I spent a little time compiling everyone's answers to make any patterns more evident. I tried to capture the essence of each answer for brevity's sake. Much of the philosophical commentary was more interesting than the short answer to my question, but I tried to keep this as concise and "on point" as possible. My apologies for the "hatchet job."

After reading your comments, I wish I had phrased some of my questions differently, to get more streamlined answers. Many of you are apparently smarter than me (no surprise! We're Capricorns!) so I will just rely on your (vastly underestimated) charity to forgive my shortcomings.

1. What is your opinion of typical descriptions of the Capricorn personality? Does it describe you well?

1. SM - " poorly aligned with the negative traits"
2. Luminosity- We aren't that shallow!
3. moonlightx- Typical descriptions... negative, bland
4. 12muddy- A bit general
5. cappy1277-Somewhat
6. Faith- Distorted overemphasis on work, ambition.
7. andstuff-Typical descriptions don't describe me well
8. YTA- Overall picture fits me
9. PC- They miss that "Capricorn is fourfold"
10. AG- Capricorn can extrapolate some of their personality via the typical description.
11. LD- Too superficial...don't describe me at all
12. b2s- No, it doesn't describe me well.
13. LW- Yes...evolved/unevolved people in each sign
14. R- Fairly well (I am heavily Cap)
15. M- Not described well: not selfish, materialistic, social climber
16. ISC- To some extent - yes.

Comment: Most of us feel that the descriptions don't describe us very well, but I think as a group we are able to have it in perspective: all people are complex, the whole chart applies, and so on.

2. On a scale of 1 to 10, with 10 being "extremely important," how important do you think regular schooling is?

1. SM- 7
2. Luminosity- paraphrase: school required for certain jobs
3. moonlightx- education is more important than schooling
4. 12muddy-5
5. cappy1277-EXTREMELY IMPORTANT (along with experience and hard work)
6. Faith- 3
7. andstuff- 10
8. YTA- waste of time, didn't prepare me for career
9. PC- true talent cannot be taught
10. AG- Not always BUT can be beneficial
11. LD- Good school (as LD defines it) 10. Otherwise - 0
12. b2s- 6
13. LW- 9
14. R- 10 for college
15. M- Important but should have fun
16. ISC- Depends on what you wanna learn.

Comment: I asked this question because I have seen it alleged that we only care about diplomas for status. These answers indicate, to me, that all of us are more interested in the substance of schooling, the learning process itself, and the usefulness of a degree, than having "boasting rights" about how far we got.

3. Did you learn about what you were really interested in, in school?

1. SM- some
2. Luminosity-I have always had problems with school.
3. moonlightx- Not particularly, not until I got to college.
4. 12muddy-Some of the things
5. cappy1277- Not in my formative years/college yes
6. Faith- Not really
7. andstuff- Yes, literature classes
8. YTA- Absolutely not
9. PC- No
10. AG- all of our experiences must be helpful in some regard
11. LD- No
12. b2s- interesting classes are available for me
13. LW- often found the subject matter interesting
14. R- Negative, but it's more than a trade, it's how to think
15. M- Not until college
16. ISC- Yes, but those things were a small minority.

Comment: Same as above.

4. In your opinion, do Capricorns tend to be very interested in metaphysical studies?

1. SM- Sign seems divided in half
2. Luminosity- no
3. moonlightx- not sure
4. 12muddy- not sure
5. cappy1277- Not really
6. Faith- Yes, most Caps I know are interested
7. andstuff- Not massively
8. YTA- Not for myself. Never had such an interest.
9. PC- I don't know if it's a Capricorn trait.
10. AG- No
11. LD- Yes
12. b2s- Yes ("off top of head"; knowing few Caps)
13. LW- Can't speak for others. I have always been interested.
14. R- Yeppers!
15. M- Not sure about others, I was always interested
16. ISC- don't know personally any other Capricorn interested; I've always been into this kind of stuff

Comment: I thought LL Caps would be in a good position to answer this, since we are all obviously at least somewhat interested in astrology. Also I have noticed that Caps tend to get along with each other...so I figured many of you would know many Caps with similar interests. I am genuinely surprised how many of you don't see Cap as significantly, strongly interested in metaphysics. This changes my view of Capricorn a bit.

5. If you answered "yes" above, do you think our interest in metaphysics is downplayed or ignored in most astrology books?

1. SM- Yes
2. Luminosity- Not true that we never think outside box
3. moonlightx- Probably so
4. 12muddy- In most astrology books that I’ve read , yes
5. cappy1277- Definitely
6. Faith- Yes
7. andstuff- N/a
8. YTA- Not applicable to me.
9. PC- Some do say that Capricorn has an interest
10. AG- No
11. LD- Most of them, yes.
12. b2s- I think our interest in metaphysics is kind of hidden.
13. LW- I strongly suspect ‘yes‘.
14. R- Indeed!
15. M- described as more of a cold, calculating realist
16. ISC- descriptions available on the net rarely mention the spiritual (don't mistake religious) side of Capricorns

Comment: Apparently we are tending to see a lack of recognition for the broadness of our interests.

6. Are you a hard worker?

1. SM- yes, we have phases
2. Luminosity- yes
3. moonlightx- yes
4. 12muddy- I fulfil my responsibilities/have good work ethics.
5. cappy1277-I can be...when interested
6. Faith- Sporadically, I obsessively work
7. andstuff- Yes
8. YTA- insanely hard worker
9. PC- I try to be as dilligent as I can
10. AG- Depends/Can be
11. LD- Yes... But if work isn´t enjoyable I won´t work.
12. b2s- It is all or nothing
13. LW- Yes. Systematic and driven.
14. R- Nope. I'm a smart worker.
15. M- Yes when interested. Can lose interest quickly.
16. ISC- If I enjoy it and/or believe it's worthwhile, then yes.

Comment: We all see work as important, but are particular about the terms, and seem to value accomplishment in areas that matter to us over our ability to just put in brute force (as if we are mere work animals.)

7. Be honest...do you use people to get ahead in life? If so, how? If not, does it annoy you to be accused of using people?

1. SM- Not exactly
2. Luminosity- No
3. moonlightx- No
4. 12muddy- No
5. cappy1277- Not in a bad way
6. Faith- "Not in a bad way"
7. andstuff- No, people use me
8. YTA- Most definitely
9. PC- Yes, I know this usually is taken in a bad context.
10. AG- Sometimes. If you think of it, everyone does.
11. LD- Never
12. b2s- May have...to not feel socially anxious
13. LW- Not really. Everyone has to depend on others.
14. R- We are not users, we're schmoozers. j/k
15. M- As much as I like winning, I dont like using people.
16. ISC- I don't think so. I don't like using people.

Comment: Happy to see that almost none of us use people in the worst way, but many admit to using in a "good" way. I think our honesty across the board shows we don't just react to negative stereotypes fearfully but thoughtfully, weighing the possibility that the accusation may apply.

8. Are you consistently there for your loved ones, even when you have to make great sacrifices to do so?

1. SM- Absolutely
2. Luminosity- There for them, but not self-sacrificing
3. moonlightx- Yes
4. 12muddy- Yes
5. cappy1277- Absolutely!!
6. Faith- Yes
7. andstuff- Never had to choose
8. YTA- Always.
9. PC- Yes!!!
10. AG- No
11. LD- Yes (much to my own disadvantage often)
12. b2s- I think so.
13. LW- Traveled too much to be, but plan to when married
14. R- If you only knew.
15. M- DEFINITELY
16. ISC- I'd be willing to make great sacrifices to help.

Comment: I hope other people read the above section. =)

9. In your opinion, is Capricorn more or less artistic than other signs?

1. SM- usually gifted with artistic talents
2. Luminosity- I am very artistic!
3. moonlightx-we're pretty artistic and this gets overlooked.
4. 12muddy: caps I know..have an appreciation for art
5. cappy1277- got my daughter interested in drawing and art.
6. Faith- one of the most artistic signs
7. andstuff- Less!! But I am more artistic than other signs
8. YTA- I have an immense appreciation for the arts
9. PC- I have talents but I do not cultivate them all.
10. AG- More. Libra is in our Solar 10th house.
11. LD- Less (if so, musicians)
12. b2s- Same
13. LW- Many are surprisingly creative and artistic.
14. R- Least, but we can have our moments.
15. M- I have always been interested in art.
16. ISC- all signs can be artistic...I have some artistic skills.

Comment: Nice to see how many of us are artistic and know other artistic Caps. I personally think it arises from our sometimes non-obvious emotionality...it is a venue for expressing those deeper sentiments.

10. On a scale of 1 to 10, with 10 being the most sentimental, how sentimental are you?

1. SM- 5
2. Luminosity- I am secretly very sentimental
3. moonlightx- 7
4. 12muddy- 8
5. cappy1277- 10
6. Faith- 8 or 9
7. andstuff- 10
8. YTA- 8 (only in love relationships)
9. PC- In love, sentimental; in general, not much
10. AG- Can be really sentimental; can also shut it off
11. LD- 9
12. b2s- 8
13. LW- 5
14. R- To the world- 0. To those we trust- 10.
15. M- 4
16. ISC- It can be 1 and 10.

Comment: Clearly we tend towards the sentimental, averaging about an 8 on this scale, from numbers given.

11. What is the one thing about Capricorns that you wish other people would realize?

1. SM- Not all materialistic, rigid, high brow, elitists
2. Luminosity- how sensitive we are!
3. moonlightx- Not boring sticks in the mud. silly
4. 12muddy-We are not uncaring, cold
5. cappy1277-not really as mean as I look lol
6. Faith- diamond in the rough =)
7. andstuff- Caps exist to stay away from
8. YTA- Not boring/stoic: funny, humble, witty, innovative, etc.
9. PC- Many of us cannot be calculated for we are Resolute
10. AG- People are complicated generally... That's everyone.
11. LD- seem cold but still need love and closeness
12. b2s- not all serious; fun, dynamic, silly
13. LW- Caps can be reserved but usually nice, friendly, etc.
14. R- That we are superior to you other 11 in every way!
15. M- Emotional, loving, generous, good humored
16. ISC- We can feel...just don't necessarily wanna show it.

I will be editing in future completed surveys, if they come (crossing my fingers!)

Thanks again for your answers. <3

With regard to being there for loved ones, I live far away from my immediate family. As I am the single feminine sun in my family, I sought the distance initially, and now that I don't need it, I'm still fine with it. My family is also large. I have three sisters and one brother, and most of them are religious to some degree, so I don't worry that they're uncared for or that no one is there for them. If they were all alone, I think that would have changed my course significantly, and I would have tried harder to be there for them. It just wasn't necessary, so I haven't worried about it.

@ Faith

Color Horoscope says my Mercury is most dominant and my Sun most weak. But my mercury is in Capricorn so at the end of the day Im very much a Capricorn.

Which placements of mine are you referring to in what you find interesting ?
Im very combative and competitive too but I dont always show it, if I dont see the use or benefit of it, especially on a forum.

Im relatively new to astrology, its like a year since ive been studying aspects and placements etc. But soon Im going to wrap it up, cause I have no time nor the mood to dwell on astrological aspects all the time which makes me behave like this or like that.

To me, a year is enough to gain sufficient insight and knowledge and move on.
Its all about action anyway, that is to say; in life we gotta act. So, I like to just do it.

What aspects do you have that makes you feel interested in metaphysica ? Perhaps you could pull up your chart.

I like Capricorn women cause some of them are no nonsense type, kinda like me. lol

Hmm! What if I offered to pay you for answering, would you still be boring then?

Or what if I offered you a photo op with some famous people I know...surely that would make it worth your while?

Nope (unless you know Jensen Ackles )

@AG: You make a good point. I'm not "there" for all of my loved ones either, not on a regular basis, and sometimes, not even in emergencies. My capacity to love people exceeds my capacity-- and sometimes my willingness-- to help.

For example, my sister consistently makes bad choices, and I stopped subsidizing these choices a long time ago.

Also, I sacrifice in ways beyond just giving my time and money. I will defend people and take the backlash for it, no problem. I will listen to them more than I expect them to listen to me. Things like that.

More to say later.

I agree.

I was surprised by Mars and Pluto being so strong in your chart, since your writing indicates, for me, a patient, balanced, and measured way of thinking. I suppose it's your strong Mercury I'm catching, more than anything.

Makes sense.

It can get very tedious and time-wasting. I've just been gradually figuring out my preferences for conversation and have become more selective about what threads and avenues of investigation I will pursue here.

I thought it was just my Capricorn sun!

But it could also be my highly-aspected Aquarius Mercury, coupled with the fact that Neptune aspects most of my chart (and is sextile Mercury.)

Aaaaaaalright! After a moment of reflection I decided to sacrifice myself for the good of science But this is gonna be brief.

1. To some extent - yes.
2. Depends on what you wanna learn. I admire self-taught experts and would love to be one but I'd rather be operated by a doctor who studied in a medical school...
3. Yes, but those things were a small minority.
4. I don't know personally any other Capricorn interested in metaphysical studies. When it comes to me, I've always been into this kind of stuff and it's getting stronger and stronger.
5. I haven't read most of the astrology books (not even one lol) but as far as I remember, descriptions available on the net rarely mention the spiritual (don't mistake with religious) side of Capricorns. Would be nice if it changed. Anyway, I know who I am and that's enough
6. If I enjoy it and/or believe it's worthwhile, then yes.
7. I don't think so. I don't like using people.
8. There's no one I can call my loved one but if such a person appeared in my life, I know I'd be willing to make great sacrifices to help.
9. I suppose people of all signs can be artistic, including Capricorn. I have some artistic skills.
10. It can be 1 and 10.
11. We can feel and even be very soft. Can you imagine it? We just don't necessarily wanna show it.

Aha, it's for free

Thanks again everyone, for helping me understand Capricorn better, and compiling a testament to how we see ourselves.

Bulk reply:

1. What is your opinion of typical descriptions of the Capricorn personality? Does it describe you well?

quote:

<3 I think Caps usually appreciate quality materials just for their own sake, and occasionally when we share our enthusiasm for the greatness of these things, it can come across as flaunting or bragging. "Look at this sapphire ring, the color is just gorgeous!" may be interpreted as, "I have money, money, money!" even if...honestly...it was more about the sapphire.

I think we have a largely social function and feel the need to be of use to whatever groups we interact with. If we are pushing to get ahead, usually it's because we see a need for our skills and can't tolerate everyone lagging behind just because of the leader's incompetence or shortcomings.

Of course some of us may be shallow and only interested in titles and prestige...but I honestly never met a Cap like that.

Good observation.

2. On a scale of 1 to 10, with 10 being "extremely important," how important do you think regular schooling is?

I admire how far you've come, after your difficult teenage years! And fully agree with what you wrote.

"Regular" versus what? Why is there a scale?

By "regular," I meant the standard curriculum and school experience in public schools and private schools that conform mostly to the public school model. In America, that means you ascend through the grades, getting letter grades (usually) and learning about subjects determined to a large extent by state mandates. These schools sometimes differ drastically from "alternative" schooling, which in America encompasses Waldorf schools, vocational high schools, performing arts high schools, charter schools, cyber schools, correspondence schools and home schools.

There's a scale because I didn't think the question through long enough to realize it was not the wisest decision to include it. *wink* But if everyone but me had given school a 10, I would think that we trend more towards the conventional, and if eveyone gave it a low score, I would think that we generally prefer other modes of learning, such as apprenticeship, self-teaching, and so on. I didn't anticipate the lengthy, revealing answers that many gave, which are much better than anything the scale could have suggested.

Exquisite answers here. I'm copying them into my little notebook of favorite quotes.

What a coincidence, I am the same exact way! =D

3. Did you learn about what you were really interested in, in school?

Once we have come to know and understand things of this nature, we would then become a ''Master in Spiritual Chemistry'' knowing something of the life forces which motivate our thought. We would know about the life forces which fill our feelings, and the life forces which arouse our sexual desires. We would come to a state of self realization which is, in fact, being able to be aware of our own inner self. And this is very important because only then would we be able to live a life of our own.

Again, this is just brilliant. Before I forget, will you tell me what country you're from?

This is a good point and I admit that for the most part, it seems that my tendency to research things in depth, ruminate over the significance, and draw studied conclusions exceeds that of my fiends who did not attend college. However, some friends who taught themselves seem to have a greater mental flexibility, compared to the rigidity I developed through years of being forced to think in an academically-suitable way.

4. In your opinion, do Capricorns tend to be very interested in metaphysical studies?

quote:
Originally posted by I'm so cappy:

Ditto. Always have been interested...always will be interested.

5. If you answered "yes" above, do you think our interest in metaphysics is downplayed or ignored in most astrology books?

I think you hit the nail on the head! Our style usually doesn't scream hippie or weirdo; we get stereotyped according to our dress! And, speaking for myself, I don't speak about these topics too readily, as I risk losing credibility with people very fast. I'm aware of the volatility of these topics and the potential to alienate people by....well, seeming like an alien. =) And Cap emotionality and loyalty are evident here, as I usually won't "rock the boat" and upset a more conservative friend by imposing my radical beliefs on them and expecting them to cope. Their friendship is more important to me than my theoretical framework.

6. Are you a hard worker?

Very similar. It's hard for me to do anything by halves. My optimal working style is "compulsive." If I can't do something compulsively, with all my focus, it can be drudgery.

7. Be honest...do you use people to get ahead in life? If so, how? If not, does it annoy you to be accused of using people?

Also, it may be important to note that sometimes we Capricorns enjoy doing things the hard way.

Good observation. Yes, that seems to be true. Speaking for myself, if I don't have enough of a challenge with what's before me, I may complicate things in an effort to save myself from boredom.

8. Are you consistently there for your loved ones, even when you have to make great sacrifices to do so?

Always. Loved ones before self. Loved ones before anything and everything. Give my life for the sake of my loved ones.

<3 And you make that clear throughout this forum...it's very endearing.

9. In your opinion, is Capricorn more or less artistic than other signs?

Look at that, I quoted myself! Well, I think it's worth repeating...

10. On a scale of 1 to 10, with 10 being the most sentimental, how sentimental are you?

Oh, good answer! The song lyric that comes to mind for me, when I consider my sentimentality, is Reo Speedwagon's Keep On Loving You: "When I said that I love you I meant that I love you forever." I don't let go of anyone easily.

11. What is the one thing about Capricorns that you wish other people would realize?

Personally, I think other Caps are fascinating. Some people’s lives are like sitcoms (With lots of crazy random happenings, but not much substance or real direction to the plot), whilst other people’s lives are movies or a mini-series (There are some significant highs and lows throughout the narrative, but overall the plot follows a certain direction, and gradually that direction is reached). Caps often fall into the later category. Day by day their lives are not usually that tumultuous, and ultimately they get where they are going.

This makes me feel better about myself and the cumulative effect of my small achievements, which I have been prone to dismissing as insignificant, because of their smallness.

And your comment reminds me of this Thoreau quote that I love:

If one advances confidently in the direction of his dreams and endeavors to live the life he has imagined, he will meet with success unimagined in common hours.

@PC~ Yes, I like knowing where people are from. My dominant Aries Jupiter is in the 9H; I love travel and meeting people from around the globe.

And I love Amsterdam! I visited way back in 1997, but it seems like yesterday. Do you like it there? Meisseri from this forum (I forget how to spell her name) is also there.

I'm a white American, yes. My father and all his ancestors were Irish, my mother and all her ancestors were Italian. I was raised Catholic, switched to Protestant, then switched to Reasonable.

Your father sounds smart...what's your religious or philosophical heritage? (If you don't mind all the questions!)
