Art of Noise is awesome. I have a CD of theirs that now sells for 70 - 80 dollars at amazon.com. I just went to check again. The price range for the used ones is now $58.99 - $94.45.

Last night I finished re-reading Chuck Klosterman's book for the fourth time... "Fargo Rock City."

I am all awash in nostalgia, for even though the book focuses on glam metal, the author is nearly the same age as me. I certainly was not into the metal at that time- I am in the 80s/90s camp of Cure-DepecheMode-Smiths-etc and all the lovely pop wonders.

Its cute to see this thread here.

But I must admit...
I have driven about 5000 miles this break, across the South West and North West US. There's been a seminal change in classic rock stations across the country (maybe its been this way for years now, but I can't get radio here in the Park) and all they play is 80s and 90s metal.

OMG- I loved it. I loved it when GNR came on in the middle of the Nevada Desert. I loved listening to Soundgarden, screaming through Boise ID at 90 mph. Yes, I sang along to STP and even *gasp* Poison.

Please don't tell my friends.
I will totally lose my cool kid cred.

*end of thread hijack*

YAY! FUN thread, Mannu!

AG...love your choices...
Art Of Noise

The Cure

New Order

Bauhaus

The Smiths

Talking Heads

I didn't realize after I left L.A. that most people outside of CA don't know who "Morrisey" is. (In LA, at least when I lived there, he was worshipped as a God! )

YFS..Against All Odds...That song and the movie were all the rage! (That and "The Thornbirds!)

Love the Depeche Mode video, Silverstone! Got to meet Dave twice. He has a small frame, but a big presence! I have to say that the glowing eyed chorus in that Bright Eyes song always freaked the livin crud out of me!!!

Mannu...Uh Huh's "Take on Me" is the first memory I have of MTV.

How about Kaja Goo Goo/Too Shy: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3P6I4pT_tVA

Falco/Rock Me Amadeus: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l8jiJXkcAwA&feature=related

Yes, YES!!!

Thank you 8th!

For years I've been trying to remember who did the "Too Shy" song!

And here is the original version of Falco's - Rock me Amadeus
(The words are actually posted into the comments section too, LOL!)
And this live version is my favorite:
Falco - Rock Me Amadeus (at Hits des Jahres ´85)

Very nice, thank you 8th!

YFS!

Great links! Did Falco also sing that "Don't Turn Around" song? I saw it on YouTube as DerKommesar and also Falco.

Have some more...

"99 Red Balloons" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=14IRDDnEPR4

"Pass the Dutchie" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pYTQcVeoiyA

"Play Guitar" (John Cougar pre Melloncamp!) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VRl78By1ZqA

Couldn't find an original video for it!

"Electric Avenue" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vtPk5IUbdH0&feature=related

"Tough Guys" REO http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GFaTxjrzTk4

Bad Video again...

"Girl You Know It's True" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GSqV3rWM4iQ

One of my favorites..."They Want EFX" with all of the great references to stuff we grew up with! My favorite is the "Pretty sneaky sis" from the Connect 4 board game commercial! My brother still says that to me! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VRl78By1ZqA

I grew up in Orange County myself. I was under his spell, too. He could very well be a Gemini with a Cap ascendant, and I'm the opposite.

Information Society - What's On Your Mind? (Pure Energy)

Club Nouveau - Lean On Me

Wham! - Everything She Wants

Art of Noise (again) - Peter Gunn - All the local High School bands seemed to pick this song up around or after Art of Noise released their version.

Bow Wow Wow - I Want Candy

Stephen Tin Tin Duffy - Kiss Me With Your Mouth

UB40 - Red Red Wine

Siouxsie & The Banshees - Peek-A-Boo

Squeeze - Hourglass

Herbie Hancock - Rock It

David Bowie & Mick Jagger - Dancing In The Streets

Guys and Gals thanks so much for contributing. Keep 'em coming. Wow I missed so many good artists. I grew up in India and they will only play mainstream music as AG pointed out rightly. This is so much fun to see and hear all that I missed.

Only 80s here please (anything goes rock/pop/metallic/international/etc) as I best connect to my teens in that era. Perhaps some one can create a different thread "I love the 70s/90s/00s" etc (just a thought)

EighthMoon - Yeah A-ha video rocks. That song and video just puts me in a different state altogether.

MK, I love GNR too. "Sweet child of mine" is my favourite song of their. If I am not mistaken its an 80's song.

YFIS - you simply shine beautifully

Silverstone - heh don't sweat, rest is important as well. We can always keep this thread alive.

lalalinda - thanks , I corrected that artists name on first page.

NAM - where there any metallic in 80s? AC/DC is metallic, is it?

Allright back to listening and watching some cool stuff.

Beautiful again 8th

Yes, the song is CALLED"Der Kommissar" it was originally done by Austrian born Falco back in '82
Original was version called: Der Kommissar and was considered "Austropop"
USA Falco Version #1
USA Falco Version #2
We in the states nicknamed it "Don't Turn Around"
Italian TV version
(Here you'll see where M C Hammer got his "Can't Touch This")
Quickly copied by Matthew Gonder - Der Kommissar (1982) and then one year later in '83 remade into an english version by the band After The Fire making it a big hit and first appearance here in the United States. Here's their version.(video was filmed in San Jose, California)
Later this song was done again by Laura Branigan with her version being called Deep in the Dark. Australia's top music charts TV show. It aired on 15 May 1983.

Another interesting note re; this guy:
Comments from spiritulists worldwide claim Falco was a reincarnation of Wolfgang. They're both Austrian musical prodegies who were two of the biggest Europian musical acts of their time. Both were known for a wild, innovative style and Falco did serious study in classical style before moving on to this kind of music.
Another great 80's song of his was " The Star of Moon and Sun "
*strange...
