I joined this on FB, but there is no reason we can't do it here as well, for those who don't use social sites.

What is it?

40 Days of Thankfulness

Why?
"In an INSTANT your life could change.
In an INSTANT you could start being THANKFUL for what you have today!"
#40daysthankfulness (if you use twitter, use this hashtag)

What do I do?
Post or write 1 thing you are thankful for per day. You can add bonus thankful entries if you'd like - the more you jot down, the more you'll see your life and attitude change no matter what is going on around you. Encourage others to join us & SHARE this event!

The official start date is October 10th, but, I figured since we are a message board website, we could start earlier.
If you can't post every day because you don't visit LL every day, that's okay too!
Maybe you can post multiple thankfullnesses (ooh, spellcheck did not like that word!) to make up for the days you miss.
The idea is when you are concentrating on what you have to be thankful for,
you tend to focus less on what you DON'T have to be thankful for.
(Which is nothing, really, but that's another story!!)

Anyway... give it a try, I promise you, it has worked wonders for me!
I made a commitment to myself to try and see the positive in every situation, and it's helped me SOOOO much!

Please try along with me!
I bet on some days you will find things to be thankful for that you never thought you'd find appreciation in, and of course,
WE SHALL INSPIRE ONE ANOTHER!!!

YAY!

OKAY, day one for Moi.

Today I am thankful for a bit of Indian Summer on the day of my Uncle's viewing.
He changed his mind at the last minute and took away his suit, and had himself laid out in a football jersey, jeans, the rattiest house slippers you'd ever seen, and a straw hat!!
He lived a long an happy life married to one woman, who he'd been missing since she passed some years ago.
He was a retired firefighter, who had many awards and accolades.

I think it's fine to celebrate a passing when the person was so loved and loved so...
So, today I am thankful for knowing such an awesome man.

I am thankful to the planet for growing my food and giving me a home.

I am thankful for being able to play my music to keep my sanity.

I am thankful for the love I have given and the love I am yet to have.

I am thankful for sounding like a mad hippy ...

Cool

I'm thankful for music. It's soothing, entertaining, and something you can dance to! It's the reason I would rather go blind than deaf.

Day #1 for me:

I'm thankful for all the manifestations of LOVE in my life! It keeps me going strong in the midst of chaos and confusion.

Bonus: I'm also grateful for this board; very many lovely souls in here!

PS: I used to keep a gratitude journal so your idea hit the right spot for me. Thanks so much for starting this!

This reminds me of what I tried (and kept failing) this Spring: Make Miracles in Forty Days. You're supposed to list things that you aren't grateful for (excluding certain things, like the death of a loved one), in an effort to be happier in the moment, and deal with what life throws at you.

I am thankful each morning to see the rising sun and hear the bird song, to smell the crisp fall air, the soft touch of the four leggeds excited, shaggy bods as I~m stumbling around awaiting the first taste of coffee.

May I always count my blessings my five senses function and never take them for granted.

I'd only read the first post when I responded. I'll be back later.

Day 3 for me!

I am thankful for finding this book, 'East of Eden' by John Steinbeck.

I knew I had it somewhere, and I found it and now I can't put it down.
Isn't it wonderful how some people can be so talented that their words and phrases never grow stale and continue to amaze and delight readers for years and years?!

Day #2 for me.

I'm grateful for having found the link to my father once again. No matter what happens, I will never forget these days. I had missed you, Dad!

An extra gratitude hug for the person who started this fantastic thread.

I am thankful to know that there is another Steinbeck reader out there .

His books are timeless and one feels like they are living in the book.

I actually made a list the other day, in a notebook, but was too tired to post it. I got engrossed in a book instead.

Tonight:

* Grateful for the way Emily usually falls asleep with her back legs and feet resting somewhere on me. Sometimes I end up with a paw resting on my chin or cheek, but for the most part it's an arm or leg.

* Friday night pizza with my Dad.

* Colostrum. I taking it again, mixed in a little ice cream, in an effort to sort out my stomach problems.

* My family.

* Pretty afternoons out on the deck in the back garden.

* Packages in the mail.

* My aunt, and certain other members of my extended family/family friends.

* The crickets and frogs are still out there, chirping away.

* Clean clothes and bedclothes.

* Chai tea.

* My replacement Halloween Tarot.

* Hot baths.

* Mouthwash.

I missed yesterday.
So, day 4 & 5, I am glad for doctors.
Sometimes they make me mad, b/c they rush through things and seem emotionally detached,
but today (yesterday) I realized how selflessly
they give.
They don't have much of a life, I mean
if they are devoted to their practice.
And it must be hard to look at person
and not have answers, but still have
to treat them any way, and work through
it.

So, I'm thankful for Doctors, and I am thankful for dryer sheets.

I've been using two on my sheets and quilts and when I went to bed they smelled like
Heaven.

ETA:
Juni June Bug, I have finished East of Eden.
Do you have any suggestions of what Steinbeck to read next??? I would appreciate your recommendation!
