You reminded me of this one:

I've gotten better at it here.

Tonight I'm finishing up a large batch of the wet food I make for my dog. It's delish and i have to stop myself from eating too much of it. LOL (no seriously)

Last night I baked some chicken wrapped sweet potatoes for her, (also delicious ) since they are her favorite and I feel better making them myself instead of buying the store bought ones made in China that often get recalled after sickening or killing dogs.

Next up are a bunch of baked crunchy treats that I also might end up munching on myself ( i can at least test them!). It's the first time I'm trying to make them and I'm sort of winging it after researching a bunch of different recipe options.

Banana Nut Oat Honey & Pumpkin
Chicken Rosemary Sweet Potato
Turkey Carrot and Chia Seed

blends.

They'll make nice x-mas gifts too.

As i was jotting down different ingredients to work with, i was thinking about how i'd bag/jar them up all pretty with ribbon etc. and make tags with a list of the ingredients and started coming up with some pretty funny names for them. I've got 5 solid recipes in mind, i think. Maybe i'll share the finished products later if i remember to take pics.

I don't mean to rehash things but... T, I just need you to know that I actually cried of laughter at this. I was actually unable to breathe. I'm telling you this because it was a much needed laugh and I owe it all to you!

You're too awesome!

You know just the right words to say to people at the right time and that's a gift.

btw for anyone that might've been grossed out at the idea of me eating "dog food" , it's pretty much like a stew....of sorts. All homemade human grade, all natural ingredients. This particular batch consisted of:

turkey, chicken, brown rice, spinach carrots, garlic, sweet potato, beets, pumpkin, apple, blueberries, eggs, manuka honey, rosemary, thyme, basil, parsley, chia seeds, coconut oil

I didn't add chicken liver or hearts or egg shells in this one. If I did, I would not have eaten it. I was grossed out by the mere smell of the chicken liver cooking last time and it gave her weird sh*ts, so i left it out on this batch. I know some people are into chicken liver, but the thought of it alone turns my stomach. I had a hard time even handling it the first time i used it.

The above combination might sound not so great but you might be surprised at how good it tastes. My dog definately eats better than i do.

I am eagerly awaiting my first shipment of this:
http://www.a1petsupply.com/secure_html/aa-supplement_seameal.htm

Dog, Cat and Horse guardians might want to look into it. I might give a review in the animal forum here a few moths from now.

I ordered mine from amazon and it has a lot of good reviews. Hoping she doesn't turn her nose up to it.

I wanted to get this supplement on recommendation of some other people who make their own dog (and cat) food, but it's a bit pricey, so i started researching what else was out there and went with the Solid Gold Seameal. There's another popular product that seems good, but I could only choose one and after reading many reviews went with that one. The amount of trace minerals, amino acids and enzymes should be adequate in supplementing anything she might be missing in her cooked food & dry food diet. (even though she gets plenty of raw veg treats)

I should probably start a thread in Heathcliffes Corner about this.

Besides an itchy ear issue that has now gone away, my dog doesn't seem to have any health problems. I'd like to keep it that way and keep her feeling healthy and strong. So that's why i'm investing in this product. And a new, healthier dry kibble food for her. I agree with the advice that dogs and cats should be given a combination of wet and dry food. Definitely not live off of dry food alone.

here's an informative video i saved awhile back:

I tried making stew for mine, and they just gave me dirty looks. Not that they were that happy with the raw food I used to make for them, either. I've been making things again, here and there, since Dora got sick and then passed on, just trying different things. My cats eat crackers - I don't know why - they will steal them, in the way that I might go for cheesecake - and Walter and the cats finally ate one sort of stew that I made back in the Spring. I need to try again.

I used to be into the supplements, and wish that my brain wasn't so fried. I have Nupro in the cupboard, and I want to try Pitcairn recipes again. I have eggshell waiting to be dried and ground up, just as I used to do at least once a week. It seemed like my dogs felt better when they had the homemade food every day.

I'm so tired, I need to get to bed. I'm having one of my rare good nights. Dad took me to get a Christmas tree this evening - I haven't done that for ten years. We almost came home without one, meaning to check nurseries tomorrow, but then Dad found one that he liked at Lowe's. We made sure to get one with a lovely natural smell to it - Mum and Dad brought one home as a surprise, four years ago, when I was really upset, and hadn't been able to leave the house due to my sleep schedule being all messed up (and other things happening at the time had me upset). It had no smell, though, which to me, is part of the point of having a real tree. So if we can get the lights working on the fake one again, we will have two trees this year.

I made lentil soup tonight, with homemade chicken broth, and will be trying to make something for the dogs tomorrow. I'll post a link to the parsnip soup I'll be making, as well, if I didn't a few weeks ago. Mum loved it.

I hadn't heard of Pitcairn recipes before so I just did a search:
http://dogaware.com/articles/wdjhomemade1.html

Thank you! I've only skimmed it so far, but it seems very informative and helpful.

Yeah, my girl seems to do better with a home cooked diet included into her daily routine too. I'm not sure how i feel about the raw food diets that seem to be popular with some people. I'm adding less rice now, because they don't really need it and wouldn't eat it in the wild.

Nice that you found a tree!

I'd love that! I don't ever make soups, but would like to try

Going to read up at the link now......

I'd eat it, too!

Your pup is lucky!

I tried making cat food for our kitty but she was snobbish about it and I just didn't have the patience to keep trying.

She does eat the wheatgrass I cut and bring inside, and some raw chicken now and then.

I suspect she is eating my aloe plant but I'm senile enough not to remember the length of each leaf...the whole plant just seems to get longer then shorter, longer and shorter.

LOL & yeah she found a great owner in me, but i feel luckier to have found her (which is actually how it happened). She was the runt of the litter and I've basically been adding different kinds of super foods into her diet since i got her at a few month old.

At this point I'm pretty sure i could simply strap a cape around her neck and wouldn't be surprised at all if she then outstretched her little legs and took off around the room and then took off out the window to go on to save the world. She's that powerful and healthy now ( i credit the bovine colostrum & goji berries for that ). It wouldn't even faze me if that ever actually happened. lol I just hope she wouldn't forget me after becoming famous.

K, bedtime.

may be be back tomorrow with a cup of coffee to reply more seriously.

You are so kind to say this about me, really... It means a lot and is one of those things I will probably remember forever. I rarely forget the things people say to me.

Also, your humor is legit. I think it should be a law to thank the person that makes you laugh. SERIOUSLY! If you push the right buttons, I could laugh for a good 15 minutes... Yepp, I can be very relentless in that way

My cat, Cutie, is missing. If anyone here could send good "please go home, Cutie" vibes this way, I'd really appreciate it. I haven't seen him since early yesterday morning (Tuesday).

Oh no... My heart just sank. I hope Cutie shows up sooner or later. Please, Universe, send him back to teasel. I too have a kitten and would be mortified if that happened so I'm truly hoping he shows up...

Keep us posted on what happens

Teasel Sorry to hear that, sending you good vibes.

Let me just say: %*$*#*@*@*$*%*!!!!!!

I don't even know that means ^ lol.

I spent SIX hours today taking an exam. I literally feel drained and exhausted- I don't think I could have done anymore. Hopefully I pass and it pays off. Failure to me is never an option, so I wasn't leaving that room until satisfied. So glad to have this weight off of my chest,

I'm free though- done with exams!

lol

I hear you both. Been there. I've made batches where she looked at me like "wtf is this sh*t? Neeeext!" But she's also finicky and spoiled anyway. Her bestie gobbles everything I make right up, but he's a typical dog that you could put anything in front of and he will wolf it down. She on the other hand is more choosy with what she wants to eat.

Other batches i've made she devours, so i'm getting better at finding a good balance between what she likes and at the same time what is healthy for her. I'm getting closer to a recipe that is right for her and one she enjoys too.

btw, the Seameal came in and she loves it - on both wet and dry food. She's also obsessed with the banana pumpkin treats.
