I like the terms Juniperb uses, four-leggeds Some may be two-leggeds, three-leggeds, no-leggeds . . . Some furry, some feathery, some with smooth hard shells . . . This thread is created for us to share health and healing tips and stories for our friends. I hope this will serve as a convenient source for Knowflakes to access information. IP: Logged |

What a wonderful idea Aphrodite I had to choose a term that wouldn`t mislead folks that thought I was talking about my two legged children . I too was confusing and that clarified it for them. juniperb IP: Logged |

Glad you like this Juniperb!Does anyone have naturally healthy ways to reduce/eliminate fleas? Heidi mentioned boric acid. I have a small carpet Willard literally lives on. Would this be safe? Randall have you tried the brewer's yeast mixed in the food with your dog(s)? A. IP: Logged |

I presently have no animal friends. I have never tried brewer's yeast, but I hear it works. ------------------ "Never mentally imagine for another that which you would not want to experience for yourself, since the mental image you send out inevitably comes back to you." Rebecca Clark IP: Logged |

Aphrodite, Brewers Yeast is a staple in all my four leggeds diet. They just love it and it keeps their fur so soft, their skin healthy, helps with excessive shedding as well as flea prevention. Heidi would have to fill us in on Boric Acid. All I know about it is it`s a wonderful eyewash. Flea elimination takes time in the natural way, but well worth the effort. Prevention is quite simple. Blessings upon blessings, in all these years, I`ve only had one nasty go around with them. For current fleas I use a old Dutchmans recipe called Leeuwenhoeks Flea Powder whick I make myself. It is: EQUAL parts of these dried and crushed herbs. Euccalyptus, fennel, fleabane, garlic, onion, rosemary, rue, tansey and worm wood. I grow most of it myself, but you can purchase the herbs at (if you can`t find them local) Indiana Botanic Gardens, po box 5, Hammond, IN. 46325. Phone: 1-219-947-4040 Comb fur backwards and dust paying special attention to back, neck & underside.. Recomb fur blending it in well. 3 or 4 times a week til all gone. Your four legged will love the extra attention You can also get excellent products at Holistic Animal Care, 2100 North Wilmont, suite 109, Tuscon, AZ 85712. Phone 800-497-5665. They have about anything natural you would ever need. Flea prevention is garlic and Brewers yeast in food. A necklace of penny royal with garlic oil sprinkled on it should be worn outdoors. Inside, sprinkle natural pyrethrum from crushed chrysanthemums around baseboards, their sleeping area or where ever else you think needs it. For bathing as part of prevention, use use a natural shampoo & mix in: a few drops tea tree, eucalyptus OR pennyroyal oil to the shampoo. Never put the oils directly on the skin!! They smell good, are healthier and happier and best is no chemicals to poison them with juniperb IP: Logged |

Hi Juniperb,I am going to a health food store after work today and will be getting those herbs To the list is getting non-toxic dish soaps I used to use before another roommate started buying supplies. Some in the house are washing "hard to remove" stains with Comet! Isn't this product poisonous? I thought it is only used for toilets, bathtubs and sinks. A. IP: Logged |

Since my dogs will snack on anything, I treat all commercial products as poison & keep them locked away. If Thunder will eat a bag of onions, Comet would seem dessert to him I can`t imagine using Comet for any other purpose than you mentioned. It leaves too much of a residue. juniperb IP: Logged |

Hi Aphrodite ,I know I don`t feed my friends an ideal diet according to the naturalists. I do the best with the time & funds available to me. I have 9 of my own and many pass thru here waiting for a new home. I belong to the Purina Pro Club and feed my canines Preformance and Large breed Pro Plan. I supplement with Brewers Yeast, garlic, boiled chicken, cottage cheese, brown rice, eggs, all vegetables, fruits and homemade biscuits. This rounds out the diet and they don`t eat as much processed food but enough to get the dietary needs met %100. Pro Plan for the kitties too supplemented w/ Brewers Yeast, garlic, yogurt, eggs, rice, all vegetables, fruits, boiled chicken w/ organs. My four leggeds grew up eating this diet so they love it & I have no problems. Each of my companions have different needs, so some get various supplements according to the specific need. But this is the general diet for them. juniperb IP: Logged |

Parvaid http://www.ambertech.com/index2.html They used to have a recipe on their site to use until the bottle arrived, I don't know if it's still there. They sent out a bottle trusting that we would pay them the following day, because we needed it urgently. So wonderful of them. Angie IP: Logged |

Juniperb I'm impressed with the sound nutrition your friends enjoy. My mom fed our dogs table leftovers Chicken bones included. Hmm, I asked questions about their food to her, but she was set on her ways without regard to considering other possibilities. Willard is fed commercial pet food (Natural Balance and Wellness), and so far I am pleased with the results. I am not confident in making homemade cat food with the supplements they need, as I am afraid I may do something wrong. I noticed that after a month on Wellness, his coat looks a lot better post-surgery. He got a compliment yesterday from a roommate's friend IP: Logged |

Yay, you go Willard!! Natural Balance and Wellness are both excellent products!! Can you imagine my costs if I purchased it by the hundreds of pounds Chicken bones are a no-no, but my folks fed scraps too, bones and all. They always seemed healthy enough and lived to ripe old ages. Go figure. juniperb IP: Logged |
