Lately, I've been doing a research about the IC and I feel that it's not given as much importance as it should have.
There isn't enough infos/studies regarding it and I personally think that the IC/4th house is the most mysterious/vague area of astrological birth charts. It should be studied throughly and with more depth.

IC or known as the Nadir is the darkest/lowest point in a birth. It signifies the end of the day, where the native finds himself after everything is said and done, when he/she are all old and gray.It embodies the darkest depth of our psyche including our fears, hopes and even hidden pain/traumas.

Now many astrology cookbooks are just satisfied with the old broken song that the 4th house symbolizes home and domestic life and that if you have the sun there then you are very family-oriented and that you are a homebody.
Well I'm happy to break it in to all of you : THAT'S NOT THE CASE AT ALL !!

In the contrary, I noticed that for those who have the Sun in the 4th house or in conjunction with the IC ( like in my case) are actually lone wolves and they all share this sense of " not belonging/ not fitting in" with rest of society ( Opposition Mid-heaven).
The repeated pattern with this placement in that natives are always on the hunt for the ideal home, for security, for unconditional acceptance but never actually find it. They share this sense of not being born at the right place or at the right time, of being side-walkers.

The fourth House is a Karmic house and it's directly linked to past lives, even more than the 8th House ( Surprised ? Don't be It's true ).
I've studies five charts of people who have Sun conjunct IC, including my own.
I've found out that none of them are as close as they "supposed" to be with their families.
The five of them have conflicted/unpleasant relationships with their fathers sometimes to the extent of cutting off all contacts with them.
I personally have Sun and Mars on my IC and My relationship with my Dad has always been storming and nerve-wracking.

I have IC in Sagittarius and since I was a little kid, I've always yearned to be somewhere else, far away from all I know. I never fit into my family's beliefs/traditions/views neither those of my culture and society. I always had this urge to break free from it all.
My definition/vision of home is not the same as that of my parents. Freedom is happiness to me.
I've never felt like I could me within the confines of this sickening society surrounding me.
My parents are religious and traditional in everything they do which I find irritating and suffocating.
It kills off the development of individuality which I believe is the most important thing.

So, the IC/4th house symbolizes what you lacked in your childhood home, what should have been there but never was.
It's what you consider the IDEAL house, the home you'll seek in your journey during this lifetime, the home you will found your own marriage/partnership upon.
If the 4th house is empty then there wasn't much of an issue regarding home and security but if it's occupied then the planets color the issues with their personal energies, whether negative or positive.

For example someone with Aquarius on cusp of 4th house will seek to build a home where individuality is encouraged and freedom is provided and granted whole-heartedly.

Pisces IC embodies someone who will found his home upon the need for a peaceful/quiet environment free of conflict and anger, a domestic environment which encourages creativity/spirituality.

Aries IC wishes to build a warm fun-loving home where their children feel loved/accepted and motivated to follow whatever dreams they have.
With my Sagittarius IC, I wish to found a house which is open and large with a wide garden. A house where my future children will play and roam free. I will grant them love and freedom to be who they want to be, I will teach them the value of independence and individuality. I will offer them my wisdom and knowledge. I will teach them to respect differences of race, culture, religions and above all I want them to love life and live it to the fullest.

I know many of you will disagree with my theory but that's what I came to conclude regarding the IC. It's through my own personal experience and the repeated study of others charts.
I'd love to hear your opinions.

You have a very interesting view on the IC. Your post is certainly informative

I have a Virgo IC, but its ruler is in 6h Sagittarius, Libra venus in the 4th. There aren't a lot of issues in my home life except for fluctuating financial matters. Like you, my family is also very conservative and religious (I have relatives who are nuns and priests) and my rebelliousness was often a source of conflict back then. I had very different views and opinions but as time passed, we sort of learned to compromise for our differences.

My ideal home is true to my Virgo IC-- it would be somewhere not too fancy, somewhere that's comfortable for me and my future family (if ever I do have one).

I wish I could disagree. I have Sagittarius IC with Mercury, Uranus, Lilith and Juno. I don't have a good relationship with my family (they're religious too, ugh) and I don't feel like home at "my home". I'm going to leave far away and look for my place on Earth. I don't belong here.

I can definitely relate to you. I've always felt the same way.

Btw, my perfect home is abroad. It's in a big city and has (almost) everything I need so that I don't have to go out if I don't feel like it

I have pluto conjunct my IC. My ideal home would be a place where I can go to be alone to regenerate from the day. My childhood home was full of conflict over religion. Luckily I always had a place I could go in my home to be alone.

I think your question is wrong in that each angle is equally as important just different.

It's pretty common for Sagittarius IC people to settle down abroad later in life ( mainly after the 30/40's).
I have Uranus in 4th house along with Mars, It reinforce this idea.
It's also noted that those who have Uranus near IC could end up in exile for their unconventional political/religious views!!

Lovely.... though quite predictable.
Me Versus authority = the story of my life !!

You misunderstood my question.
What I'm asking is not whether the IC is important or not. I personally know that's very important.
What I'm wondering about is why there are tons of studies/articles about Ascendants and Midheavens and only few about ICs ?
It seems to me that the IC does not hold as much interest to astrologers as the MC/ASC/DESC.

Oh, I see!
Well, we leave behind the IC, so I guess there is more interest in what lies ahead. However, if you feel called to study the IC, do that. Make that your special field.

I have done that with certain subjects that interest me, on which there is little material. For me, I have many such subjects such as Unaspected planets, the Vertex, obscure asteroids and 12th house planets, although there is a lot of info on them.

Uranus still affects your 4th house even if it's at the end.
You're not so quite safe, my friend *evil laugh*
lol ! just kidding
Having Uranus there means you value freedom in your home, you'd like to do whatever you want, go out whenever you want and just be yourself, no limitations, no questioning from anybody.

I think maybe this disinterest in the IC is due to the fact that most people find it difficult to grasp by the mind or analyse the nature of the IC.
What motivated me to study it is that like many of us, I've used to have this vague and blurry image concerning the IC. So I decided to do a research about it in hope of further understanding it.
I think it's through this curious process that Astrology advances. If we all kept going on about the same thing, repeating the same info, how could we offer astrology the expansion it needs to keep developing ?

Your description definitely matches up with your Virgo IC but the influence of Pluto colors your 4th house in its own way as well thus the occasional need for solitude and the longing for inner peace.

Thanks SilverFeather!! I feel like I haven't even begun to explore my fourth house. My "home" is so vast and cavernous and empty. I'm still sitting on the doorstep.

One thing I'm entering into is my new fellow has his moon conjunct my IC and Pluto. I feel quit excited to continue my fourth house journey with this man.

For believers in past lives, the past in general and the soul, IC is very important. It's like a blueprint to the past. I have Capricorn there with easy aspects to the sun and Saturn. A definite pattern emerges. It is quite noticeable the way this Capricorn cusp works with sun and Saturn as well as the Cancer MC (which receives easy aspects from sun and Saturn.) Somehow my past lives were Capricornian. Maybe they were just very tough, challenging lives? My soul is very hardy, looks like, and there's coldness because Saturn squares Venus. Very austere past lives with little love and comfort is how I see it.

Having your partner's Moon conjunct your IC is a good thing. It means that you will always feel comfortable/at home/ at ease when you're with him.

Did you perhaps feel like you knew him or that he seems familiar even when you met him for the first time ?

I agree. I think the 4th house is definitely the door to one's past lives.
I have Sagittarius on the cusp.
The house is occupied by Mars,Neptune and Uranus.
There seem to be a lot of karma going on in there.
