, as well). I am usually so hesitant, careful, anxious i think.

However, people noticed that, despite my usual anxiety and carefulness and keeping out of everything, sometimes it is like a switch gets pulled, and I will act very impulsively, and for most people who know my cautious Self, unpredictable.

That is rather Aries-to me, in these situations. Well, I may be circling around the rabbithole, analysing the pros and cons and the method to get down there safely and not ever thinking of REALLY going down there, and knowing that it is all theoretizing, and listening to all the reasons why NOT, and listening to my caution, and then when I am feeling safe, relieved, knowing it will NOT happen, then sometimes there is a moment, when my thinking sort of just stops, and I am reacting to whatever stimulus ever. Itis THAT moment that makes me plunge into the hole, headfirst, and later wondering why my head is hurting and how on earth I even ended up there to begin with. (as the plunge had not been a conscious rational decision, but some impulse or instinct taking over).

It is this impulse that made me approach him that evening. Or approach another actor and ask him if I might shake his hand. Believe me the moment I heard myself sayin these words, I was even more surprisd than him. LOL

" Aries and Sag being a rather swashbuckling, brazen duo."
He reminded me of something. He reminded me HOW Much I used to love pirates and knights and swordfighting. SWordfighting, whoa!
Seriously no better foreplay than this.

No clue where THAT came from.

Anyway, maybe it is a coincidence, but he seems to like this kind of roles, too. He played many of course, but just this and nxt year D`Artagnan and also Artus. Oh and not to forget Radames, unforgettable, his Radames, a fantasy from many years ago, when I was almost still a child, coming to life, unfolding in front of my very eyes, embodied by him. It was almost surreal.

Well I guess I have a thing fro knights. Makes sense iwht my Aries-Alice I suppose.

It falls onto a very focal point in my chart, usualy the guys that REALLY affect me have something there. He has his Ceres there (well, and his Draco Mars-Jupiter-Amor-his-name falls there as well. lol)
The one who became the pattern for all crushes for many years before, had his Mercury-Eros-conjunction at that point.

Well, it DOES trigger a lot in my chart.

My Alice, not only opposite my Pluto, but also trine my Neptune and NN of course, oh and I forgot conjunct my Giza (yeah, I know, Egypt AGAIN), but also squaring Spirit, Guinevere, ISis, Osiris (Sorry I know it gets too much.

Focus on the relevant. Pluto. (btw conjunct Transylvania on 7 Libra. lol)
Neptune. Sextile Pallas on 9 Aquarius.

Golden Rectangle, involving Pluto-Alice-opposition, and NN-SN-axis (along the relationship axis, involving NEptune, and Atlantis and Lust and Wisdom and Angel of course).

Alice in my 4th house, Pluto in 10th, but ruling the 11th and 12th. Neptune ruling 3rd and being in 1st.
My Alice likes to get to the root of things. Plunging down, which is apt symbolism for the 4th house as it (well the IC) is at the deepest point in the chart, root of the soul.

Interestingly in HIS chart Alice falls into the 8th house (though nearing the 9th house cusp on 10 Sag I think), which of course means that my Mars, ASC, Lust, Angel, Wisdom and what do I know are in his th house as well.

Also, my Alice fals into his 1st house (Though not conjunct ASC), his Alice conjuncts my ASC.
We are curious, intrigued as to what the other is really bout?

For me that is true, noone ever managed to keep me on my toes at long as him, I am STILL intrigued, and despite my compulsive obsessions now and then, they tend to be intense but rather shortlived; him? He keeps me entertained and intrigued. Which probably is the true way to my heart. LOL
Keep me entertained enough that nothing else might seem more interesting, only way to make me stay (or keep my attention).

Anyway I find it interesting that my Alice apparently has Pluto and Neptune in her toolbox. The both planets that are dominant anyway, falling onto the angles of the chart (ASC and MC).

I have Alice-Vertex, too. Alice is gonna get a bit of a push from the GC; a little touch of superhuman something-or-other. Do you find you have a talent for overcoming the bizarre, rebelqueen?

Saturn helps offer some stability. In a world where time runs wonky, you've at least got a watch handy - or can get one. When up becomes down and down sideways, you at least know how to keep your feet on the ground - whatever 'the ground' happens to be.

Alice-Node-VX is interesting. How you handle the unknown is key to resolving the mysteries of your fate. Your soul's evolution is deeply involved in tackling the uncharted and inexplicable. Alice-Node must move towards the danger and unknown - rather than away from it. And what's more unknown than the North Node?

Alice/VX is a double dose - an inescapable / inevitable one. Your fate is ultimately tied to combatting the unknown - going down that rabbit-hole and through the looking glass. Encountering, understanding, and making (as much) sense of the unknown is part of your destiny.

Of course, at the Vertex, we feel out of control, and Alice is already battling the unknown. House position, aspects, transits, progressions, and synastry affecting this point give greater detail to the unfolding story.
