Apparently it's time to start an I Love the 90's thread. (You know I love you. Blame my Virgo Moon) Hippy Chick was 1990, and I think Cracker was a 90's band, too. I just checked, and their first album didn't come out until 1992.Very good call on Yaz, though! And those 90's songs are still good. Gotta love the Smiths' [How Soon Is Now] sample in Hippy Chick. I think that's the only reason I paid attention to that song while it was out. Here's my daily addition: Katrina and the Waves - Walking On Sunshine Courtesy of my 80's afficianado girlfriend IP: Logged |

Whhhooooops! It's actually hilarious that you pointed out the Smiths sample in Hippy Chick...which is probably why my brain associates it with the 80's. And what's even worse...the friend that made me a cassette tape with Cracker (see this definition for those who don't remember what they are: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cassette_tape ) was a friend that I lived near in the 80's. In my Pisces brain...all's fair as long as you can segway! 8th IP: Logged |

Could be. They also did Istanbul (not Constantinople), and Birdhouse In Your Soul. They do love wordplay. I also like their song I Palindrome I. Oh, here's a video for their song Particle Man done by Tiny Toons. IP: Logged |

AG...Since I have a tendency to get addicted to shows, I've sworn off TV and don't even have cable! I haven't seen Flight of the Conchords, but it sounds like I'd like it! I almost posted the Presidents of the United States of America, cause I was just sure that "Peaches" was late 80's, but you would have busted me on that one too! (Now you're influencing me to check the accuracy of the songs! Your Virgo moon is effecting me!) Love the Istanbul cover! I'm bummed because I wanted to post "Understanding Jane" by Icicle Works and can't find it. YFIS, maybe Mystic is stopping the world to melt with you. (Had to 80's-ize that one!) How bout Honeymoon Suite... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nJBxxDSmXEA 8th IP: Logged |

They're a New Zealand folkish duo who craft these hilarious songs. I'm listening to them call themselves "Folk parodists." Hard to describe, and now I'm trying to find the perfect intro clip for you. They used to do a stand-up type show, and what grew from that is a musical HBO sitcom that incorporates their music. In it they're a New Zealand band trying to make it in New York. So do I give you a stand-up clip, or a show clip? Here's a stand-up clip, so you can get a full sense of their humor: Hiphopopotamus vs. Rhymenoceros Here's a very 80's/Pet Shop Boys-ish clip from their tv show: Inner City Pressure IP: Logged |

I died. The melancholy and synthesizers were too much for me to bear. http://youtube.com/watch?v=UXsIQYKO0Zw&feature=related Thank goodness for reincarnation!
I really could waste an entire evening enjoying this thread though, and I plan to do it soon (skipping that page that killed me last life). Why sit around in your room feeling sorry for yourself and/or cutting yourself when you can dull and/or escape your emotions with sex, drugs, and rock-n-roll? Sheesh. What are people thinking? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6NdAUnnU9Ac http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GdDxz2bkfhE http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5cGvzApDZKI IP: Logged |

I think maybe it's time to invade the 70's. I'm having trouble coming up with an ultra unique 80's band that hasn't been mentioned at the moment. Oh, here's one that I don't think has been mentioned: Gary Numan - Cars ...which brings up another band...has anyone mentioned these guys yet? The Cars (duh! ) - You Might Think IP: Logged |
