Bleh. 3rd attempt. I would have thought retro Merc would have hit me sooner since it's moving away from a square with my nMerc? Anyway.

Very briefly now: 8 languages in 3 levels. Top: English and Dutch. Dutch is my native language, English I learned since my 1st year on this world, mostly thanks to BBC. Middle: French. Not as good as it should be, considering it's the second most important language in this country, but my inability has mostly to do with lack of confidence and practice, both of which are being worked on in a language course. Bottom: Italian, Irish, Japanese, Spanish and German. I know a few words in each of these, but not enough to hold a conversation. I do, however, know enough to understand a few basic sayings and can understand sentences. Which is more than I know in most languages.

I am more capable of picking up accents than languages, but language and etymology interest me strongly. I also prefer writing over speech because I'm more elaborate in writing and it gets rid of my insecurities regarding sounding awfully unsophisticated when talking in an accent rather than the polite version of the language, which is a very strong issue with me when I speak Dutch. The accent(s) I speak in, are hardly considered polite, which makes people form quite a harsh opinion about me, which in turn makes me very insecure about how I come over. I also don't think I'm all that good at languages if you consider I'm really only fluent in 2 languages, and just happen to know more than the basic layman in those 6 other languages I mentioned.

Mercury in Sag/1st house conjunct AC and Uranus (ruler 3rd house), opposite Moon and Chiron in Gem/7th. Virgo MC. Very strong Merc.

And retro Merc, let me post this now. It's hitting my phone I tell ya, might be interesting to see the chart of the date I purchased this thing

I have a Sag moon/Cancer Jupiter mutual reception and a stellium in the 3rd.

Having Saturn ruling my stellium and half my chart, I feel like there is this great deficiency in growing up with only English, but I also heard Saturn was good for hard languages with trippy grammar.

What do i like, lol, I love foreign films so I like to be able to understand what they're saying without having to be misled...

Hahaha hard c. I like that yu say yu liek to learn it for yurself and not let anyone have to do it for yu or like crappy subtitles. Sometimes english speakers tend to still speak in an english way in a foreign language. Its good that yu know to add emphasis in certain places for words because speaking a language is about speaking spanish or whichever, and not the english way!

Ooo how do yu know Saturn is ruling yur stellium? And so how should Saturn be aspected for it to effect yu in a linguistic way as yu said with the trippy grammar?

Have yu tried learning other languages?

Aya, i used to live in Holland for over a year, and i thought at least i'll try to learn Dutch, but everyone passionately dissuaded me... everyone speaks English there and they were all like, "they won't speak Dutch with you because you're not fluent, so don't even bother".

but personally i really don't like the standard Netherlands Dutch, no offence (and i'm not the only one who says this!) but i personally feel it's the ugliest sounding language... southern Dutch and Flemish sounds milder and nicer.

i might someday learn Spanish, but i better polish up French first. i LOVE Russian though... but i don't think i'll have the time to learn it.

For the less condensed version,

-Fluent in Modern Day dialect of an old East African Language (Maravi)
-Fluent in English
-Rusty in Portuguese but can pretty much understand it because my first language is loaded with Portuguese loan words.
-Can understand Spanish for the previous reasons as well.

I used to have an aptitude for Italian and I've been given hope that its not all that lost due to a program I watched the other day, but I took 4 years of it in highschool.

Mercury is in the 6th (ruler of the 9th)
Mercury sextile Moon
Mercury trine Pluto
Mercury opposite Neptune
Moon in Virgo
Venus in Gemini
Mars in the 3rd

I don't understand the point of anyone studying other languages. I will tell you why. We are about to begin communicating with the universal language of telepathy.

So for the people who are wasting their time and are at the end of their wits trying to study and learn other languages so that they can be cool and say, "hey, I know greek and Arabic, I am amazing", there is no point lol.

i'm so uncool because i had to live in all these places and never learnt to be fluent with their languages. but these "cool" people learn these languages, whether they have the choice or not, because they are forced to learn them to survive. if they don't, they usually don't get on with whatever they are doing in these countries. maybe they are embarrassed that they unintentionally became "cool".

i see that you never had to be in such predicaments, Beth? lucky you.

My Gosh Johnson! You have a point! Yeah! Obviously the people who have to live in other countries needed to do this.

You know who I'm referring to. No? hmmm.

my guy, who's Stellium house is Virgo, speaks only a several languages (that's not that remarkable compared to a few other friends. i think most younger people living in big European cities speak at least 2 languages). he speaks German (native), English, passable French and Spanish. BUT he is really good at giving impressions. he's good at capturing the characteristics of a language (and the people who speak them too, lol) and "pretend" to speak it really good. it's funny.

i also started looking at the charts of my friends who just speak their mother tongue. but i got a bit tired now, so maybe i'll look further when i'm in the mood again...

I don't know what I was thinking when I wrote that, my mercury is in the second house. The sun is in the third.

If the people of earth were to choose one language what would it be? Something new or just a mixture of all the current ones.

I watched an episode of through the wormhole on science channel and it talked about how we all have this sort of telepathy! Something to do with the Eart's magnetic field and how our minds thoughts or feelings flow out onto it and its like a ripple effect! It was cool I wish I could read peoples minds though so I could know everything hahah

Loveless: if I would say that in the dialect I was brought up in, sadly enough you wouldn't recognise any of it anymore! Antwerp dialect should really be a different language altogether

Lechien: yeah I know what you mean. My ex was actually on about working in Holland exactly because he didn't have to learn Dutch. People tend to speak English to others here too, if those others can't speak Dutch. I have an awful habit of doing that myself, but if you live here and want to work here you NEED Dutch. You just won't get a job if you don't have Dutch. Except for Irish Pubs and building sites in the black, but that's a different matter

I have been told that before, about Flemish, that it is softer and nicer to listen to. It's a nice compliment but I'm afraid that if you ever hear me talk, you might change your mind about that. The Antwerp Flemish is quite harsh in comparison to other dialects. I personally prefer Limburg Flemish, it's so cute and melodious!

I love studying languages, especially dead or religious text languages. I designed a language and alphabet for my friends and I to write notes in, in high school.

I spent so much time learning dead languages I never put much time into learning modern ones. Several months ago I picked up Rosetta Stone and have been learning French, Spanish, Japanese, and Mandarin (when I get bored with one, I start working on one of the others). When I am done, I am going to pick up Thai, Vietnamese, Modern Hebrew, and maybe German.

My Mercury is in Capricorn (2 degrees) 9th House, opposed Jupiter in Cancer (3 degrees) 3rd House.
