Hey guys,

I think you misunderstood. I quit ages ago but started getting bad cravings for it lately. Didn't cave yet.

Yep, I've heard some of those prescription drugs cause nausea, dizziness etc. Cold turkey to me is the best.

Thank you, T!! I can't say if I hadn't been preggo if I would have been able to stick to it, I did enjoy my cigarettes from what I remember. They make me ill now though. And I am VERY thankful for that.

I know you will get there when you are ready. It's really like giving up a personality trait when you've smoked for so long. I was a 12 year smoker. It aint easy, but when you're ready, you CAN do it!

Hi all!! I smoked in my late teens untill I was 26 then I just decided to quite. I didn't have any problems with quitting. No side effects. No nothing. That lasted for 14 years. Three years ago I started having cravings. I dealt with them. Then the cravings kept intensifing untill I could no longer stand it. So I have been smoking the last 2 and half years. It bites. Cigs are so darn expensive and I feel like crap. At this point I can't seem to quite. I just wish I could wake up one morning and not want to smoke like I did the first time around. So Charmaine ( i think i spelled your name right) fight the urge with all you've got. DON'T give in to it because you will be better off. I know you know this but I just wanted to send you this energy anyway.

ghani, yeah, you really have to be ready and prepare your mind to become a non-smoker (morning coffee w/o ciggs??? ackk!!!). Especially after it's become so ingrained into your life. I've thought i was there so many times before, but ended up caving back in. I think i'm getting closer lately...again. lol

Thanks for the encouragment!

Of course I knew people were right when they told me to quit and only had my best interest at heart, but he has to be ready to deal with it, he has to come to that place inside where he really is ready to take the plunge and assume all cravings afterwards. Pressure doesn't help.

I personally always loved to smoke, I wanted to start smoking since I was little. Both parents have been smokers, Mom quit. Maybe it was because I saw them rarely when I was little, but I used to love the minor details about them, especially their smells, and I remember I used to think cig smoke smelled so wonderful (I'm like eww now but heh... kid). I started at 16 and this is the 3rd time I've quit. It wasn't peer pressure for me, but I guess I wanted to fit in and be seen as cooler. I was an overweight nerd but starting 15-16 became quite popular and yes, a part of that was because of smoking (also lost a great deal of weight and was quite a stunner back then). Yeah, I do think it looks cool and pretty bad-a$$ but I do realize it is because of mass-media manipulation. It is sometimes hard to not reach out for my cigs when I'm stuck in traffic or studying for some exam or have a really really bad argument with my annoying boss who has no leadership qualities and wants me to read his mind, do his work and make him look good at the end of it. My boss is my biggest temptation for starting smoking again arghhhhhhh!!!

Main reasons I quit:
-smell - yuck! taurus Venus not likey
-health - about time I treat my body with the due respect...
-respect from my patients - I can't really ask them to quit to save their leg when they see me in my cig break now can I??
-bottom line, it is addiction no matter how you put it. I refrained from buying food to buy cigs. It reminded me of drug addiction and it wasn't too far off, actually. I hate when I don't have absolute, total control over my own mind and things like this taking over me, it irks me to no end to be a slave to something like this and heh, that's what I was. 60 cigs per day in the last period.
-last but not least, it gives me such confidence and sense of inner pride that I managed to overcome this and it's this thought that keeps me from smoking again, I would hate to lose this.

Thank you for sharing this, Hera. I am going to show it to my boyfriend. Congrats on your continued success .

Firstly, welcome to Lindaland.

Fourteen years is a long time to quite. Don't worry, relapsing doesn't mean failure. These things happen and when you are ready, you can try again.

Thus far, I'm still going strong. You guys gave me some food for thought. Thank you!

You're welcome, Charm. And don't let Randall make you feel more guilty than you probably already are! People fall off the wagon many many times before they finally give it up. This thread is good as it offers you a sort of a support group which is key in beating this type of thing.

And you have my FULL support ok?

AND Randall's too, RIGHT RANDALL???

True, the intention of this thread was for us to share our experiences and support one another.

We are human after all and allowed to our moments of weakness. We just have to dust ourselves off and try again. Drowning in guilt won't help. Will start off fresh and put that behind me.

So, thank you, very much.

PS. I always have Randall's support The best part? No guilt trip, no lecture.

I always say "bad" to her. She knew I meant no negativity.

We all fall in life. Success in life is just about getting up one time more than the number of times we fall down.

Excellent! Hey Charmaine, guess what?? This is the first time you and I have actually spoken directly (except for your previous thank you), and I've picked up on your "spiritual energy"! (My term - I usually think of people in terms of high or low spiritual energy ... of course with the various degrees in between ... instead of good or bad).

Anyway, your spiritual energy level is high imo - you come across as gentle, kind, and fair. But you also worry - about doing the right thing, I feel. This has nothing to do with smoking and is also high energy actually ... just needs to be channeled so the intention can bring you greater peace.

So for example, Randall is also high energy imo (I've known that from pretty soon after I joined), and he also worries - but inside I feel he's more calm than you. Dunno how to explain it. It could be 'cause he's able to handle the worry part and take it more in stride.

But gosh, you're really soft. Not weak ... just soft (you wouldn't be high energy if you were weak).

So ... let's see ... from where I'm standing (sitting actually atm), I think you have what it takes to beat this smoking thingy. But for you, I think the change (shift in thinking) is gonna have to come from inside. I know some people are able to use their will and go cold turkey. With you, even if you do go cold turkey, the urges will need to be fought not so much by will but more by a shift in thinking of how you view yourself since you tend to internalize a lot of that part of your emotional nature.

Ya ... I think that's it. Hope I made sense. Sometimes I can't find the right words to articulate everything I pick up from people. But the long and short of it is that you have it in you to beat the habit. And when you do, you will notice that you've also changed at the level of your spirit. This does not necessarily happen with every one who kicks the habit.

It's a real pleasure to meet you Charmaine!

This is vintage you, Randall . And I already knew this 'bout you as well as that the energy behind the "bad" was not low in any way at all. But you see I just had to seize the opportunity to frown at you. Don't know if I'll ever have that opportunity again

I had half a mind to let you know I was being impish but then decided nah it would take away my fun from being able to frown at you.
