Hey all,
What's your favorite spiritual movie? By spiritual, I mean something that has a message that movitates you to live a better life, see things differently, etc.

Oh, I was gonna say "American Beauty", but I just remembered a movie I saw recently.

"The Notebook"

Anyone seen it? It's fantastic. Very romantic, and yet poingant. I don't know if it inspired me. "American Beauty" inspired me.

Dean.

Welcome!

The Notebook was the best film I have seen all year. WOW!!!!!! Not a romantic comedy like many great movies, but just a true genuine Love story.

Some of my other movies which has inspired me most was :

Contact (Jodie Foster) - The Occult Razor theory, just fascinated me. And I continue to use it till today.

Lord of the Rings - What I liked about the movie or book was that it teaches us that every one has a dark side to ones nature.

My next one I think I would like is Alexander the Great. I have always admired him and feel some connection to him. More so, when I came to know that we both may share same birthday after all

I saw The Notebook and I loved it! I didn't expect to be so moved by it. I want to love someone like that... the entire theater was sobbing through most of the movie when I saw it.

American Beauty is one of my all time faves... I adore Lester Burnham, because he reminds me of myself (ego much? heh). I feel like I really "get" his character But the movie makes you think about whats really important.

Another one I LOVE is As Good As It Gets with Jack Nicholson and Helen Hunt. I just love that movie so much. So many great quotes, let me find them because I will botch them if I try to recite them from memory...

quote:
Melvin Udall : I've got a really great compliment for you, and its true.
Carol Connelly : I'm so afraid you're about to say something awful.
Melvin Udall : Don't be pessimistic, it's not your style. Anyway, here goes: I've got this, what, ailment. Now, my doctor, this shrink I used to go to all the time, says that in fifty to sixty percent of cases, a pill really helps. I HATE pills, hate them. I'm using the word "hate" about pills. Anyway, my compliment to you is the night after you came over and said that you would never... well, you were there, you know what you said. Anyway, the very next morning, I started taking the pills.
Carol Connelly : I don't quite get how that's a compliment for me.
Melvin Udall : You make me want to be a better man.
http://imdb.com/title/tt0119822/quotes

Also, The Color Purple, Cold Mountain (possibly my favourite love story ever with two of my favourite actors Nicole Kidman and Jude Law), both Mystic River and 21 Grams (both with Sean Penn, interestingly) got me really questioning my powers of forgiveness, questioning myself really...

If I think of any more, I will post them...

Schindlers list was great!

This is gonna sound strange but I found a lot of Spiritual truths in the movie "Dogma". Especially the part where Salma Hyaks character says "It doesnt matter what you believe, just as long as you have faith" I also like when she says "You Catholics dont celebrate your faith...you mourn it" I liked that because I prefer to worship a loving joyful God rather then the vengeful and punishing God that it seems most people are pushing nowdays.

It's not one of my all-time faves, but I love Amelie.

What I notice is that most of the movies people love are all about having faith and hope in some form or another.

Oooooh! A movie I saw recently and vowed to buy on DVD because I loved it so much was Before Sunset with Ethan Hawke and the female lead's name escapes me. It's a love story, it's beautiful. I could watch it again and again.

I didn't tell you guys why I like Ten Commandments. Well I didn't like the commandments they are tough

But what I liked most was parting of the Red Sea. It gives me tremendous kick.

Also spiritually, there was an awakening within me to Love as well as Fear this GOD , who is unseen, and who could do such a thing.

My fav is 2001: A Space Odyssey...everytime I see it, it leaves me with a feeling of infinity.

Another one that leaves me with that same feeling is 'Donnie Darko', the new one.
