This thread is pretty funny, lol.

Polo although its drifted off course from this I would have to say your reply of "to learn" coming before "to love" would be equivalent to something Osiris would say to Isis, not realizing that it was she that came first.

"But it's B.S. Pire! To BE... You can sit in a rocking chair for 80 years and just be, but you "Would Be" no different than a rock, which does not have consciousness. So F--k that S--t you're talking!!!"

you do realize that that is exactly what buddha did? was he no different than a rock?

the purpose of life IS.

Buddha's body remained stationary, yes, but his consciousness did not. He "Learned" and from him others "Learned." Through contemplation he discovered a way to end suffering. This is not just "Being." We are all already "Being" human by simply existing as "Human Beings". To be is to EXIST! Human is the state of our existence.

My question is "Why do we Exist?" What is the purpose of our existence? The answer cannot be "To Be". By this you are saying that we exist to exist. That may sound philosophical and deep, but it's actually foolishness and doublespeak. The purpose of our existence is to "Expand Consciousness" and we do this through "Learning." CHRIST consciousness is the WAY to higher TRUTH and a loving LIFE. This is what the Buddha discovered as he sat under the tree. He thought, he pondered and he wondered with an active mind. To simply "Just Be" one does not add to or enhance their own existence in any way. To simply "Just Be" they DO nothing! Purpose is in the Doing, not the Being. My question is about the doing.

i know it may seem simplistic to you but i DO think the purpose of life is...to LIVE. to BE. and however you do that you WILL learn. even YOU, Polo!!

you will experience, you will learn, you will feel...and as for any other purpose, well sweetie that is up to you!!

and that is largely WHAT buddha learned from contemplation. torturous philosophical meanderings about what my purpose is, whether i am living it, what the man next door is doing arse-backwards, all of that is creating suffering...sitting in a rocking chair on the other hand is not. unless it is!

Everything is learned in SILENCE. It is the only way to learn.
This is what Buddha teaches ~

We are not in disagreement. The Purpose of life is to learn and we learn from the various experiences that we have as we live as long as we are conscious.

Not exactly everything is learned in silence, but indeed, learning is the purpose of our existence. It is the reason we are alive. We Live to Learn. It is the reason that we reproduce; so that learning can continue beyond each individual life an evolve the collective consciousness as a whole.

Ignoring the "begging the question" parts, I think part of what's tripping people up is that some people consider "to be" to mean only the physical while others include the spiritual & mental aspects as well.

Personally, I do not consider the mental/spiritual and physical/mundane to be a dichotomy. Others do, so YMMV on certain terms as "to be."

Because we learn from "Experience" and not all experienced events happen in silence. I would say that we can deepen our understanding of what we learn in silence as we contemplate on our experiences.

Excellent point! It does seem that way. I prefer to be as specific as possible. In my opinion, the more vague, the more room there is for misinterpretation.

I like the idea of learning in silence - that way, I can hear the Universe speaking.

We only learn in silence though ~ it is our mind that tricks us into thinking otherwise because when thinking one is not learning, surely?

Hmmm.. Let's try not to swear all, shall we? And no "I'll stop when they stop..." we're not in grade school.

Please be respectful of each other as I know we are all capable.

Thanks, guys!

Some interesting ideas as always, hope they don't get lost in arguments.

to all
