I do believe in past lives, and I guess that can be reflected somehow upon the 12th. I would like to heard about your planets in that house and what you make out of them, whether past lives, hidden enemies, fears, or, as many astrologers say, whatever you cannot pin down, belongs to the 12 house.
As for me, my sun is in 12 together with uranus and south node. I guess having the sun there makes me want to just want to get away from it all to recharge sometimes. Its a need. I´ve come to think of uranus as the electric planet, and can give anxiety or restlessness out of the blue ( I hate that!! but I´m learning to welcome it and let it pass now), and that south node conjunct sun...
What about you guys? How do you experiment your 12th?
All the best

Hi,

I have my Sun, Mercury, Mars, and Neptune at the end of the 12th, beg. of the 1st in Sag.

Let me start with my Sun and Neptune, the strongest planets in my chart. I believe having them in this house gives strength to my Pisces moon. I also require daily solitary time to unwind. I absorb the noise and chaos of daily life easily, so taking time-outs is essential for me. This placement also greatly tones down my Fire. I'm very shy around strangers/crowds, it takes awhile for the playfulness of Sag to shine out from Neptune's veil.

On to Mercury and Mars. I don't think the 12th is such a good place for Mars. I tend to repress anger, hold it for a long time, and then just go off like a time bomb. I hate confrontations and fights. Merucry, aw Mercury my greatest weakness. Its Rx, and I suck at public speaking. I get shaky and stumble on words, and get anxious when I must speak in front of a group. I've always had a minor speech problem, and people are constantly telling me to speak up or slow down.

I have a stellium of Sun, Neptune and Jupiter in Sag in the 12th. Also a conjnction with Sun and Psyche which I don't know what it means, but I agree with Planet that it tones down the Sag outgoingness (plus with my Cappy rising) I am shy and introverted at first. It takes me FOREVER to warm up to people.

I have to have tons of alone time and sleep and I easily get frazzled when I can't escape from everyday life. I also feel a deep connection with my ancestorial roots and with "my people" as a heritage. I honor them more than I do the people of my time and follow an older guidance in times of upheaval.

Also I need plenty of personal space, physically as I can pick up other's energies too easily and find it hard to shake them off.

hi, I have Neptune in Scorpio/12th but it's very close to the 1st and according to some sites it's the 1st. I have been told by astrologers that I seem more 12th. I am introverted around crowds unless I have drink (yes I know) or unless I can speak my mind.

I used to be quieter until I said whatever popped into my head without editing, it hurts in some situations but it's easier in the long run to be honest about what's there. I sound flippant, but it's the only way I can be myself. I have mercury in gemini/7th house which helps a bit.

I also attract drinkers, and pisces people, venus, moon, rising. I tend to help them along in life and I have to take care of myself more to do that. However, as I get older I am more attracted to pisces energy-the healthy type.

In my 12th house, i have nothing. it is as empty as an... empty thing!

Pisces occupies most of it, starting at 12 degs in the equal house system, and extending to Aries 12 degs. It's been a few years since the peak of my interest, and i could never be bothered with the more complex house systems!

From what i've read in the past, the 12th contains all the things about our personality that we'd rather not face up to. i fact, it equates to the Jungian idea of the 'shadow'.

If anyone wants a brief rundown on houses, Wikipedia is your friend: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Astrological_houses
Apparently, the 12th House rules "Hidden motives, confinement, retreat, self-transcendence, service and sacrifice, escapism, charity."

But you are probably much more in the know than myself.

*mumbles* I must dust off those old astrology mags and books... :-)

Hmm..mine's ruled by Cancer and empty. It's funny though because most of the Cancers I've met have been rather evasive around me. Like I'd think they were my friends, but then they'd be suddenly gone, out of the picture...until I'd hear some interestingly shcoking news that I'd never expect about them. For instance, I remember this one new girl I befriended when I was in middle school and introduced her to my group. She adjusted really well to my aquaintances and everything but then I didn't see her after a while. I just heard she'd gone suicidal and had gone away. It also reminds me of this guy I thought could be trusted, yet strangely suspected of passing on my info onto someone else although I could not tell for sure. I could never really trust this guy with a cancer mercury either. I caught him in his lies...

But then again, I've had good friends with Cancer influences that mysteriously vanished into vapor <-- haha, to all the Cancers who decided to run away from me! Because they can't anymore as snails- don't ask.

what is your sign?

are u a cap?

just a guess though b'cos u talked about that secrecy thing .

cancers are not very good secret keepers in comparison to caps though they maintian undue secrecy.

I also have a 12th house pileup, sun/neptune/mercury.

The essential thing to remember about 12th house placements is that they grant the native a lot of power and influence over others, but the native simply isn't aware of their own abilities. The 12th house rules all things hidden, so in effect, a large part of the persons mind is even hidden from themselves. 12th house people are afraid of the dark, and lots of other things. We have incredibly rich imaginations and will take any small hint of fear and let it spiral out of control.

Unfortunately, those with 12th house suns must go through a great deal of isolation and loneliness, but many of us like it this way. At times we may get VERY discouraged and feel like ending it all. But a 12th house sun is a do over life, it means we may have committed suicide or not fulfilled our karma in the past life, so therefore we are repeating events, which means you CANNOT take the easy way out, or you'll hvae to do it all over again. The 12th house is the "DO OVER" house, our president has a 12th house sun, and he has a lot of power an sway, but he also is very deluded and deceptive in many ways, and also his presidency really is a "DO OVER" presidency to rectify his fathers failure in Iraq.

Many astrologers think that 12th house folks are very close to the gates of nirvana, at least in respect to whatever planet lies in that house, the end of a cycle is nearly complete. The 12th house person must endure the suffering and pain of whatever placement is in that house. If its a 12th house mars, you absorb all the anger around you, a 12th house moon, all the negative emotions etc etc. 12th house suns just get the whole kit and kaboodle.

Young 12th house suns will fall into some seedy situations and befriend some possibly unsavory people. We are drawn to a darker sort of energy, and we have a martyr complex. We like unhappy people because we think we can help them, or maybe we identify with them because we're intenrally unhappy quite often. We're also drawn to drug users, especially alcoholics, and also people who have borderline mental disorders. The 12th house person NEEDS to have 8th house and 4th house people around, or scorpios and cancers, to channel their energy into different avenues. The 8th house person can let the 12th house person see who they really are, and the 4th house person can teach us how to use our powers for the benefit of those we care about.

The 12th house is an incredibly powerful position, but it can also be very deceptive. One must be very careful about who one makes friends with, as we make enemies VERY easily. People often find a disliking to us for no apparent reason. They subconsciously fear our power and insights, of which we aren't even aware. The key to this house is bringing things into the OPEN. Imagine the sun hidden behind a veil, with only a few rays breaking through, then one day someone realizes the sun is there and pulls back the veil, revealing the full light of day. This is what the 12th house does to whatever planets lies there, it mutes that planets energy.

12th house people must pull back the veil. We are so inclined to withdraw from the world because we are so sensetive and easily hurt. We must stab through maya (illusion) to see the light of day. We get discouraged and wallow in self pity. But this is simply illusion, the 12th house needs to learn how to absorb all the good and bad energy they receive and add channel it towards to their incredible intuitive powers.

All your comments are very interesting, really. What I´ve gathered from how you experience your planets in 12 is basically that it feels as if energy is either pent up( as in mars)or weak ( as in mercury).
Blue roamer, very impressive summary. It rang a bell when you said that sun in 12 suffers from martyr complex. I´ve never felt that way, but I´ve been told sometimes ( to my astonishment!) I can also relate when you said that we "need" people in trouble so that we can help - been there-, and feel better, or even people with mental disorders ( is it because of our radar? as one astrologer told me).
I´ve been told before by a couple of astrologers ( not on line) that I was very powerful because of that sun, like a container for peoples vibes, but I´ve never felt that powerful at all! but it´s true that I need to just isolate myself every now and then, and it´s also true that there is probably a veil that covers my sun, as you said so beautifully, not because I feel unloved or rejected by people at all, but because I tend not to show the whole of me, not the shadow side, as Liz Green says.
I guess not all suns in 12 are the same, though, the sign must play a powerful role too. Mine is in libra, therefore in detriment, how do you feel yours in Gemini, Mystic, or yours Taurean Scorpio or yours in sag. Zoso ( I loved what you wrote about your deep conncetion with your ancestors)

well, i have jupiter 0 degrees gemini in the 12th (my 12th house is actually taurus) and it's retrograde! i've heard that having planets at 0 or 29 degrees is auspicious so i hope this is an ok placement hehe. what i do know is that jupiter is the ruler of sagittarius which is opposed gemini. i'd like to think this placement gives me unexpected spurts of luck!

MG, I think its a good thing to have the Sun in the 12th. I believe that for one to really appreciate the light, one must also have a knowing of the darker side of things. The shadow represented by this house isn't necessary a negative thing, just seems like it gets a lot of bad rap. I see it as destroying what is holding one back (even aspects of the self) and rising again from the ashes like a Phoenix.

Hi Zoso, nice to meet you. I have a late Sag Ascendent 29*, a lot of times I feel more like a Capricorn rising. Its funny how much I enjoy expressing myself here through writing, but in everyday life I'm such a shy person I can relate about honring the ancestors. I've always felt deeply connected to the past, as if I somehow don't belong in this time. My grandma was a Native American, and I love finding out anything I can about those ways.

BR, wonderful insight and very true on many points. I have often felt that my past life ended tragically or I was repressed from doing my mission. I've also attracted people in my life, who I felt compelled to help even when they didn't want to help themselves. That was a hard pill to swallow, sometimes people just don't want help, and by offering it you're being intrusive. Glad for the lesson, but yeah it was a harsh one. I'm always feeling empathic and wish I could somehow ease the suffering of the world.

Well. Personally, i like the 12th house, and hate it. lol It's certainly difficult for people who have it but as i'm growing "older" i am learning a lot of things and now i don't think it's all that bad. when i first got into astrology i was very frustrated because what i read on the 12th house was true..but i didn't want it to be. It was just too sad to acknowledge and to live with. but then i felt relieved at the same time because i knew why i was the way i am. I agree with Planet_Soul : "..for one to really appreciate the light, one must also have a knowing of the darker side of things.
I've got my Sun in Taurus in the 12th. I can't really relate to my taurean sun...except that i love food and that i'm "somewhat" stubborn. lol..and i love sensual things..so okay i guess i am taurean. but...i can't really put my 12th house feelings and taurean characteristics together...they're just too different. and the 12th house is so strong i think it dominates the Taurus. lol don't know if i'm making any sense.
I also have Mercury in Taurus in the 12th. This i can definitely feel. I am slow to catch things..but i've a deep mind. my thoughts are profound but like it says in The Twelve Houses..., i can't express how i feel. and my mind does seem chaotic and i don't make sense most of the time. also there is insecurity...which also means i don't like to speak in front of people unless i'm really close to and can fully trust them.
My Venus is in Gemini and in the 12th. I am..."supposed" to be wordy, witty, and quite the talker but i'm not. Um. I don't know how to explain this part of the 12th house...i haven't really been in love. but i do love puns (venus in gemini).
My Jupiter in Taurus in the 12th. This i heard is a lucky placement. I am supposed to be psychic but i am too young to know yet. however...i am very intuitive and get overwhelmed easily. and yes...retreating from my "daily" life is a must...or else i breakdown or get too depressed. i also get depressed when i'm tired and sick...but this would be my 6th houses.
the things i feel regarding the 12th house are: empathy, compassion, pain, suffering...(an urge to end suffering in the world..) and a willingless to understand other people..things like that. one thing i know for sure about the twelfth house is that: it's not easy to write about myself and just show it to the world like this...it's probably my (mercury in 12th) and (chiron in gemini in 12th house). Anyway, great thread. :]

bwt, Blue Roamer...loved your post.

xoxo Esther

Blue ~

Great post! Thanks for sharing your insights with us. I'm happy -- although that word seems ludicrous -- with my 12th house Pluto. I read once that Pluto there means that life-shattering transformation will be easier for me than for others, and I have found that to be true. The following is from Steven Forrest:

quote:
The best way I know to come to terms with the highest potentials of twelfth house planets in general is to think of them as our "master teachers" — inward spiritual giants that guide us, like kind gurus, into transcendent states of consciousness. Each planetary master teacher promotes in you a certain class of experience or perception which is customized to trigger evolutionary leaps. If you had Venus there, for example, experiences of human love or aesthetic rapture might be the ticket.

BlueRoamer - wow and more wow. So much of what you posted is true for me!
ie., ..."the 12th house is an incredibly powerful position, but it can also be very deceptive. One must be very careful about who one makes friends with, as we make enemies VERY easily. People often find a disliking to us for no apparent reason.

Hi Blue Roamer,

Thank you for posting it. Most interesting.

My best friend has Venus, Sun, Mercury in 12th house and, yes, most people surrounding here have all pretty crowded 4th/8th houses.

I have Moon/Pluto in 12th, which I really find hard time unifying. Taking emotions (own? others?)through hell? find emotional security through constant renewal?

Ladya22, how do you experience your venus? I only know a few details about it and they are vague, you know secret or "forbidden" love affairs. I only know one person with this placement and she cannot relate to that or regard it any particular way.
Hexxie, jupiter in 12 is like a guardian angel, lucky you!! I guess the fact that it´s rx must give you a "all is well" inner feeling, more than anything else?
Hveatch, your Pluto and Neptune are both at home, full power!!
Traditional astrology believes an empty 12 to be kind of "healthy" since there are no ghosts that haunt you in this life...
I´m happy to have a powerful 12, I don´t know why, but I am. I guess the key to astrology, at least for me, is to play a great game with the cards you´ve been given!!
