Admittedly I am lousy at figuring out riddles.

So I prefer giving you guys the challenges and let you rack your brains.

I will give you the answer when you either guess it right or plead for mercy for the answer.

Some are easier than others I think.

Challenge#1

A drawer contains 10 brown socks and 10 black socks.

In the dark, how many socks must you remove before you're guaranteed to have a pair of matching socks?

I would just turn on the light. Hee hee

You would think that it would probably be 4 but if you're an unlucky person it would be 6.
So I'm going to guess 6.

guaranteed?
12
lucky?
2
Or yeah...just turn on a light.

12 is my final answer.
If you remove 10 and having only 10 of each color...
logic dictates that two more,
ie; 12...
will let you have, for sure,
a matching pair.

So the answer is 12

Logically; 12 socks is correct as a guarantee

If it were me I too would just go without.

But technically if you are in the dark you don't have to remove any to have a matching pair, they all appear to match. The illusion is everything as long as you remain in the dark, LOL!

Thanks Mirandee

Will give you a hint:

The riddle asks for only one pair of socks. So how many would you need to make just one pair of socks?

Another hint: Both 12 and 6 are in the ballpark.

LOL @ Star and Moonie - sounds like the easiest way to solve the problem.

3

Black, Black, Black - Pair of Blacks
Brown, Brown, Brown - Pair of Browns
Black, Brown, Black - Pair of Blacks
Brown, Black, Brown - Pair of Browns

(I didn't need the hint.)

Correct, AG

The answer is 3.

You would have to get at least two socks that were a color match with 3.

But in the dark how would know which 2 out of the 3 actually matched? LOL

That's a true riddle right there. I guess you'd have to be able to feel the difference...which would then make your pulling three socks unnecessary.

Okay this one I think is harder:

Challenge #2

If a man and a half can catch a fish and a half in a day and a half, how many fish will 6 men catch in 7 days?

Please let me know how you figured out the answer if you get it right. We have been racking our brains on this one. They gave the answer but not how they arrived at it.

Duh!
My mind was on finding a pair of black socks!
I did not notice that the color of the pair is not specified.
Duh!
One only needs to pick out three socks to be guaranteed of getting a pair of either color!
Duh!

But if looking for a specific color.....
12 is the correct answer!

BTW...
Out of curiosity I tried it in reality.....
and yeah, 3 is the correct answer if a pair of either color is desired.
But 12 stands as the guarantee of getting a specific color.

1.5 men catch 1.5 fish in 1.5 days
therefore, (1.5 times 4) = 6 men can catch (1.5 times 4) = 6 fish in 1.5 days

Problem:
in 7 days, 6 men can catch
((6 fish divided by 1.5 days) times (7days)) = 28 fish

To double check:
7 divided by 1.5 = 4.667
SOooo 6 times 4.667 = 28

SO THEY WILL CATCH 28 FISHES IN 7 DAYS.

*Unless of course a Fish & wildlife warden is around then, they will catch "The Legal Limit", LOL!

On the surface, using quick math it looks like 42.

Let me work this out.

I think YFIS may be right. Yup, I'm pretty sure she's right.

Man that is a hard one!
Since one cannot have 1/2 a man nor 1/2 a living fish.
So I decided to not think of men, fish and days but just numbers.
Ok....
I see how AG got 42 at first glance.
6 divided by 1.5=4
1.5 x 4 = 6
6x7=42

OK...
6 divided by 1.5=4
So 4 x 7=28.

So YFIS's answer seems right.

28

The sock puzzle was easy.
When you know the answer.LOL.

Is it 24.75 fish?

I'm going out on a limb here because these puzzles are usually not straightforward.

1.5 men catch
1.5 fish in
1.5 days

that makes 6 men catch 24 fish in 6 days
for whole numbers of days, fish, and men,
6x4=24.
Add the 7th, day to have the 6 men getting 3.96
more fish for 2/3 of a the 1.5 which 1 day or the 7th. day, = .66 x 6=3.96 fish.
So maybe it is 24 fish for 6 days + 3.96 fish for the 7th. day rounded of to 28.

Or 6 men can catch 24 fish in 6 days so 24 fish divided by 6=4 which gives us 6 fish for 6 days + 4 more fish for 1 day,

which again = 28 fish!

I wonder what the trick is to this one?

Do you count 7 days as 7 full days or do you divide it by 1.5 because it takes 1.5 (36 hrs) to catch 1.5 fish?
The same question goes for the men. Do you count 6 men or only 4 men?

Challenge #3

A man transports a fox, a duck, and corn in a boat.

The boat is only capable of transporting the man and one of the other 3 with each crossing.

How did he succeed in crossing them all without letting the fox eat the duck or the duck eat the corn?
