If you arent addicted now, don't start. I only wish I didnt smoke. Don't be stupid and start.

Think yourself lucky for not being a smoker. I don't know why anyone would want to start. If you can occasionally, or socially, smoke, good for you. To the rest, don't waste your health or money. What are you thinking!??!!

chew some gum or something.

smokers arent sexy.

I had a person here tell me once that he thought chicks who smoked where "hot". I think the "addict" aspect turned him on or something. I was actually turned off (and surprised) that he thought my smoking habit was "hot" LOL

Someone who cares about you, would not want you to smoke.

There's nothing "hot" about smoking cigarettes.

You're right, T.
The chewing gums don't work for me. Will tough it out!

And, yeah, there isn't anything sexy about smoking. Lol, jeez.

LOL thank god i got through to someone!

Yeah, charm, the chewing gum is terrible. I tried patches too....well, maybe didnt give them a good enough shot. I still have some in a cupboard. Will try again in the next few months. I believe people who say the only way to go is 'cold turkey'. Sooo hard though.

Wish I was one of those people who could smoke occassionally and not feel the need to otherwise.

Never shoulda started!! arghh!

The only problem is curbing the mood swings. Oh, and the gum tastes terrible! Yuck.

And what's so sexy about stinky hair and astray breath? Sorry, can't believe that some think that. Lol!

Smoking is something of a fetish among a number of men. This sums it up:
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/37200602/ns/health-sexual_health/t/secre t-occasional-sexy-smoking-dont-inhale/

quote:
In my old high school, if you wanted some idea of who the wicked girls were, you’d find out which ones snuck cigarettes in the bathrooms. These weren’t the goody-two-shoes, obey the rules, no-making-out-on-the-first-date girls, no sireee! I remember — well, never mind what I remember.

The point is that smoking and naughtiness have been linked since at least 1917 when silent film star Theda “The Vamp” Bara, billed as the wickedest woman in the world, lounged on a settee wearing a transparent gown and languidly raising a cigarette to her lips. This was five years before a woman in New York City was arrested for smoking in public. It was 11 years before Edward Bernays pulled off the most successful public relations stunt in history on behalf of the American Tobacco Company by arranging for women to stroll down Manhattan’s Fifth Avenue in the 1929 Easter Parade while smoking. The resulting rotogravure pictures in newspapers sent cigarette sales soaring.

Now, of course, we know that smoking kills people. But the smoking backlash can have the perverse effect of making it seem even more decadent, sort of like eating a bacon-stuffed meatloaf wrapped in bacon. Mmmm. So we get thousands of smoking fetish photos on Flickr, smoking fetish videos on You Tube, and, of course, smoking porn sites galore

quote:
Albright’s own analysis of smoking videos featuring young women or girls suggests that smoking signals “sexual precocity.” In other words, it’s kinda slutty, which some people apparently find sexy (see “Pretty Wild,” cast of). This might be especially true for you since you don’t seem to have a fetish, just a desire for a little variation.

In East Texas I knew a guy who'd do anything for a girl who dipped (of which he only knew 2, one of which he got started in it) as he thought it was utterly sexy to see them spit. Don't know why.

There's also a "420 Girls" site showing scantily clad girls toking.

I have yet to meet any women who think smoking, toking, or chewing is sexy (though I'm sure they exist, but probably in very small numbers). Of course if she has a habit then she might very well be comforted to know she doesn't have to be defensive of it if her guy has the same habit, but that's not the same thing.

I never smoked to look cool. Well maybe when i first started with my girlfriends in the woods in 8th grade, but almost everyone in my high school smoked, so it wasnt anything out of the norm or made one stand out or look cooler than anyone else. Almost everyone was smoking back then (before smokes were like $7 a pack)

So i can safely say I did it because I was an idiot and my friends did, and were too. It was the norm. It wasnt like we were being rebels by doing so. My class was, at the time the worst, most hardcore partiers ever in my high school's history. We got our high school got banned from ever renting rooms at the beach after prom night, after our class went there and rented out all the rooms on the strip and partied way too hard and caused a lot of ruckus. We had the highest dropout rate in the history of the school too. (no, not proud).

Cigs were for babies where I come from. Many people I knew got hooked on hard drugs right before high school. I know a lot of people that died from overdoses. Thankfully, I never got too deep into any of the hard drugs. Or even soft drugs. I never liked pot.

Anyway....don't start smoking kids.

This is totally off-topic. I was just wondering what happened to Betty Boop (Lauren). I haven't seen her around.

And hi. I don't smoke, but my mother does, and I've wished at times that she would stop.

I vaguely recall she said she was taking a break (and IIRC it was over a debate in Sweet Peas). But LL is loading very slowly right now and the Search function claims to be disabled so I wasn't able to find the thread that I think exists. IIRC, she said she was coming back.

But I'm really bad with names so I could be confusing her with someone else.

Hmm...maybe we should have a goodbye/sabbatical forum...it would be easy to find their threads that way. And random bumps of the threads would be funny.

Pixie Jane, a Good-bye/Sabbatical Forum is a good idea

Too many time throughout the years i have watched people say good-bye and have their threads quickly closed because certain higher-ups said their 'good-bye thread' was just posted to cause drama. I have more faith in people than that. All that happened was they were shut-up (closed thread), so the forum could still keep that facade that it was too cool for anyone to actually want to leave it. Their Good-Bye thread was swiftly swept under the rug so on one could reply and well wish or send some love or say good-bye back. And I think it was meant as a subtle warning to other members who might want to leave -- to not bother starting a thread saying good-bye. To just "go"...silently and not make the forum look bad. ...or worse than it already does...

People who have gone by, who no longer post and who never wanted to create drama about it, are suddenly gagged, thread closed and other threads bumped up to bury the. It's quite a shame., I actually think 99% of these people truly, simply wanted to say 'good-bye'. and not cause any drama.

But there has been this attitude here, for a long time, that if you DARE want to leave LindaLand, then you are some sort of traitor and you are given a Closed/LOCKED thread and an attitude of "Don't let the door hit your @ss on the way out".. & "We don't want to hear from you". Like 'How dare you leave this place.' Anyone who'd payed attention for the past couple of years, knows what I mean.

Maybe all the person wanted to do was say good-bye to a few people they cared about and let it be known they'd be gone and send some love to people they connected with. But it seems to be taken as a serious insult, to certain people here. And they would rather a member that has contributed greatly to the site for a number of years, be forotten about than it put in the spotlight that they actually have made the choice to leave.

Suddenly, all the contributions from that member, that made the site what is is today, don't matter and instead they are quickly quieted down and kicked out the back door.

I think i learned ..... maybe around 2005 not to start good-bye threads....because then certain people will try to call you a drama queen, when that wasnt the case at all.

It's easier to just slip away.....whether you post occasionally or slip away for good. Don't say good-bye to people whatever you do. Otherwise you will be labeled a drama starter.

I'm thinking of NativelyJoan right now. I never got to reply to her good-bye thread. She had a loving, peaceful farewell and it was locked right away. It makes me sad for so SO many reasons.

I think it's a shame that she was shut up like that, so quickly, so harshly. When she was one of the brightest members we have ever had here. & she shared so much. It's truly a loss to have a member like her leave. Yet she was so quickly shut up.....when she had so much to share and was definately one of the most intelligent members to hit the boards in many years.

It's a shame that such "spiritual" people could do that do another. To such a bright light.

I hope you find better more respectful outlets for your brilliance, Joan.
